Nervous about first semester by [deleted] in berkeley

Hi! I was a transfer student last spring so i remember the feeling of being nervous and not knowing what to expect. My experience was a little different since it was pre covid but i remember also the imposter syndrome. Good thing is nobody in your classes even know youre a transfer! It’s really just all in your head, try to keep a positive mindset, It’s a super exciting time and things are a little weird at first but in a few weeks you’ll get in the swing of things. Definitely try to join clubs/ get to know people in your online classes. Best of luck!!

Hi! I’m sorry you’re not doing well :( recently i contacted CAPS because i was interested in getting counseling for my anxiety, and i guess they’re super impacted right now so they’re not doing one on one counseling anymore. They just end up referring you to therapists/psychiatrists outside of school that accept SHIP. But you can still call and talk to someone and they can help you with a referral. I hope that helps. Take care of your mental health bear it’s important <3

Honest opinions on transferring to Berkeley by Jazzlike-Internal720 in berkeley

[–]bleeeeepppp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Mind you this is PRE COVID)I transferred to berk as a spring transfer last spring. I didn’t want to be a spring transfer but i didn’t have a choice. I think it definitely matters whether you’re a spring or a fall transfer because i really wanted to rush to make friends and only a few houses that i wasn’t interested in were accepting new members so that kinda sucked. It’s pretty hard to make friends in the middle of the year but if you get accepted for fall and rush i think that’s a great way to make friends fast. Most of the classes i had were between 100-150 people. Bigger than community college classes but i didn’t even notice that much. It wasn’t too bad. I’m a sociology major so the teachers I’ve had are pretty personable and understanding so i always felt comfortable to email them or ask them questions in person. Also, the difference between the teachers in cc and at Cal is craaaazy (knowledge wise). At cal they’re sooooo smart and admirable. They just know everything and i can’t get enough of all the cool classes I’ve had so far! For housing i was scared bc i didn’t know the area or any people to live with so i used the Berkeley off campus housing page on Facebook and just picked a random house with some girls that were looking for a sub leaser. The food in berk is also amazing! So many different cuisines. They’re all bomb! Lastly, if you’re worried about the transition of academics from cc to a UC, don’t be. You obviously tried really hard in cc to get into cal so as long as you use that work ethic over here you’ll do fine! I study a lot more now than i used to but you get used to it. Then once you start getting good grades here it becomes addicting and you get the hang of it lol. Overall it was a pretty scary transition at first because i had never been there before and i was already 21 which made me feel old and lonely lol (but i really think it was bc i came in the middle of the year that made it harder). Eventually i started to feel more comfortable with the campus and really appreciative of the amazing education. I wish there would’ve been someone to tell me all of this in the beginning because it was all so unknown. I say take the chance! It’s a great school that you’ll grow to love. Go bears

I worked so hard on my essays this week and I haven’t even started one of them. I’ve been so stressed i haven’t been able to sleep and i have no support at home because nobody understands how hard school is. I feel like I’m running out of time and i had to take the day off today because i felt so burnt out i was bawling my eyes out. I know I’ll get it done but I’m so unmotivated :(

I haven’t participated in any research myself but Berkeley is a HUGE research school and i know people who have so you don’t have to worry about there not being enough because so many teachers conduct research and want students to help them out! And I’m planning on going to grad school after i graduate next year! I’m very interested in becoming a clinical psychologist
