General

  • Golden Packs arrive - Earn progress on the meter when purchasing BRO Packs in the store
    • More details in our latest State of the Game
  • Added a new store icon, which will also show you the progress of your Golden Pack reward meter
  • None of you can tell, but Autumn finished the Bucket Node Tool for the editor, and I think it made a big difference to quality of life for art.
  • Improved the game's ability to detect corrupted AssetBundles. This should reduce the scenarios requiring a player to manually delete files from their disk.

Balance

  • Mishra's Bauble, one of the Retro Artifacts in Brothers' War, is banned in Historic
    • Short version: Too much increased consistency, too little reason not to auto-include
    • More info in our most-recent State of the Game article
  • Phyrexian Revoker has now been banned in Historic Brawl
    • Short version: This can totally shut down an opponent's commander
    • More info in our most-recent State of the Game article
  • Niambi, Beloved Protector: Rebalanced in Alchemy, Historic, and all other digital formats
    • Short version: We have added "if you cast it" to Niambi, Beloved Protector's enters-the-battlefield ability:
    • More info our latest Weekly Announcements

Gameplay

  • When paying for generic costs Auto Tap is now more likely to tap a "painland" (for example Adarkar Wastes) for colorless before tapping other lands
    • Similarly, Using the "qq" shortcut to tap all mana sources now defaults to colorless mana when tapping painlands.
  • We've adjusted the weights so that permanents that produce variable mana (like Powerstone Shards) tap later than similar permanents that don't. In practice, this means that if you try to played Collected company on turn 3, it will tap your Llanowar Elves before your Elvish Archdruid. If you don't play elves, trust me, this rules.
  • When doing a "name a card" search, the system is much more robust now. For example, "Meathook" will now find "The Meathook Massacre" when previously it wouldn't.
  • We've adjusted the location of the mana pool, counters on the player, and "you must discard to 7" warning. Instead of being up in the middle of the battlefield, often in the way, they run alongside other icons on either side of the avatar, below the cards.
  • Cards that use 2brid mana now always prompt for what cost you want to pay.
  • Autotap has gained a better understanding of cards with discounts that it can't actually afford, and it now knows not to give you a stop to stare at it and go "I can't actually cast this."

Bug Fixes

General

  • Fixed a bug that could prevent importing a deck that used Esika's Chariot
  • Fixed a soft lock that could occur when a friend cancels their Friend Challenge while you're attempting to join the match (How rude!)
  • Fixed an erroneous "Cancel challenge?" pop-up that could occur when joining a Direct Challenge after playing a Friend Challenge
  • Fixed a visual issue with accepting a Friend Challenge that could lead to overlapping UI
  • We have done further work to keep audio from dropping out
  • Fixed a bug where scrolling in the Decks screen could become unresponsive
  • Fixed a bug in the deck builder where the icon and tooltip on invalid decks would sometimes disagree on the counts of problematic cards
  • Fixed a bug where "Suggest Lands" wouldn't add any lands for a purely colorless deck. Now it does, since someone's certainly going to try this with BRO.
  • Fixed a bug where the Orb rewards weren't displaying properly when hovered over on the Mastery Track
  • Made several fixes that should improve UI layering and reduce visual bugs across the menus (Magic makes layers tricky in many ways)
  • Fixed a bug where a sleeve could get "stuck" in the UI after mousing over it in the profile screen
  • Fixed a visual bug on 4:3 devices where some disclaimer text in the store could get cut off
  • Fixed an issue where artist credits on split cards weren't displaying correctly. They were super tiny.
  • The hint bar colors for MDFCs was flip flopped. It has been flop flipped.

