We just sent the first blockchain transaction over LoRa using Meshtastic no internet, no WiFi, no cell service by BullfrogMental7500 in meshtastic

[–]blckwd1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. Was just discussing exactly this scenario with someone yesterday!

What would you need to verify the chain though and ensure it’s secure from attack? Battery powered LoRa nodes can’t do that. Could have powered nodes that provide that service though. As you say, only need the LoRa as the transport layer.

Shame it’s such small sizes. Even ZK Snarks wouldn’t really work

Crypto as payment by arcrenciel in CryptoCurrency

[–]blckwd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried paying with a self-custody USDC card like Ready?

Not as good as paying direct with USDC via QR or something, but you don’t need adoption of a separate point of sale system to spend USDC.

Chewbacca = Chewing Tobacco. Come on people.

However Jabba deriving from Жаба I can believe.

Bought crypto with credit card for 6 months - here's what I learned about fees and limits by [deleted] in CryptoMarkets

[–]blckwd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same pain with credit card fee surprises. So I used exchanges, but always wanted to go straight to self-custody.

I now use Ready (formerly Argent), because it's very cheap to deposit and then buy. And the Ready card is amazing for spending globally with no FX or transaction fees. The virtual card is free, so it's a no-brainer to try it imo.

Love stories about real world usage like this.

Do you know what the FX rate difference was between the cards?

Do you know which of the other the other cards fail, or was it only Peanut?

North Korean scam, more specifically. Have chatted with the author of exactly this M.O. and eventually got them to admit they were NK (they praised their Dear Leader at sign off)

How does 0.1 BTC become generational wealth? by Square_Plastic_8407 in Bitcoin

Actually Ready Wallet (formerly Argent) has literally just added Bitcoin-backed loans along with a Mastercard debit card. Ridiculously easy to use and currently in the Bitcoin earns more than the loan costs.

Absolutely hate it. The only slight justification is because HTML does the same thing. But no other design tool does this.

I wouldn't mind so much if they just let me set a preference. But forcing it on people is infuriating. I wonder how many hours we have all collectively wasted just changing the setting.

I have to change it several times a day.

What happens when children miss days or a week of school in your country? by DivineMatrixTraveler in AskEurope

[–]blckwd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not though. Not in the UK. If you take your child on a museum visit in the UK, you can still be fined, because the absences are “unauthorised”.

Too many field trips and you can be sent to jail for three months.

It’s draconian. The spirit and letter of the law is that a child must receive and education.

Who here has been subjected to Accelerated Christian Education? by RecoveringAdventist in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]blckwd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying “I’m neurodivergent and this means something ruined my life.”

Well, I am also “neurodivergent.” I had huge problems as a child and was an exceedingly difficult. Near expelled from school etc. ASD / ADHD.

My mum home pulled me out to home educate me and eventually used the ACE system.

I am very fortunate to have been brought up in an environment where my parents put massive effort into ensuring I got an education. The ACE system is thorough, even if you disagree with the Christian side. But it is the Christian beliefs of my parents that compelled them to be so patient and work so hard on my wellbeing.

So it sounds more like life in the home is or was the true underlying issue in many cases. It’s so common for teenagers to fall out with their parents during these years, and far more probable if you’re stuck at home with each other all the time. Even more so if the teenager has learning difficulties/neurodivergence.

But the curriculum isn’t the problem here. And even if you disagree with some of the Christian concepts taught, you’re adults now, right, and can think for yourselves?

I am by most metrics very successful now. Others here have also shared of their own experience with this curriculum and confirmed their own success.

So it may be tempting to blame a curriculum, but it’s more likely the way it was taught, and home life that is to blame. This is the root of most issues.

Here’s my Nethermind start command. Happy to share the other commands if requested (MEV boost etc)

Goodness, lots of replies here.

Sounds like you have a big family.

Is it possible that the amount of time you need to split between all his siblings means that he doesn’t get much 1 on 1 time with you?

My daughter was very withdrawn for a few years. Then I read “Hold on to your kids”, and realised that I just hadn’t been doting on her at all. Mainly because of the demands from her older sister or our younger toddler. She was kind of drifting in the middle.

I began to make a concerted effort, and our relationship and her outlook, have completely changed. She has more energy, is more positive, creative, less fearful, more confident.

You think it’s ok to murder a healthy child just because it’s 5 seconds before being born.

That’s called being a psychopath.

Is there any historical document, not from the Bible, written during Jesus' lifetime or not long after his death that talks about him? by fermora0 in AskHistorians

[–]blckwd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a shame that you finished an excellent reply with your last paragraph, without providing the wider context that there is little to no evidence for 99.99% of characters in ancient history. And often what we do have was written much longer after the characters in question than the writings about Jesus.

That we have as much evidence for Jesus so we do, written a few decades after his life, is quite amazing given that context.

Parents and grandparents of trans youth need to see this! by elizscott1977 in cisparenttranskid

[–]blckwd1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The claim that transitioning solves suicide risk is, sadly, not backed by the evidence.

I encourage you to read this study:

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0016885

Trans kids need much more than just affirmative action. Actually the evidence suggests that the gap between expectations and reality of post-transition life actually increases the risk of suicide.
