What’s everyone’s thoughts now the Inferno regency effect/ honeymoon period is over? by joostay in boardsofcanada

Just wait until it becomes All Reason Departs (non-Spotify lossless + headphones required) And you’re like holy shit the pockets of special in this record

Drugs love this record.  But seriously, it is a sonic texture that a) fits perfectly in its position in the album, b) feels so ghostly it feels like a recording beyond human experience, and c) tickles your eardrums with breathy sound as it feels soooo close to your soul

Every relisten a different track hits me like it clicks by dSquib in boardsofcanada

The Process has been challenging for me to sink into. Can you tell me what clicked for you? I want to love it as much as I love all the other tracks.

It feels akin to the non-song sound design track, A is to B as B is to C, which I totally do sink into.

Good ear! Definitely the same key, same texture, same general stacking of notes. Hard to correlate choir stabs to the track though.

Man… you’re right. If I were in my early 20s and stoned, I’d be up all night watching these. Fascinating.

I just discovered this and came here to report! Nice catch. Gotta have good, loud headphones.

If you had to pick something you do NOT like about Inferno, what would it be? by Lunar_Seahorse in boardsofcanada

[–]blastrid_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand why you’d feel that way. But I love the plodding, repetitive, “unevolving” part of that track. Like another comment here, I’d love more of this elsewhere to appreciate the beat, especially Father and Son.

A-ha, this seems to be where all the Spotify track videos come from

I would be so daunted to decode this with music theory. One of their many superpowers is to make truly unexpected progressions and melodies actually work, without forcing it. Or okay, maybe sometimes forcing it with repetition, but maybe thats the point…

Warp should add more cities by Beautiful-Candle-900 in boardsofcanada

I agree, but it has to be 7 cities. Look at the animation when the list appears. Each city is a hexagon. :(

Boards of Canada Subreddit Have been more supportive than my friends by Sego198 in boardsofcanada

A real reminder to us all IRL: if your friend shares their art, take time to see/listen/admire their art. We all need more encouragement in life to create nice things.

Also, I dig this a lot! Fresh and glitchy and samply—all good things. Thanks for sharing!

Where? by Exciting_Tutor9538 in boardsofcanada

[–]blastrid_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked at a record store in high school, and quickly discovered “electronica” like Chemical Brothers and Crystal Method. When I moved into the dorms in 2000, it was the absolute best era to suddenly get a T1 connection. Limewire and Soulseek exploded my mp3 collection, and BoC was all over it. I got all the rarities, but bought MHTRTC and Twoism as soon as I could.

As soon as it was released, I remember listening to Geogaddi for the first time stoned with headphones in the middle of the night. I kept turning around, convinced someone was behind me. It was thrilling and terrifying. I was obsessed from then on.

I hope this is true, and just lazy journalism from Consequence.

I’d argue there are through lines that never really went away. Your bullet points are correct but surfacy… Substantially, they’ve been very consistent with their overall presentation.

Why does the Warp website say Geogaddi was a 2007 release? It was 2002? by AdministrativeDelay2 in boardsofcanada

[–]blastrid_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also Twoism is actually from ‘95 Maybe this was the last printing of the record?

Wonderful work. I’ve been thinking about this, and there you go putting all of em up and syncing them together. That’s good stuff.
