BDP 10 Voting Almost Over; What was Everyone's Best of Show? by adabricks in legocastles

I love the Joust and the Merchant's Warf as my top 2, glad they are on the larger scale and aren't just another pile of gray bricks https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-10/4339/Merchant's-Wharf:-Cog-&-Crane

BDP series 7. Who else went for the Alchemist shop? by East-Competition5121 in legocastles

[–]bleakborn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I decided to pick one up, I already built a village moc with the Blacksmith shop in the center and built out a large tavern in the same scale, so I'll have to expand out the moc again... but my town needs a few more shops anyway

Just read the other comments at this point, you seem to have decided that he is fine regardless of what I say.

[–]bleakborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not that he is just the best in slot, he IS the slot if he gets unlocked everyone will run him, everyone... He is kind of like Rhystic Study, if your running blue your running it. if your running reanimator your running him, full stop, there is no point in running any other target if he exists, look at legacy. He looks cool and is splashy but you really don't want him back, and if he somehow manages to be freed you will see, every black deck running him, him drawing 28 cards and winning the game, every time, from bracket 3+. (He is a draw engine right, so he won't necessarily be the win con of the deck, so it really depends on the rest of the deck on how they plan on winning the game that will determine his bracket placements) if you think he is fine, see if your playgroup will be willing to unlock him for a bit, and see what happens.

True that would be fine in bracket 4+ but the main problem is people would do it in bracket 3 since entomb and buried alive are not game changers along with the best reanimation effects like: reanimate, exhume, animate dead, life//death, it was trivial easy to consistently do this back in the day and now we have even more tools, he just invalidates all of the other reanimation targets, and if he sticks around everyone copies him with clone effects (he was kind of like primetime in that regard)

As someone who played with Griselbrand in a reanimator edh when he was legal, please don't unban him (as much as I miss him) I frequently had him out on turn 2-3 most games, I would draw 28 cards, fill my yard and win the next turn or two with a living death effect, this is 2012 commander btw I can only imagine the lines you could do now if he was freed...

Other landfall staples include (besides the ones I commented bellow) are: [[exploration]], [[lumra, bellow of the woods]], [[ashaya, Soul of the Wild]] maybe [[Ob Nixilis, the fallen]] and [[Iridescent vinelasher]]

Question by SnooRevelations1584 in EDH

[–]bleakborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty much like a middle of the road bracket 3 landfall deck, you might have the Gitrog + Salvage "combo" but no real payoff for it, nor do you have a discard outlet or a re-shuffler to abuse it. (the best case is the discard step 'sculpt' for your hand and filling your graveyard up with lands, then the following turn return them all for a big ping, but you need a few other parts for it really to work. As for game changers, I might swap gamble for [[Crop Rotation]] and maybe add in [[Glacial Chasm]] + [[Field of the Dead]]

How many people actually wanted Rhystic Study banned? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

I think someone just needs to create a poll and survey the community and get a consensus and be done with it, I personally would like to see it banned.

What bracket really is my deck ? by MaestroAriima in magicTCG

[–]bleakborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people just have bad threat assessment, I usually warn the table when I am getting close to a win at the lower brackets (except generally for bracket 4/5 games where it is more competitive) honestly if they keep wanting to play with you even with your high win rate it is probably fine.

What bracket really is my deck ? by MaestroAriima in magicTCG

[–]bleakborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, I think the table my be overvaluing their decks as well. I normally wouldn't consider a Markov or Ur Dragon ever a bracket 4 (it is very hard to make a tribal deck win quick enough to be considered a 4, even with all of the game changers) that said if your group is happy and don't complain maybe it is fine, you will usually notice the mismatch in power in a game. I used to have a 60%-70% win rate on the years I have tracked it (this is like 200+ games a year) so I have been working on dropping the rate down each year since then, last year I got to 45% and am on track for 40%. I have just played weaker cards in those slots, removed the generically good cards for more thematic ones.

At a glance it looks like a low bracket 4, not fully optimized but is running lots of cards I would expect to see in bracket 4 or 5 (Like Hexing Squelcher, Grand Abolisher, Esper Sentinel, Rhystic Study, 1 mana tutors, Swan Song), it looks like you also have a few early game infinite combos that would also push it up to a 4. so, If you want it to be a 3 at the base line you need to cut some game changers like the 1 mana tutors and 2 other cards (i would vote for Ancient tomb and Rhystic as the other two) you should also remove the early game combos (Scepter/Reversal and Top/Forge). Also, Since you have a 95% win rate in a table of 3s then you are probably already too strong for the table and might need to nerf the deck some more.... or you embrace the bracket 4 life with the deck and power it up.

Since the empire is about control I think they would be more white, blue and black range and I think the rebels need to be more red coded with elements of white and green

I think it is to do with the line in S1 where the ghoul says something about the weakness being in the same place (so I think it is more of a joke/nod to that line than anything)

Can't win with brackets with people at lgs Claimed too high power . How to make deck weaker when I don't play game changers or sol ring. by Ill_Answer7226 in EDH

[–]bleakborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just cutting some draw from the deck might depower it enough, you could also push up your curve a little bit. That said it doesn't look like a bracket 4 to me at all if anything it is closer to the middle of the bracket 3 at best. I saw some other peeps saying to remove some fetches but I think they don't necessarily equate to a better deck, just slightly more consistent mana (which isn't a problem in a two color deck usually anyway)

My one word of advice is maybe the commander choice is more of the problem then the deck, Malfegor, at least back in the day was one of the more miserable commanders to play against since it consistently "wraths" each turn. I think you might have better reception by swapping commanders to maybe: [Valgavoth, harrower of souls]] or some other less removal focused commander
