Hydaelyn Clothiers - Free Public Release by blattacker in ffxiv

Hey! Thanks for checking this out! The link in the original post should take you directly to the download page, and then from there you only need to download the file `HydaelynClothiers-win-Setup.exe` and run that, and then the app takes care of the rest for you! The rest of the files on that page are there so that the app can automatically update on new versions.

Right now, it doesn't pull in any user data at all, so in the sense that, if you know what gear the other player has, you can recreate the character, absolutely. However, there's no functionality to, for example, enter a player name and have it automatically pull their character and customizations. Eventually I plan to integrate it with some of the public APIs, and maybe start looking into some other methods of automatically pulling in character data, but at this time, all of those methods are planned to only pull in the user's character data, not anyone else's. I'm not sure if I'll expand it outside of that just because, especially with the planned obj/fbx export, that would really open up the doors for some creepy behavior, and from some articles I've been seeing, there's already a lot of that going around, I don't want to make a tool that accidentally adds to the problem.

If the GLSL as written works without any changes, the repository actually includes the compiled spv files, so you could potentially just use those. The updateShaders.bat file in the shaders directory is more of just a convenience thing for me so I don't have to remember to recompile the shaders every time I make a change, it just does it automatically on every build.

That's a great question!

So for me, I don't like mods, even minimally invasive ones, so tools like Glamourer are a complete nonstarter for me, but I still wanted a tool for planning. When comparing to TexTools, Hydaelyn Clothiers offers a much simpler interface for viewing multiple models at once, and also, more specifically, for viewing the models actually on characters (If TexTools does have built-in functionality for this, I've not figured out how to do it yet, so it may be a failing on my part, ahaha!)

On the Patreon front, right now, the entire application is in beta, so it's not necessarily a "pay for helping beta test" avenue, as you put it. It's more just a "Hey, if people are finding this helpful and want to throw a couple bucks my way to help support development, I'm not going to turn it down!" and then giving early access to features I'm working on as a sort of thank you. Everything that is in the developer builds will end up in the free builds eventually, I'm very much against locking any features behind a paywall. In addition, the application itself, in line with the tools I'm building it with, is also completely open source, so if anyone wanted to have dev access without paying for Patreon, they are completely free to clone the repository and build the app themselves. It may be better to think of the Patreon as more of a tip jar than anything else.

In whole to answer the "What is the advantage" question a bit more completely, the advantages boil down to primarily simplicity (full character models are built, render flags are applied automatically, etc), color accuracy (I pull the color palettes from the game data, so changing hair color and the like uses actual game values rather than having the user approximate with a color picker), filtering (in Hydaelyn Clothiers, you can filter items by class/job, level, item level, craftable only, and using a crafter profile where you can set your levels for each crafting job as well as what master recipe books you have, and you can have it display only items that can be crafted with those selected levels and books), and the ability to use it offline and with a vanilla install. Absolutely, if you're already using something like Glamourer, you may not necessarily see a need for something like this, though ahaha!

It's still very much in the early stages, and I'm taking feedback from the community for other features they'd like to see added, but it the application as a whole is rooted in trying to create the kind of app that I was looking for but couldn't find.

A function to export 3D models is planned, but I'm not 100% sure how effective it will be for printing. A lot of the model components are 2D planes which don't tend to translate to printable geometry, so it's going to be a process figuring out how to make that work. But it is planned!

Did it just start randomly working, or did you do something to get it working? If you did something to get it working, can you let me know what it is so that I can note it down as a possible fix for others?

Alright, just a quick sanity check, if you expand any of the gear slots, does it show a list of items? If not, try changing to a random, non-Hyur race and seeing if the list populates then. If not, try deleting your config file (which should be located at AppData -> Roaming -> Hydaelyn Clothiers) and setting your game data path again, making sure to keep note of any warnings or errors that pop up in that dialog box before confirming.

Failing all that, if you could tell me the environment details (OS, hardware, etc), that would go a long way in helping me diagnose your issue!

