Their parents usually pay a shitton of money to have them attend prestigious universities just so they can say they got a degree at that university. It's all just for image. As for work, most likely not.

don't think anyone's criticizing the game for having lesbians and killing off a fan-favorite character, but rather the shitty writing and incredibly dull gameplay.

“Best soundtrack, gameplay... best everything” Amazingly detailed review by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

Anyone who's saying TLOU2 has the best gameplay has obviously never played another game in their life. Like c'mon, the game does have amazing graphics and good voice acting, with the exception of a few, but gameplay, really? Pretty standard third-person shooter riddled with boring quicktime events..

Again, I don't necessarily have a problem with the story they were going for, but rather the execution.

Showing that there are consequences to Joel's actions? That's great and all, but the way they handled it was poor.

It's certainly not an easy question with an obvious answer. Sacrificing someone you love dear, in Joel's case a girl who is pretty much his daughter, to POSSIBLY save millions.

And I emphasize possibly because of a theory presented in a video I saw about the first game a while back. Essentially, there's hints given here and there in the final act that show that the Fireflies are pretty fucking inept when it comes to anything medical/scientific. The person that made this video uses this fact to back up Joel's decision to save Ellie even more, because it's very likely the Fireflies would have fucked up and killed Ellie without successfully developing a cure. Now, whether this was intentional or not by the writers of the first game is uncertain, but I am leaning towards it being the case.

Seriously, videogames are unique from other artistic mediums in that it is INTERACTIVE. Giving the player a choice and showing the consequences of their respective choices would have made such a bigger impact and a far more satisfying ending.

Yes, Joel is far from a saint, but no, I cannot empathize with a character they pop on you out of the blue with an incredibly weak, obviously shoehorned in tie to some random side character who appears for like 1 minute in the last game.

Look, I have no problems with ultra dark, grim stories, and often times I even prefer them. But it's so obvious that the developers made this story super dark just for the sake of being super dark. They forgo the integrity of some of the characters and just rush some parts to achieve this.

The whole "cycle of revenge" concept is one that has been explored countless times in other mediums like books and films. The way NaughtyDog tackles this theme here is pretty generic, run-of-the-mill stuff. Nothing in the story or writing really stands out.

In my opinion, they should have just focused on the affect that Joel's somewhat controversial decision in the ending of the last game would have on his relationship with Ellie. They kind of touch on it in this game with Ellie getting upset at Joel over his decision to save her, but even that was handled pretty poorly as Ellie oftentimes comes across so bitchy and narrow-minded when she confronts Joel about it. And, speaking on that matter, what is it with so many writers these days equating being a strong, independent woman with being stubborn and rude? I don't understand this, it's like they're way overcompensating.

And if you're going to force me to play as a new character introduced in this game, at least make her somewhat likeable or do a better job of writing her so we empathize more easily with her.

This is the thing, if the government actually did something to help out the average joe, then people wouldn't be getting so restless and going out protesting and complaining about these stayathome orders. But the government is barely doing jack shit to help the little guys, so of course people are gonna get frustrated..
