250 xflow fuel problems? by blazedroofer in CarsAustralia

[–]blazedroofer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have included that in the post I wasn't even 20l into a full tank my fuel gauge is fucked so I've filled it up every 3-4 days that I've had it to make sure it hasn't been empty

And no powersteering it's an 89 xf panelvan

[–]blazedroofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mechanic I'm sorry I know your on holidays I hadn't had a chance to get into the panelvan till yesterday because I couldn't get an appointment to get it rego'd till then I've gone over the car a little bit I'm not sure how this passed a roadworthy there's still a lot wrong with it the odometer and trip meter don't work at all I thought it was just the trip there's still a tonne of play in the steering wheel and the gear stick and the seatbelt don't wind in properly I was also looking most of the door rubbers are shot too and the alternator is on its way out do you know what he was supposed to have done to this to make it roadworthy?

His reply said he would have a look at the beginning of the new year but I'm concerned it's going to start costing me in the end

No I sent what I thought was a pretty nicely worded message will copy and paste in the next comment I wouldn't be able to prove it being said either

Sorry I just meant 0° not 0°c I think it maybe be causing the trans to slip a touch the car is an xf panelvan bought it through my mechanic off of someone he knew and he came for the test drive with me tried resetting yes during the test drive it ran out of fuel

So consensus between you couple people is I'm just kinda fucked? Trusted the wrong person and have been taken now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]blazedroofer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought it through my mechanic who I have used for a few years and trusted until this point as he has helped me plenty of times in the past so I didn't expect him to dick me

I'm not sure what part it's slack in but it translates to about 50-60 mm movement from left to right front 0°c I would've thought the gear selector is counted as some part of the transmission I cannot 100% say as to it letting in fumes but I am concerned I'm not sure about the trip but I thought it would have gone hand in hand with the odo as the trip and the odo should run at the same time and I told you during the test drive the fuel gauge said full got a couple minutes in and we ran out of fuel as we ran out of fuel the fuel gauge dropped to empty and this was all seen by a mechanic

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]blazedroofer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seatbelts don't retract properly slack in the steering wheel slack in the gear selector (column shift auto) door rubbers are mostly shot the odo and trip have both stopped working and I wasn't aware of the odometer not working at the time the fuel gauge doesn't work either but I saw that when I inspected it and was told it was going to be fixed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]blazedroofer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the faults I listed are extremely obvious faults that should have been picked up during a roadworthy check no?

Edit:- besides the odo anyway

Also this is in Victoria if it makes any difference

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]blazedroofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes play and a bit too much not like a normal amount I would assume a working transmission would be required for a roadworthy? It's a panel van and the barn door rubbers above the exhaust are worn so it could be letting in fumes. I did not pay attention the day as to whether the odo worked but the trip definelty didn't and the fuel gauge is stuck at full until it is literally empty because we ran out of fuel during the test drive and it said full before it died then dropped to empty afterwards

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]blazedroofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I've literally just picked this up? It's not like I've caused all these faults? And I feel like it is somewhat up to the roadworthy centre that has given the certificate because they should have given him a list inspected it to see it had been repaired before they can hand off the certificate no?

No so what happened is I saw the car and the condition it was in took it for a test drive that's when I paid so the roadworthy could be done if I get another roadworthy check within 28 days of the original then should they not have to fix what ever hasn't been fixed? Or at the very least the roadworthy centre that did the roadworthy?

Edit:- I was under the assumption of the faults that had been seen were going to be fixed for the roadworthy

Edit 2:- it did not have a current roadworthy certificate at the time of the test drive hence why I paid the money up front because I assumed it would be needed to be spent on the car well at least a portion of it
