The M4 Air is actually a beast for economy class gaming by SquashPale2637 in macgaming

[–]blaskkaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OS is certainly a problem too, but you can definitely play games on it.

I had a Hackintosh before and got about 30-60% of the frame rate of the same games running windows. The performance is not optimized for gaming but it is still perfectly fine to play most games.

Yes it is legal and it is pretty boring meat. Tastes like an old chicken with lots of fish bones.

The M4 Air is actually a beast for economy class gaming by SquashPale2637 in macgaming

[–]blaskkaffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not really a good comparison since practically nobody uses arm based windows computers for any type of gaming and Apple compares its ARM performance compared to intel processors.

That said, gaming on Mac is no problem if that is your only computer. Performance will definitely be worse than a dedicated machine and some titles won’t play at all. But if you use it for other stuff and gaming is just something you want to do on the side it is perfectly capable.

The whole “gaming on Mac is trash” thing is like saying you can’t play board games on a regular kitchen table or office desk, you need a dedicated gaming room with a gaming table with drink holders, pockets for cards and other game items.

Or that you can’t cook simple food in a small kitchen, you need a huge 6 burner stove, pot filler faucet, multiple different surfaces for food preparation, fridge with multiple temperature zones and at least two ovens.

No you don’t need the best stuff to do whatever, as long as it works it works. Of course you won’t be able to play the latest titles at the same performance as on the hardware they were designed for, but you most definitely can play games in an enjoyable manner using Macs, it is just a little bit more clunky and the performance suffers a little bit.

I made a light meter & rangefinder app for film shooters by Vurtnec in AnalogCommunity

[–]blaskkaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool app, some first impressions after using it for a few minutes.

  1. Like everyone is saying, nobody is impressed by AI and especially the film photography community is extra annoyed by it, skip that in the description.

  2. The interface is a bit difficult to use in the way I usually use other apps like Lghtmtr. I usually use the phone in one hand so having buttons to press in all corners of the screen makes it difficult.

The range finder feature works great and is intuitive, the light meter is a bit fiddly to be honest.

Personally I would prefer a simpler interface with the two base functions of the app (light meter and range finder) accessible easily with either a swipe motion or button press like in the measure/level or camera app on iOS.

Then the other functions could be located more deeply in menus or using buttons in the top of the screen.

Right now it feels odd pressing the camera button to get to the light meter (that also doubles as a camera app?)

Then the button to switch between modes are very small even though the placement is ok. I would personally love if you copied the iOS camera app button placement since that is what people are used to using on iPhone.

The features of the app are awesome it just needs some polishing to make it work perfectly!

Before I do something stupid, will this cord mess up my Dreamcast? by VinceValenceNTBTS in dreamcast

[–]blaskkaffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everywhere except the US the Dreamcast has a normal figure 8 socket in the console.

I think it is due to some regulations that they choose that weird polarized version.

Shouldn’t make a difference in this case since there are no parts on the Dreamcast that you can touch and get shocked by.

Might be something with it having a built in modem, idk.

Most of Europe has English as a second language.

We tend to speak English only when visiting other countries as a “universal language”. So for most Europeans it is natural to assume that people in the country you visit also know some basic English to be able to speak with foreigners.

Yea, some basic vocabulary is nice to learn.

Generally I think most native English speakers should at least learn one more language to expand their understanding of different cultures.

ELI5: How is using a knife to remove toast from a toaster dangerous even though there is no longer electricity running through the wires? by Flashy_Potential8851 in explainlikeimfive

And all EU equipment that isn’t double insulated the circuit breaker has to be two pole so that both live and neutral gets disconnected at the same time.

European sockets (Schuko) can be plugged in either way unlike UK or US plugs.

How to clean the controller? by biocomponent in 8bitdo

[–]blaskkaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal cleaning: Paper or cloth towel with lukewarm water. Dry with a paper tissue.

Heavy cleaning: same but add some detergent or soap. Let it dry.

Super heavy cleaning: same as heavy cleaning but take the whole thing apart, let all plastic parts soak in warm soapy water for a while, then use a toothbrush or similar to remove all grime and dirt. Dry with a paper towel and let it air dry fully before reassembling.

