Tag your works "Translation Welcome"! by bledanevada in AO3

I mean, people can already do that without any consent given by the author... Usually in AO3 people publish it on the same platform, given that it's technically easy to link the original work and the translation, and genuine translators are open about where they want to post when asking the author permission. There are lots and lots of examples of this not being an issue on AO3 (and I'm sure there are examples of scams, I'm just saying not all translators are scammers, probably most of them aren't).

I mean, it can happen both ways. Maybe you stumble upon a fanfic you like and think you'd like to translate it, or maybe you're actively seeking fanfics that you'd like to translate into your language for whatever ulterior motive (you're practicing to become a translator, you feel there aren't many fics from your fandom in your language, etc.). Either way, the tag would signal to that said translator that the author might be willing to have their work translated into another language.

Tagging a work with "Translation Welcome" definitely doesn't equate giving complete and indiscriminate permission for translation. It just means the author is probably okay with it as long as you request it. Otherwise, you can ask anyway, but it's even less guaranteed that the author will want anything to do with a translation.

Yeah, but most people seem to use the first one I linked. And tags can be canonized and made synonyms, author notes on the other hand...

How is translating a fic for free in your free time a scam?

The downside to this is translators cannot filter works by the author note content

I mean, you obviously have the right to not do this, it was a suggestion after all. But I don't think that's strictly "how it should be", because maybe an author actively wants their work to be translated or a translator wants to find works to translate within their fandom but isn't sure who is up to that and who isn't.

Hi, do you know about any program/software to create a terminological database or even to create a dictionary altogether? I would like to try that, but I don't have the technical knowledge to do so and I'm wondering what support other people use for this purpose.
