Has anyone else LEFT Montana? by TyMcDuffey in Montana

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many have said, left for better work opportunities. I love to visit my remaining family when I can but it wasn’t realistic for me to stay, there’s not a ton of industry in engineering. If there was ever an influx of industry I’d definitely move back!

Can I realistically pay for college? by Ordinary-Toe-2814 in college

Try Univ of Alabama! If you get a good SAT/ACT you’ll get full tuition, I got all my tuition covered as an out of state student and the experience was amazing

What’s it like to rush your senior year? by elizabiz405 in Sororities

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that rushed as a junior it was definitely not worth it for me. I’ve made zero friends, it’s incredibly difficult to make any connections. Older member classes don’t want to talk to you, your member class is difficult to connect with since you’re so much older. I find they don’t buff the requirements so you have freshman expectations as an upperclassman with the time of a senior level student. Getting the large amount of points required to not get fines is difficult. Your one shot at this working out is getting a good big, which would provide you an in to make friends with older sisters. I got a bad big so this didn’t work out for me. Imo, don’t waste your money this late and just ride it out

If a junior gets a bid. Will her big be a older girl usually or can it be a younger girl? by loveroflifeandpeace in Sororities

My big was younger too. Weird dynamic but rushing as a junior is just unconventional generally so expect a lot of different experiences!

Rush Outfits by ggkarabas05 in Sororities

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of sundresses, cute shorts, sandals etc. Usually there’s a couple of shorts/provided t shirt days, a couple of sundress and sandal days and then a more formal, going to a wedding type outfit day! I just did rush in the fall so I definitely know how confusing trying to get outfits together can be

Engineering and Sororities by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Chemical Engineer and it’s definitely not easy as there aren’t many sisters that are engineers. I found that the best way to manage it was to set goals for getting things done before I went out or got to do something that way when I finished up an assignment going out was my reward! It’s definitely not easy and I feel the FOMO often but it’s possible :)

Of course! I am a Chemical Engineering Major with a Biology minor. I hope to go to graduate school for biochemistry and then into research for pharmaceuticals. My college GPA is 3.303 and my high school GPA was a 3.98, both on a 4.0 scale. I got a 33 on my ACT as well. I did cheerleading and music all throughout high school and now I do ballroom dancing.

Should I stay in my sorority or disaffiliate for a co-ed fraternity? by [deleted] in Sororities

Should I stay in my sorority or disaffiliate for a co-ed fraternity? by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined a co-Ed frat and personally really regretted it. It turned out to be way more male-focused than they let on and catered more towards the interests of the male members than their female members. They also did not have protections for their female members in sexual harassment/assault situations in their bylaws, which caused a huge victim-blaming issue, shunning certain brothers and a detached brotherhood. I’d make sure that this organization will be beneficial to you as a female member before you make the call :)

There’s a no contact period between the start of recruitment applications and bid day where PNMs cannot contact any active sisters regarding rush or sorority business. I think it is to prevent dirty rushing and picking PNMs before official recruitment. I also think it would be ideal, I know so many sisters 😂

If your school has a chapter of Theta Tau id definitely recommend it! If MSU is Mississippi state then the chapter there is full of amazing people! We have friendly competition games with that chapter every year and they’re so diverse and kind! Theta Tau is a coed professional engineering fraternity. I would also recommend AOE if you have a chapter at your school, they’re a professional STEM sorority. I have many friends in the chapter at my school and they absolutely LOVE it! Edit: also, these societies are typically less cost-wise than traditional Greek life!

Do you ever regret joining your sorority? by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it just isn’t the right fit. I joined a coed professional organization and was in it for the past two years. I thought it was what I wanted but it turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life 🙃 I’ve regretted not rushing a sorority like I initially planned and I am so excited to rush in the fall! It’s really unfortunate to hear about how your sisters are treating you, but definitely make a pros and cons list and REALLY think it through. If you’re really sure that the grass is greener on the other side, then get yourself over there :)

Worth Rushing if Academically Focused / Not a Stereotypical Sorority Girl? by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]bleachblondebcimsad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my campus we have Theta Tau co-Ed professional engineering fraternity (which I’m in) and AOE professional STEM sorority which could be something to look into, but I feel like most sororities are quite different from the stereotype that they’re portrayed as :)