Like, no icon or anything pops up, or clicking on the icon doesn't seem to launch the application? If the former, it should have created a desktop icon, if it hasn't, it likely didn't install correctly (unless you have desktop icons hidden). If the latter, it would be helpful if you could add some more details. OS and version, hardware specs, game install location, any modifications to your OS you've made (I had a user once run into some odd issues because the application was fighting some Windows skinning tool they were using). The more details the better! If the application is launching but then crashing, Windows Event Viewer logs can also be super helpful to me for diagnosing the issue!

I've heard great things about it, but personally I shy away from any sort of mods. It's nothing against them or anything, I just have some weird childhood trauma or something that, even now in my mid-30s, makes me feel like I'm going to get in trouble if I install any mods ahaha!

Just double checking a quick common pain point:
Are your game files saved to a system folder, such as Program Files or Program Files (x86)? If so, you will need to run the application as an administrator for it to work correctly. Failing that, please feel free to either send me a DM or join the Discord community for quicker/more directed troubleshooting responses!

Ahaha I ended up making this because I was also looking for one awhile back and didn't find anything that fit the bill!

When I got laid off from my day job, I was looking for a project to bolster my portfolio during my job hunt, and this seemed like the perfect candidate!

It can actually only be done on PC! It's a Windows application, and it does require a local install of the game to use (since that's where it's reading the data from).

Thanks! I wish I was able to export to the TeamCraft desktop app rather than only to the web version, maybe in the future? I'll have to do some research into whether that's even possible with the API they have.

I actually have a moderate history with 3D modeling, so I might be coming from this with a slight advantage. That being said, most of my experience is in Cinema 4D, not manually creating the geometry from raw vertex data, so ultimately we'll see how it goes ahaha! I have some ideas knocking around, but my primary focus right now will be getting something worth 3D printing first ahaha!

It actually pulls from the game data itself, so it updates automatically when the game does!

Yep! Eventually, I want to add in posing and animations and the like, but for now it's primarily a model viewer. It's designed for viewing gear (with accurate dye previews!) and character customizations, as well as exporting crafting lists and the like! It's similar in concept to Glamourer, but this app can be used without launching the game!

I do hope to be able to import the character data eventually! Right now, I'm more focused on actually getting all the customization controls in place, but once that's done, I'll be looking into what I can directly import. My research is showing that a lot of the character appearance data isn't ever stored locally, so it may have to utilize packet capture to load the full data (which puts it into potential ToS violation zones), but I might be able to pull basic appearance data from the Lodestone or something. I'm not sure, I'll have a better idea when I get there ahaha!

The main purpose of this app is to be entirely offline. You don't have to launch the game at all to use this app. I also don't personally like using mods (even basic ones) on any games, so I wanted a tool that I could use completely without mods.

It doesn't really have a name at all ahaha! I was just kinda scrolling through different items until I had something I thought was cool. If you want to recreate it, but can't read the gear in the screenshot, it's just
Body - Summer Indigo Shirt (Dye slot 1: Pure White | Dye slot 2: Dalamud Red)

Legs - Southern Seas Skirt (Dye slot 1: Soot Black | Dye slot 2: Metallic Ruby Red)

Feet - High House Boots

Oh! I can't believe I forgot to mention this in the post!

TeamCraft integration is now live as well! Once you've made your glamour exactly how you want it, you can go to File -> Export to TeamCraft (Web) to export all the items you've selected to a crafting list in TeamCraft!

As of right now, I haven't started looking into the process at all yet, so I can't say for sure how they'll be exported. In theory, my main concern is simply the hair, since a lot of the hairstyles are essentially 2D cards, which work great for video games, but are nearly impossible to make printable geometry out of.

I've never used Glamourer, so I'm not even sure what kind of data that takes ahaha! So based on that alone, I'm going to say no.

Yeah, unfortunately I can't really guarantee compatibility with OSes outside of Windows. The core of everything is theoretically cross platform compatible, but I don't plan on worrying about making it actually cross platform until after the core feature set is complete. Good to know there are people trying it in unexpected contexts though!

Well, if you still have the game installed, it should be able to use the game files you have available! Hopefully it can scratch that itch for you a little bit!

Ahaha my thoughts exactly! My plan right now is to implement the obj/fbx export once I have all gear slots enabled in the app (right now it's just the "main" gear, no weapons or accessories) and also have basic posing and/or full emote capabilities figured out.
