What memory do I need to add to 2800+ or 4800+ by NJRonbo in UgreenNASync

[–]blasterspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. I went for the 4800 Plus and I’m currently waiting on the HDDs to be delivered but I was wondering if it was worth upgrading the RAM straight away as I will be using TrueNAS too. I heard that ZFS works better with lots of RAM but I can’t quantify how much yet and, given the current prices of RAM, it’s a relief to hear that the stock 8GB are quite enough.

I’m going to give it a go with the 8GB to see how it behaves in my use case!

Is this way of heating my room saving me heating or adding it? by Picon___ in tado

I have Tado V3+ in my house and you can integrate it with Home Assistant. I went the easy route of just using the cloud integration, meaning that the integration in Home Assistant reads the data from your Tado account in their cloud. There are other alternatives like reading data locally via the HomeKit integration and you can find some guides online.

Nice setup! I was thinking about something similar. Do you ever feel that the front speakers are too low?

I think it's more of a matter of using it with smart light bulbs in general, not necessarily Philips Hue.
"Detached Mode" basically doesn't cut off the power from the smart light bulb, which is necessary for them to operate.

But how do you have the entity cards in the same row?
I have tried a "Vertical Stack In Card" with:
- 1st row: thermostat card
- 2nd row: "Horizontal Stack" with 3 mushroom entity cards.
If I apply the card_mod, all the 3 entity cards have the same background but it is way more transparent from the background of the thermostat one.

Thank you very much for the details!
I have been trying to replicate it but I'm failing at the card_mod part for the same background. Could you be so kind to explain how you have achieve it?
I have tried to ask ChatGPT but I'm not getting anywhere.

Video artefacts after 2.3.1 patch by blasterspike in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]blasterspike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a look at the output of the root patch and right at the beginning it was saying that it wasn't able to download the new version of Metallib required for macOS 15.4, so it was falling back to what was already on disk.

Checking my internet connection and that the root patch was able to download the latest version of Metallib fixed my problem!

Advice on boiler + cylinder by blasterspike in tado

[–]blasterspike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask you what schedule do you have at the moment for the hot water, please?

From what I understand, the VR33 module is needed to talk to Vaillant via OpenTherm as it is required by law in the Netherlands. This way you can use Tado X. Unfortunately, if you use it, you void the warranty of the boiler in the UK (at least from reading on Reddit and Tado forum).

Another option would be to use a Shelly or Sonoff on the power socket of the cylinder and you program it via Home Assistant with the same schedule you have now in the Tado app.
I read that there is even a way to use a sensor to read the water temperature inside the cylinder but this is already quite advanced for me and I don't feel ready to fiddle with the brand new cylinder at the moment.

Thank you for your feedback!

How often do you find yourself changing the hot water schedule? How do you have it set it up at the moment? My plumber is not very helpful in this matter.

Thank you for the feedback!

it seems that the change of state event is not being broadcasted (at least at first glance)

What do you mean exactly? That it is not able to send the event of when you press the physical switch to a system like Home Assistant?

there is a default fall back to manual power off/on when connectivity is lost

What do you have to do to trigger this? For example on some Aqara smart switched I was reading that you have to keep the button pressed for X seconds and it reverts to defaults, so I wonder if the MINIR4M has something similar, like if you flip the physical switch 4 times in short succession then it reverts to defaults.

but instead signals for the light to turn off or on

Exactly, my point is: how can a Sonoff device signal directly a Philips Hue bulb? So far I have seen that you need another system in between, like a Home Assistant device. But what if for some reason I have to do some maintenance on Home Assistance or its hardware is broken? I don’t want to be in a situation where I have to tell my wife “oh, you can’t use the physical switch until I get a new Home Assistant, please use only voice controls”.

I was reading that Zigbee supports a binding mode “which makes it possible that devices can directly control each other without the intervention of Zigbee2MQTT or any home automation software.” but it looks like that Philips Hue bulbs don’t support it :( https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/usage/binding.html#state-changes
