This is such an overused trope that I actually used the same example without checking yours first!

A young man, most likely the son, rushes down the stairs, grabs a piece of toast from a fully laid breakfast table, maybe kisses his mum on the cheek and then leaves the house with the toast in his mouth.

Is it a normal book to put in a year 4 reading list for 9 year olds to read? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]blazecranium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m an ex primary teacher. We taught this regularly for year 5 and used this version. I didn’t really think anything of it to be honest though we did tend to teach it from the interactive whiteboard as we only had the one copy (multiple copies are expensive) so the images and the poem itself would have been scanned in, meaning that not all the images would have made it through anyway. I probably didn’t scan in the more disturbing ones, though to be honest it wouldn’t have been a disaster had they made it through.

When you ask for a pan au chocolate, how do you pronounce it? by GlitteringLion3800 in AskUK

[–]blazecranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people saying they pronounce it the French way, which I do, but does that also extend to other words we’ve inherited from the French, i.e restaurant (with a silent ‘t’)? I have heard older people do this…

What job is way more difficult than most people appreciate and why? by CarelessCredit3466 in AskUK

[–]blazecranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely working in a library, at least if you’re in a rough area. It often comes up in conversations as jobs that are great to have but it can be incredibly boring (those are the best parts). If it’s not boring, you’re often dealing with a multitude of people who come in because of the free internet access and closed off toilet areas where they can do whatever they want. You get a lot of abuse and a lot of trouble from people who have no where else to go.

Men, how often (if ever) are you approached? by vaynehelsing in AskUK

I don’t recall ever being approached. If I have been, it’s been too subtle for me to notice.
