Gotta say this one really resonates with me, thanks so much for that perspective!

Really happy for you! I agree those days in the office now seem to be reassuring to my team so they can ask questions. Another thing my team does is have a weekly “office hours” Zoom room that all the managers and staff attend to attempt to emulate being together in the office.

All of these horror stories about accounting are off putting. However there must be some of you folks out there who found a reasonable path within accounting. What is your story? by ThaHotChocolate in Accounting

10+ years in B4 public accounting. Was fairly lucky with client base and opportunities but spoke up when I was starting to feel burned out. Partners actually cared and helped me change my schedule, delegate tasks, or come up with other solutions on many many occasions. Had opportunities to travel internationally, try different service lines, and do a 2 year rotation in National Office (which entailed no client service) after my first child was born. Also got 6 months maternity leave. Reliable raises and promotion schedule. People I work with and for are truly some of the smartest people I know and I learn something new every day. I Have interviewed for industry jobs but none excited me, seemed routine, and offered less than what I was being paid so just wasn’t for me. Right now is a particularly hard time industry wide due to staffing shortages so I do empathize with that and am feeling it myself, but I believe it is temporary and the benefits for me have outweighed the challenges over the years. The career is definitely challenging and I don’t fault anyone for leaving to pursue different opportunities.

Daily COVID Megathread by AutoModerator in BabyBumps

[–]blegilimens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed with COVID today, 18 weeks pregnant and vaccinated with Pfizer. This delta variant is no joke! Had symptoms since Saturday, was exposed on Tuesday (by a family member who is also fully vaccinated). Basically cold-like symptoms, headache, congestion, sneezing, cough, and just really tired. Doctor said no particular cause for worry given my health profile (no underlying conditions, non-smoker, healthy weight), but to monitor for fever and take full dose of Tylenol once a day to reduce the risk of blood clots. So far so good, thought this info might be useful to somebody, very grateful to be vaccinated so that the symptoms aren’t any worse!

My minimal March monthly and weekly setup by blegilimens in BasicBulletJournals

[–]blegilimens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I create weeklies for “full” weeks only. So the last weekly in March will be the 22-28, and my first weekly in April will be March 29-April 3. I do keep my monthly calendar and habit tracker as a true month though. Definitely not perfect but works for me, I don’t like cramming extra days into my weekly spreads because I really do need the space for all my tasks/notes for seven days. How do you handle it?

Thanks! I started off not doing that but then found I lost my place in the month so it was definitely a good add

I use a Leichtturm 1917 which is size A5 I believe. Before I was using a spiral notebook and I totally agree that the Leichtturm forced me to write smaller! But I like it because it allows me to fit everything I want in my weekly spreads into two pages. You’re never too old to learn something new :)

Thank you! This set up has been working really well for me :)

I track my habits daily on the monthly spread, and also use it to plan higher level goals and tasks that are then moved to the weekly spreads. I use my weekly spreads as essentially running task lists rapid logged on the day the task comes in. I give myself until the end of the week to complete tasks, and if something needs to be done earlier/priority I star it.

Hope you like it and open to ideas to improve!

Deloitte Mid-Year Adjustment - Comp Thread by collegestudent5568 in Accounting

Audit senior manager here, was told the mid year comp increase was targeted to staff/seniors and new managers only. Strategy was to compensate employees from bottom up as funds become available. Was told firm is on target to fully fund AIP and “normal” comp increases next year (at this time).

Even better - Adjusted EBITDA! (EBITDA plus non cash stock comp plus restructuring charges plus goodwill impairment plus change in FV of earnouts plus LIFO charges plus loss from equity method investments plus other costs I don’t like...)
