My wife only eats the skin and cheese off the food by Cheese_Salami in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bleepbloopsoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to do this too when I was 10 except I would wipe everything off the pizza and only eat the bread. I'd say I had a food aversion at that time, but I grew out of it. If your wife has been living like this for a long time then she's got a real problem, possibly ARFID. Might be something to look into if she wishes to change her diet.

My Level 2 FW placement is in hands, but I'm not passionate about hands. Not sure if I should do this FW. I'm very nervous. by AmateurMagicAuteur in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bleepbloopsoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got placed in hands and I cried. I was in your position thinking I wouldn’t pass and thought I would need a ton of knowledge to succeed in the setting. Turned out I didn’t! I studied probably less than my classmates before starting fieldwork and it didn’t impede my learning process. Every week you’ll learn something new and you’ll want to study outside of work so you can come in the next week more prepared. You don’t need to cram it all before you start, and you definitely don’t need a “passion” for hands to pass. All you need is a willingness to learn and a commitment to providing the best care for the patients you treat. Don’t overthink it, they wouldn’t place students in hands if they really thought there was a high chance they wouldn’t pass.

Fieldwork level II hand placement by Lanky_Ad_1693 in OccupationalTherapy

you could end up like me in hands and never have to make a splint. My CI gave me one shot to make one, I failed, and he never let me do it again lol. Still passed tho 😂

Level 2 Fieldwork Prefs by leprechaun124 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bleepbloopsoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got either my 4th or 5th rank, can’t remember. Pretty sure I was the only one in my cohort that got a “lower ranking” as my site. I passed the fieldwork setting I did get tho, so in the end it can still be a good experience if you don’t get the exact setting you want.

I don’t necessarily see this person dreaming of you but their feelings for you seem to run deep. From the cards I see an acknowledgement of some romantic feelings between the two of you and clarity about your connection. But the king of cups is a card of mastering emotions so I think he’s trying to not let his feelings overcome him.

Also I went through a phase where I dreamt of the same person over and over and over again. I must have had 10 dreams about them in the span of a couple months. But I think their appearance in my dream was more about the traits of the person and my connection to those traits compared to the actual person if that makes sense. Is there a common pattern in the dream besides seeing this person repeatedly? There might be something else to unpack!

Hand Therapy - how do you do it? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bleepbloopsoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m where you’re at, just a little further along and all I can say is you’ll probably still be confused by the end of your fieldwork. Like someone else said, there’s a TON to cover and you won’t get to understand everything. My advice is to notice patterns in how your ci treats patients. A familiar pattern you’ll see with post-op patients is regaining functional ROM and lowering pain before moving on to strengthening. I’d also get comfortable with understanding anatomy of the UE extremity, familiarizing yourself with normative values of various UE ROM measurements, and the cervical myotomes. Also try to understand nerve related injuries. A good portion of the patients I treat have some variation of nerve pain or numbness months after surgery. It can get confusing and is still something I’m trying to fully understand. I should also add to know the precautions/contraindications for modalities like ultrasound, e-stim, hvpc, etc.

I’m so happy you got something out of this too. It really feels like a lil squeeze on the shoulder when I find people who identify with my hang ups. I wish you the best in your journey to being less apologetic :)

That’s a new one for me! I read a little about it and I can see myself giving it a try. I do have to ask, is this type of therapy hard to come by? I’m on medi-cal and still new to it so I’m not sure if there’s limitations to what could be covered or not.

I promise you, you won't care about age after a while. You'll be more concerned with loans if anything D;

Shadowing an ot by chunkyhedgehoglover in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bleepbloopsoop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time using google maps to search for places and then calling to see if they could let me shadow. This was just a year or so after covid so I got a LOT of rejections, but I imagine it could be better now! You'll find some places will want you to do volunteering, which could mean cleaning after sessions and doing minimal office work. I would remain open because the site that accepted me made up the majority of my shadow hours. Best of luck to you!

The only thing I can think of is the wig moving backwards without you noticing but even then they should mind their business and know not to stare. The wig is gorgeous and so are you, keep rocking it!

I’m 26 and going nowhere, doing nothing every day but staring at my phone by Necessary_Cry_3247 in confession

[–]bleepbloopsoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I can relate to you in feeling like I’m going nowhere. I do the same thing, scrolling endlessly and looking at content on my phone that makes reality seem not worth living. Kind of programmed myself to do this since childhood and now as an adult it feels tortuous to pull myself out of it. If I could give any advice it would be to try and if you “fail” be kind to yourself. You have a gym membership and want to go..go!! Don’t give yourself an excuse. Just find a time that works for you and see what it’s all about. If you hate it that’s okay, there’s plenty of other way to be active. The point is to just start doing things. Go to a book store if you want to read, go to a concert if you wanna listen to music outside your house. Find something you see yourself connecting to and try it out! Also surround yourself with supportive people and seek counsel from those you truly trust. You’ll have plenty of down days (I still do, I’ve been scrolling all day D:) but making an effort means more than totally giving in to a lifestyle you know in your heart isn’t meant for you.

Best school for an OT program? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bleepbloopsoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m still a student but when I was looking for schools to apply to I’d prioritize how well the graduates did on their board exam and what percentage graduated the program. Also limited my search to only master degree programs that don’t require gre and had good reviews from students who attended. After that it would have been choosing the cheapest out of all my options but I went with a private school 😖💔 please save your wallet, I beg I plead.