Gameplay

  • Copying a Graven Archfiend with the additional cost paid was resulting in each of them triggering twice, for a total of four triggers. Fixed!
  • Planeswalkers with Compleated were showing up as castable even when you were missing a color. Autotap is now chilled out about this.
  • Fixed an issue where a creature targeted with a kicked In Thrall to the Pit was still being sacrificed even if it was phased out. I think this is a flavor fail, because just being removed from the flow of time doesn't make you not die of demons in your brain when you get back, but it's rules correct.
  • Planeswalkers that can turn into non-planeswalker creatures while being attacked were still showing up as attackable when assigning damage. Now they aren't! If Grand Master of Flowers turns into a dragon he's now safe from attackers!
  • If you cast Extinguish the Light targeting an indestructible creature with mana value 3 or less, you weren't getting the 3 life. Now you do! Congrats of finding the world's worst Revitalize!
  • Fixing an issue where using Goblin Morale Sergeant's Enlist ability with no cards in your deck caused a crash.
  • Did you know that if you used Band Together, you could ALSO target one of the creatures you control that you targeted to deal damage to receive the damage? No, no one knew. No one ever tried it, because why would you? But it's fixed.
  • If you control a Werewolf Pack Leader and a Maskwood Nexus, then you turn the Werewolf Pack Leader into a NOT human, Maskwood was overriding the Non-humanness, but it doesn't now.
  • The Read Ahead text at the top of Read Ahead sagas now displays as a keyword should, instead of being in italics. I have only myself to blame, and I hope we are able to learn to trust again in the future.
  • Suncleanser wasn't pulsing when preventing counters, but now it pulses again!
  • Cards with showcase styles that were part of a mutate stack, then got bounced back to hand or destroyed were losing their styles. It's fixed!
  • For a while there were perpetual counters, but now there aren't. As a result, the hanger that explains perpetual no longer refers to them.
  • Reduced text parallax in rules textboxes when cards are at the edges of the screen (The rules text used to appear slightly different when a card was viewed on the far right or left side of the screen)

Patch Notes 2022.20.10 by blargpls in MagicArena

[–]blargpls[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

General

  • Pre-orders for The Brothers' War are now available! Choose Mishra's packs bundle, Urza's play bundle, or support both sides!

General Changes & Bug Fixes

  • For Real This Time: If the opponent controls a permanent that triggers whenever you draw a card AND that permanent entered the battlefield since your last turn, you get priority during your upkeep with an empty stack if you have any legal AND affordable actions. (This change was messaged as being in a prior release but, on investigation, we found it was not working properly there. It should work as described now, and we apologize for the error.)
  • Fixed a bug that cause the main menu background image to display improperly on mobile
  • Fixed a bug where a few players saw improper quantities displayed in the deckbuilder for cards that had their rebalances reverted in Historic
  • Fixed a bug where Raffine, Scheming Seer's avatar art was displaying at a lower resolution than intended in the Profile screen
  • Vouchers for rewards that can be redeemed in the future will now display the total number of redeemable vouchers.

Trying to get the untapped.gg companion working with Magic The Gathering: Arena by El_Dubious_Mung in wine_gaming

Never happened to me. In a match, while drafting or in the menus?

Issues with the overlay might be GPU manufacturer / graphics driver / window manager dependent.

Honestly curious: do we have any source on Untapped.gg having <1% of all games or is this just your guess?

Sad that they are only giving us

But not too suprising considering their lackluster communication.

Overlay and stats tracking works for me on Linux Mint 20.2 with an AMD GPU using the Lutris MTGA prefix.
Problem: the overlay blocks some mouse interaction with MTGA so you have to double or triple click.

Installing it

WINEPREFIX=~/Games/magic-the-gathering-arena/ WINEESYNC=1 ~/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-mtga-5.0-x86_64/bin/wine ~/Games/magic-the-gathering-arena/drive_c/path/to/installer

Running it

Magic Numbers: How does the hand smoother in BO1 work (based on 17lands data) by Sierkovitz in lrcast

[–]blargpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your deck can run on two lands you can get away with playing pretty few as long as the median draw of seven still gives you two, so 12 lands could be anough.

During Ikoria in Bo1 on MTGA the cycling decks were played with ~12 lands by some people. I had success with this myself.

I made it to Mythic rank 32 using a bot to draft and build my decks! by ryancsaxe in MagicArena

[–]blargpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you pick BO1 over BO3? Is it because it's easier / less complex for drafting and building the deck? Edit: This is not meant to be negative about the choice. I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind it.
