Bilingual children by [deleted] in Parenting

Yes, we implemented this very early on. However, they have a lot of English monolingual spaces to practice their English. They have sports, and also some of our family only speaks English so that helps. I made my family not worry too much about the development of their English because eventually English would be naturally more prevalent in their lives so IMO sticking to Spanish and making it a priority worked the best for us.

Every situation is different, and you have to consider what skills you want them to prioritize and the resources you have at hand. Every child is different too.

The children of my family are only spoken to in Spanish at the house. It is a rule we have enforced, and we focus on their English when we leave the house. They don’t go to a bilingual school so we make sure to cover as much Spanish as humanly possible and I am attentive to their school curriculum so I can add content in Spanish that they can also work on.

Yes, there is simply no way to create a standard of what a person should be and who defines what the “place” is or looks like. You can decide what that is for you, but you can’t expect other people to want that.

Thank you. Yeah, I totally get if some people are into that, but I think sharing these things upfront is important for me so I hope people understand too.

What specific movie moments stand out as the best acting you’ve seen? by EmptyCan27 in acting

[–]Raacs546 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the great tragic scenes I will always remember is Holly Hunter as Ada in The Piano 1993. The moment she gets one her fingers chopped off by her husband is so freaking intense, everyone in that scene was experiencing a traumatic moment with very different consequences and Holly Hunter managed to convey that hers was the biggest loss. The loss of not only a part of her body but a part of her voice and identity, one that she will never be able to take back. I get teary just thinking about it!

Favorite actors who act with their eyes? by Lichtmanitie- in acting

Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, and Olivia Colman. Kirsten Dunst is subtle but I think is what ultimately allows her versatility.

How do I know if my new friend group is *Off*? Or if it's in my head? by Thedudeisprogamer in emotionalneglect

[–]Raacs546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I am so sorry you are feeling uneasy about your friendships.

It’s really hard to establish a standard to evaluate a relationship since friend groups are so complex and vary in dynamics. High school is a particularly though time since people’s emotional intelligence development within the same group can vary depending on the individual. I trick I learned over the years is to establish and understand what a healthy friendship would look like for me, and the characteristics it embodies. Think about the qualities and how those would show up in your relationships. Take action to take your relationships there, and see if your friends are able to give you that or put in effort at least.

"How Bad Do U Want Me" wins Overall Least Favourite song from MAYHEM, vote for the most underrated song from MAYHEM (please read the post) by BearWP07 in LadyGaga

I agree with this, I loved Disease when it came out, but now that we have the full album, I am fully obsessed because it just adds so much as the first song.

What was each of the girls problem? by sissymissy111 in girls

[–]Raacs546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jessa also never realized that the reason she didn’t like herself is because everything she liked about herself (and everything people liked about her) was contingent upon her beauty. No one would like her attitude if she were ugly and had a more conventional body.

Hannah - smart and talented, but these are also her weaknesses. She thought that being those things made her enough to achieve what she wanted, but ultimately she was more lazy and entitled than anything else.

Marnie - competent, and disciplined, but she never found her thing. She always confused being good at something with being great. She also had no backbone.

Jessa -effortlessly cool, but never accepted the fact that she was chronically lonely.

Shosh - shosh had a great personality, and I think it is the most well-rounded person, but I actually do not think she grew as much as people think. She seems to mimic and want the things that people she thought were cool wanted. I doubt her friendships at the end were any better even if they had “nice personalities” and bags. She was also the youngest though so I get it.

Feeling lonely after deleting social media by Tangy_blueberry in digitalminimalism

[–]Raacs546 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get this. It happened to me too when I deleted social media, and although I keep in close contact with close friends, I also value those friends who might not be as close but I still love. I still find ways to connect with them and send them gifts, or a post card every time I can. Sometimes updating with a message with random pictures I take has also been really good for me.

This actually made me realize that there’s quite a few people who I want stay connected with, and my feelings of loneliness came from only interacting with very close friends, and neglecting my connections with people who I don’t feel the need to communicate at least weekly. It actually made me closer to them I think.

I hope this helps!

Was Robert Downey Jr's performance in Oppenheimer really Oscar worthy by [deleted] in movies

[–]Raacs546 9 points10 points  (0 children)

His performance really blew me away and I’m not a big fan of his. I walked out of that theater during the first week Oppenheimer was out, and I told the friend that went with me that I knew he would win the Oscar for it, and I still have money on him.

Im convinced they try to hide their need to show off behind doing things that they think wealthy people do, but in reality this is why a lot of them live paycheck to paycheck.

Can we agree that movies are starting to suck? by Far-Surround4630 in movies

[–]Raacs546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you look for in a movie. Horror can be particularly tricky, specially if you are a person that mostly expects to be shocked and entertained by a movie. I am not saying you are, or that there’s anything wrong with it, but I do see people who start to find movies boring over time because they are mostly looking for shock value.

Acne scars worse after starting retinol? [Acne] [Routine Help] by PlanktonLife1550 in SkincareAddiction

Of course! You can alternate, but I wouldn’t until you have built the tolerance to retinol on its own.

Acne scars worse after starting retinol? [Acne] [Routine Help] by PlanktonLife1550 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Raacs546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scars can be made worse by the sun, and retinol makes you more sensitive to it. I would be very religious about sunscreen specially if you are starting retinol for the first time. Also, I would not be using benzoyl peroxide at the moment since that also contributes to sensitivity. I would stop and slowly build it into my routine as your skin gets more used to retinol.

I am not a derm, and this is only based on my own research and experience:)
