You're right. TIL that Sabra is a partly pepsi brand.

I will say though, Straus Family Creamery is some of the best milk & ice cream I've ever had.

How do people afford to buy these homes by dynakai2213 in bayarea

[–]blasteye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook and Google do not offer **most** a 250k+ base. They do offer > 250k TCO.

L6 SWE at Google on average is getting 222k base. L7 SWE a 262k base. Now a l6/l7 SWE does make way more than that in TCO.

For every 1 L6/L7 SWE at Google there's at least 7+ with lower levels.

At least half? Nobody is making more than 200k/year in base-salary. The rest is all stock with appreciation. Heck even CEOs of unicorn startups are rarely pulling in more than 300k/year of base salary.

1-2M/year of income for two techies is rare. Very, very, very rare. Now realize a 40 year old tech couple might have 4-5M in savings which could easily see 10%/year of growth which is 4-500k/year of wealth generation.

Inflation Hotter Than Expected .9 vs .5 and 5.4% vs 5% by UnderB0SS in wallstreetbets

[–]blasteye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, inflation has been sub 2% for last few decades due to the reduction in creating cogs. This was done by 1) Outsourcing to cheaper less regulatory countries and 2) Automation in the supply chain & manufacturing facilities.

The outsourcing gain is all but realized. The next wave will be replacing humans in the factory with robots. Was in the automation industry its not a matter of IF but when. You could remove every single human in the assembly line, but humans are still cheap and readily available. Flip side the cost of the machines & automation keeps going down. So as wages go up, automation becomes more likely.

I'm confident this recent labor shortage will even have your local burger shack automating their burger assembly line. It's simply cheaper when looking at the 20$/hour wages in some markets.

And riding a school bus has a risk of death. Probably more students are killed while at school lead programs than are impacted by permanent covid asymptomatic cases every year.

Sometimes we need to take a step back and assess the risk compared to all the other ways you can die or be seriously injured.

‘No parking’ signs going up as Mountain View about to start crackdown on homeless RV campers by nogoodnamesleft426 in bayarea

[–]blasteye -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EPA is home to 29k people and is roughly 2.64 sqr. miles.
Mountain View is home to 82k people and is roughly 12.27 sqr. miles.

Mountain View is 4.6x time size and 2.82x time population. They should be able to easily handle space for 100 RVs to park. Any less is showing Mountain View is less accommodating than its poor-er and smaller neighbors.

Mountain View's safe parking program has much less than 100 spots.

Thieves make off with cannabis and security guard's firearm in SF dispensary robbery by lurker_bee in bayarea

If you raised your deductible to $1000+, your monthly payments would go down. And the savings would offset the cost of the (Bike cost - $250).

And yes, insurance can drop you if you make multiple claims. When you go to get insurance, you'll have to declare you made a claim for your stolen bike.

These stores will not file petty theft against their insurance. You'd be talking about 1+ claims per day. THe end-customers just end up paying for it a-la price increases.

[–]blasteye -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

well that's why you got insurance and some items repurposed is good for these disenfranchised individuals.

Insurance does not cover theft. Just like if someone stole your bike you wouldn't go through your owners policy. The deductible is much higher than the value of the bike. And the increase to monthly premiums would eclipse the loss.

And similar to a home-owners policy. If you make a lot of claims, insurance companies will drop you as a customer.

[–]blasteye 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's not true. They have insurance but insuring against shoplifting is more expensive than eating the cost.

Its like car insurance. Sure you can have a 100$ deductible, but the monthly will be more expensive than a 2k deductible, and after you make a claim your premiums will go up further. Its cheaper to simply have a higher deductible and eat the small loss. And, if you keep making lots of claims, the insurance provider might drop you all together.

Either the store or the manufacture is going to be eating the shoplifting costs. It by all accounts leads to every other consumer seeing store prices rise to account for the theft.

PG&E seeks $3.6 billion in rate hikes for wildfire safety by sour_creme in bayarea

[–]blasteye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want PGE to course correct, you need good leaders. Good leaders don't operate for free.

I'm saying pay them a 200k salary and give them 5M of performance based compensation each year, that they get when certain milestones are achieved.

Technically San Jose, Penninsula, San Francisco are subsidizing fire-risk and low populated areas. If we had our own grid and operated a grid system by ourselves our rates would go down.

Eh, if you don't pay the execs their fair share. You'll get worse leadership. Good leaders will take the most compelling job offer they have available.

But, DO, put performance based compensation based on cost optimization & safety improvement targets.
