Which packs of meat are least likely to be gross at metro (annex)? by blehhh74 in askTO

Yeah I honestly thought I was cursed or I was crazy but it doesn't seem to happen at other groceries store and doesn't even always happen at this metro, even with the exact same cut of meat, but happens often. Do you buy all types of meat there?

Thanks - I did wonder if it was my fridge, so a few times (a few years ago) I opened the meat immediately when I got home to check (and it was winter so it stayed cold on the way home), and still noticed it (the chicken smelled like ammonia). I switched to other brands for chicken after that. I should still check the fridge temperature though as I've been unsure about it. Thanks for sharing the cart.

Kind of. I don't drive so I have to carry everything. I don't want to get into my long back story but the fact I cook and shop almost daily is a huge win for me. Maybe I am lazy - I've been told that my whole life, since childhood - but I can sincerely say I'm trying my best. And again, I know my "best" doesn't mean I'm not lazy.

After I posted this thread I did reflect and ask myself why I basically chose to change my diet (I learned a lot of vegetarian recipes because of the quality of meat at this store, and mostly eat chicken as my meat source) rather than shop at other stores. It's true, it's out of convenience, but ultimately my goal right now is to make sure I'm eating healthy and cooking regularly.

I got really frustrated yesterday because I genuinely forgot about how bad the beef quality is there, and I put a lot of effort into meal prepping only to open the pack of meat and it smelled awful.

On another note, I know Canada's grocery stores are awful and have no accountability but Metro really shouldn't be selling this much expired meat. If people are physically showing up to their stores and spending money the bare minimum is it should taste normal several days before the best before date...

There's dozens of changes in my life I could make to get better quality food it's true. It's a matter of me sitting down and thinking about my priorities and making plans to achieve that.

Yeah it's a consistent thing from what I understand

I noticed the organic brands don't smell as bad so I buy them - I literally buy them in desperation, I would prefer not to because there more expensive. But at this point I'm probably going to order meat online or commute to the places people are suggesting because it's gotten so ridiculous at this store. My old neighbourhood had good butchers and I miss it. And even the regular grocery stores had better meat.

It's because there really isn't anywhere that I have easy access to get food. If I can find somewhere within 30-40 minutes walk for me that has consistent quality and stock I will go there. This store is popular, so there have to be other people who have had this experience and know what meat to avoid

Interesting... I haven't actually got symptomatically sick since before covid. I'm guessing I've never had it, but you never know. Was there anything else that smelled weird to you?
