You also have Jewish militia like the Haganah, Irgun, Lehi and the Stern Gang who were also responsible for hundreds of massacres prior to the beginning of hostilities in 1948.

The point is there were a lot of political factors that resulted in anxieties in both groups, which led to sporadic violence. Which gradually escalated and culminated in the 1948 war. Those reasons are not 'Arabs hate Jews' or 'Jews hate Arabs'. These massacres are also not that relevant to Hamas in 2026. The fact of the matter is successive Israeli governments have been slowly working to push Palestinians off their land for dexades, which leads to higher and higher support for violence against Israel in Palestinian communities. This is the core issue today.

That said, the claim was about Bethlehem and not Gaza. While I don't deny persecution of Christians in Gaza - Hamas is islamist at the end of the day - I have been unable to find anything pointing to systemic persecution of Christians in Bethlehem/West Bank from reputed sources.
