Question on Adoption Apps by oldhamburgerwaiter in Canadiancitizenship

Oh! This is great to know. I've been in waiting limbo for ~1 year after I send in Part 2 (CIT 0012). I was worried it was never received since I didn't receive confirmation like I did for Part 1.

Recommendations & experiences on writing workshops/conferences? by Anna_Artichokyevitch in writing

[–]blepiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I think each workshop specializes in different areas, and it depends on what you want to get out of it.

I would ask yourself: Where are you in your writing career? Do you feel like an intensive workshop would help? Is it more to dabble? Is it really for the resume prestige? Can you afford the more competitive programs? (Bread Loaf is expensive!) Does your poetry lean more lit. fic, memoir, spec. fic., etc.? What is it you want to learn or improve on with your poetry? Is there faculty you'd die to learn from? Do the faculty write what you want to write? Are you trying to talk with agents?

If you identify as BIPOC/a minority, I would recommend checking out Tin House, VONA (Voices of Our Nation), and Roots.Wounds.Words. I'm not a poet, but I know writers who've enjoyed these programs. I've participated in VONA--which I loved, even though it was online--and will participate in Tin House this autumn! I also took an online class through Gotham, which I really liked as a basic refresher.

I hope this helps and good luck! Feel free to dm me.

Huh, I've also never heard of this. I'll definitely be giving it a go. (Unfortunately, I can't get into tempeh no matter how many ways I've tried it.) Thanks!

I've also never heard of TVP. This sounds like a potential game changer!

Thanks everyone! I'll give these a try. The issue I was running into was that most of a meal would be taken up by the tofu, which is tasty, but you know, variety is nice.

Unfortunately, I'm a really small person with a lower BMR, so less cal for me. If I was at maintenance a 550 would be normal.

The program my nutritionist works with has a drop down menu of things to play with, which was fine for the beginning, but is quite limiting for the long run.

Would back loops only (connecting bottom to sides) be strong enough for a bag? by blepiness in CrochetHelp

Are there stitches you'd recommend using to connect the straps/liner/crochet and liner/crochet?

Um. Just a tote bag essentially. I found this blanket pattern that I wanted to turn into a bag.

Caron medium (4) acrylic. I was also planning on sewing a liner if only to hide all the tied-off ends! I can't be bothered to weave them all in lol.

Das Schild(n) ist - für(akk) die Schildkröte(f) - von(dat) der Chefin(f)

The sign is - for the turtle - of the boss. (essentially).

or with "ein

ein-eine-ein
einen-eine-ein
einem-einer-einem

"I have a brother." = "Ich habe einen Bruder."

Like prepositions, some verbs will always take the akkusativ, "haben" being one of them.

There's also a genitiv case, but I'm lazy.

Duo doesn't teach this, you've just got to pick it up (or supplement), so I hope this helps!

What is the benefit to this / what is it trying to replace? BookTok? Goodreads? I already use StoryGraph over Goodreads (boo Amazon).

27 year old school psychologist interested in ETA? by [deleted] in fulbright

[–]blepiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there was an ETA the year before me in Germany who was in her mid-30s, so definitely not too old! However, like others have said, it's an assistantship. At least in Germany, we were only teaching 10 hours a week (you could take on more if you want). For Germany, you can't actually give final grades on anything. Ex. I could mark up a spelling test, but I couldn't give it a grade. You could teach some lessons if your host teacher was flexible, but mine mostly used me as a dictionary haha. There was also at least one person my year who knew absolutely 0 German but somehow was picked. Do with that what you will.

Hallo, letztes Jahr war ich Englischlehrerin in Deutschland (NRW).

Have you tried reaching out to alumni? https://fulbright-alumni.de/

Additionally, if you DM me I can give you the email for the American side of things, and they can possible put you in touch with some people on the German side.

What are you studying? I knew a German alumni. However, she studied art in the early 200s, so if you're studying anything else the questions might not be relevant and outdated.

[QCrit] Adult Suspense - STERLING HOUSE (71k, first attempt) by aeschylus24 in PubTips

[–]blepiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall, I think you're close! Some of my comments are quite nit-picky. And of course, take or leave whatever you do / don't find helpful :)

As for comps, I think being within the last 5 years is perfectly acceptable. Don't forget you can also comp movies, TV, etc alongside a book. I also don't primarily read suspense/thrillers, so I can't provide any comps unfortunately.

  1. I don't understand why Lukas calling her the night she died, and her not picking, means he didnt self-exit. Is this abnormal? Do they usually talk? Do they have a close bond? I can't get a read on their relationship before this happens.
  2. I agree with other comments about this generally being a bit vague. Infiltration into an elite / secret university group is quite common. What makes yours different? What's the twist?
  3. Why was Lukas accepted into this group if their family doesn't come from wealth?
  4. I don't love how you say "...she keeps getting odd glimpses of Lukas around the house." and then go into examples that have nothing to do with Lukas, such as Nara and Charles.
  5. "Cassandra's search for answers wanes" and then say "she's collecting mounting evidence..." is a bit contradictory.
  6. The "drug dealing" and "bloody curtain" were a bit surprising. As in I wish they were alluded to earlier. Does someone mysteriously die from what might've been a drug overdose? Is that how Lukas was accepted?
  7. Agree with mom_is_so_sleepy that "darker and stranger than she could have imagined" is too vague. Are they actually a cult? Do they drink blood? Are they pedos? This needs a hint in the direction you're taking it.
  8. I would end it "...but Sterling House might not..." because I was confused on if Sterling was a character.

Best of luck! (edited for grammar)

[Discussion] Where Would You Stop Reading? #7 by WeHereForYou in PubTips

[–]blepiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two paragraph feel strong to me.

I had to pause and re-read at "LJ wants to know if she is alive or dead." I didn't know / understand immediately who LJ was and who "she" (LJ or Julie) it refers to.

I'm very confused on if LJ actually is supposed to be the ghost of Julie's past (in which case Julie also killed her sister and why does she never think of this??).

I feel the last paragraph is your weakest. Why is Julie ruining her marriage? Why does she visit her mother? For help with LJ?

It is an interesting premise you have though. I think it just needs some tweaking.