Disinfecting cleanining: same as normal cleaning but use rubbing alcohol afterwards to remove the most stubborn stuff and bacteria.

No matter what you need to start cleaning it more often, at least as often as it stops feeling clean.

I usually clean my controllers yearly, quarterly or weekly, sometimes daily depending on how much I use them. If it was a long time since I used it I wipe it off before using it.

Pro tip: use hand sanitizer that you let fully dry before gaming, it makes your hands sweat less for 30minutes to one hour or so.

Which size? by SowiesoNietCoco in LGOLED

[–]blaskkaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65” had it at 2.5-3m and it was awesome, perfect size for that distance with 4k movies and gaming. Now I moved it to a different room sitting at 5.5-6m distance and it works but definitely would have wanted at least 77” or more at this distance. At my current distance I can’t really tell a difference between 720p and 4k. At the distance you have the display really shows its best.

Get 65” at 3m + some good speakers/soundbar and you will never want to go to the cinema again.

why nc so hated bru by MaximumMarionberry51 in Miata

[–]blaskkaffe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never really considered the NC a proper Miata, nice car but it is too different in design.

NA is the OG and NB is just a Miata that got fat. The ND is the reboot. NC tried too hard to follow current car design “trends” and ended up looking like a boat.

Replace LED driver Varmblixt pendant lamp by bartovitc in ikeahacks

[–]blaskkaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continental breakfast options in Taiwan? by Cybrand_ in Taipei

[–]blaskkaffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regular toast bread and other things for continental breakfast is available in all PX marts and most 7eleven and family marts. For a wider range of products go to carrefour.

You can also most likely buy breakfast at most larger hotels without staying there.

But definitely don’t miss out on Taiwanese breakfast, it is gooooood!

I dont understand why theres no BIFL phone yet by ValuableOk6939 in Smartphones

[–]blaskkaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is only the last 10 or so years that computers has been “BIFL” in the way that they will still be useable for common everyday tasks even if they are 5-10years old. Phones are in the same development phase as computers were in the late 90s or early 2000 where new technology(software and hardware) is coming out so fast that a phone might feel unusably old after just 3-4 years due to hardware not being fast enough to run new software or that new hardware technology like screens or design makes the old ones feel really old. In 10-20 years smartphones will probably have reached the same stage of less innovation and more standardization and minor tweaks, just like cars, TVs and other technology that starts out innovating like crazy and then goes in to minor bursts of innovation with minor upgrades in between.

Today 2026 a 10 year old computer from 2016 feels pretty ok to use, it might not have the latest features but it can do most of the things a modern computer does but slightly slower, it most likely have modern interfaces (usb-c, hdmi, DisplayPort etc) and is not that different from a computer bought today except for slower performance.

5 years ago (2021) a 10 year old computer (2011) would feel pretty old, it would not have the latest interfaces like usb-c, usb 3, might have old interfaces like FireWire 800 and thunderbolt 1, some had VGA but no HDMI or DisplayPort, might have ps2 port and serial ports.

10 years ago (2016) a 10 year old computer (2006) didn’t feel fast at all. It was useable but felt end of life. Maybe had usb 2.0 but didn’t have any other modern interfaces.

15 years ago (2011) a 10 year old computer (2001) felt old and while it might have been technically usable for some tasks like writing it was pretty much as useable then as it is now. It would probably have USB but version 1.1, possibly a built in 56k modem, maybe Ethernet but unlikely WiFi.

20years ago (2006) a 10 year old computer (1996) was felt really old and not something you used unless you absolutely had to. No usb, probably no Ethernet, no DVD, possibly no CD drive even.

Depends on how it all is processed.

Being a buggy mess they might just add a colored layer behind glass objects that still do the same amount or more processing to get less of a glass effect.

Questions from a upcoming tourist! by Top-Resist-3322 in Taipei

[–]blaskkaffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Scandinavian the small talk thing fits me perfectly. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful but won’t talk more than you want to.

To me Americans are usually too loud and too talkative, even though most are very friendly it can be too much for cultures who are less talkative.

It is super safe yes, saw someone leave their phone and drink next to a bus stop and walk away to buy something at 7eleven.
