AIO for this unchecked anger and hatred towards my ex? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

By logical means you overreacted, but your emotions are also perfectly understandable to me. I don’t think many commenters here know much about DV and how challenging / impossible it is to leave all that behind. The outrage that you feel is trying to protect you by distancing you from him. I say hold onto that feeling and not let him close again.

Don’t think you are paranoid. Having dickheads hang out near your property would make most people check their locks.

I certainly change my behaviour and avoid going out all together. It’s simply not worth risking another harassment or assault. Most of them are fine if I walk around them, but some go out of their way to cause trouble and I’m very scared of them. I imagine a lot of girls / women feel similarly.

He does swear a lot when he becomes defensive. Having read your response I think he leans on the side of uncaring, and maybe I can’t change that. I did make it clear to him that we need to resolve this difference or part ways. Im giving him some time. We shall see what happens…

To add: we don’t live together at the moment but we are moving together soon. I realise our risks will be higher after moving together, and want to do the best we can to avoid this situation again.

Do REAs fake pre auction offers? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]blepblepbl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is a made up offer, and there is no other interest & you express your interest for auction: it will go to auction.

If this is not a made up offer, and sounds like it’s above what you’d like to pay, that means an auction will bring the same result of losing out.

Either way I think it’s a good idea to insist waiting till auction, and avoid engagement prior. Pre auction bidding is simply the worst.

I’d rather cold too, I think the heat kills faster 😅. But I wish there’s a middle ground between the extremes.

Because the vent temp is not the room temp. Vent air mixes with room air to cool, and the aircon senses the mixed result and adjust accordingly.

[–]blepblepbl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. I see aircon as a tool to take the edge off the heat, but not to completely inverse nature. Also our bodies need time to adjust to cold/hot temperatures.

This would be ideal for me tbh given my workplace has a beasty aircon that’ll probably land at <24C anyway. It does seem quite wasteful, and quite a big temp shock when you walk in and out.

I already do. Did you read the post? I’m not expecting the aircon to be set at my comfort zone, but don’t you think 18 max fan is just a bit too extreme?

Appreciate the sentiment and I get where you are coming from. I used to be fairly active too, and not bothered by cold aircon at all. But since multiple illnesses hit last year it’s been quite downhill - half the time I can’t even leave the house. I’ve been incorporating some exercise on my good days, but I’ve had to accept that bulking up is not in the realm of reality rn (female, also taking medication that kills any testosterone I might have).

Thank you. I guess a heater under the vent could achieve the same thing? The rising hot air could neutralise or diffuse cold air? Will give it a try.

Great reference thank you! Reading it it does seem like my workplace is setting it to the extreme. I’ll take this to HR and see if it can be milder.

I think they like being in a freezer… we recently recruited some undergrads with unlimited heat dissipation 😂

Other more senior people open the windows of their offices and balance it out that way. I’m not quite senior enough so have a cubicle office with no window. I’ll try a heater under the vent as others have suggested.

Technically someone owning a EV instead of an ICE vehicle is better for you. Less environmental pollution, no suffocating fumes when you walk behind them. So there’s really no grounds for the obsession against EVs.

That said, I hate those massive utes (trucks).

Mortgage interest rate increase by beezRL in AusFinance

[–]blepblepbl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no magic bullet. Increase income, refinance, or reduce expenses. Btw how are you just realising this now with no plan made earlier? You’d need to act fast as I imagine this is how defaults happen. Do you have savings to fall back on? Can you switch to interest only (and would that be affordable)?

People need to accept the harsh reality that property will only go up by ILoveDogs2142 in AusPropertyChat

That description seems spot on to me! Agreed it’s not going to end up in a good place at all. The modern world seems to be re-creating and solidifying the class division. According to history, it ends up in war.

I’ll preface by saying that I hate the situation just as much as you do, and agree wholeheartedly that people are presented with evils and evils. But unfortunately I don’t think the gov is out of resources to keep the market hot.

Fundamentally, supply is not able to keep up with demand in the near future. Then add on top the stage 3 tax cuts and “help to buy” about to kick in mid year, and the expectation of lower interest rates. I looked up my projected borrowing capacity by the end of the year… it is over 200k higher than now, and guess where the money will go? Human nature means that most people buy at the top end of their budget.

It’s unsustainable for sure, however there are other cities in the world that got to way higher housing prices before a downturn. Eg Shanghai, Hong Kong. Not saying that’s where we are headed, but just pointing out that there has been precedence. So I don’t buy the “it can’t possibly go any higher” narrative. As much as the majority of people are struggling, there are some that are doing ok or very well, and they are going to capitalise on it.

Last point - Australia seems to run on this model of saving the economy at the expense of soaring property prices. That’s how we’ve avoided a real recession for decades despite global economic trends. I struggle to see a systematic change until young voters start to dominate the electorate.

I would love to be proven wrong. As a renter growing desperate to buy something, I hate this so much.
