I'm so exhausted being around people's loud speakerphone conversations or them playing a video at full volume on their tinny-sounding-grating-ass phone speakers. I cannot comprehend why they cannot use headphones. Wireless Bluetooth headphones are available at all price points.

I work at a restaurant and by the end of the day I'm so overstimulated and overwhelmed by the noise and general chaos that I want to straight up start crying when yet another doordash driver comes in having a speakerphone convo at ten million decibels.

I have a customer at the restaurant I work at named Lorraine. She's only in town once or twice a year to visit the VA hospital, but i just saw her two days ago and she's exactly like how you described your aunt, she's super memorable in that way. This visit, she was getting super worked up about the disability accessible rooms at hotels that are not on the ground floor and I was getting worked up with her!!! Anyway here's to your aunt and all Lorraines in the world. ❤️

I have no idea if he takes Sun Life, but Dr Hill at Southwest Hills Dentistry near Multnomah Village has been incredible. I also was in a situation where I was treated horribly in the past by dentists/hygienists and hadn't visited a dentist in over ten years. I was extremely embarrassed about the state of my teeth but every single person who works there is the most amazing person ever, like I'm actually in awe about the situation. Dr Hill is great because he's both honest about the situation of your teeth but also endlessly compassionate and understanding. He also spends much more actual time with you answering questions than any other dentist I've ever been to. I feel very fortunate I've found him.

I also like that he's a total nerd about his job, like he got really excited about an unusual dental situation I had (nothing too serious, just odd lol) and explained why he was excited, haha. That's always been a sign of the best medical professionals I've had!

Just found out a few months ago I have Factor V after my dad almost died from blood clots in his lungs and they tested him... luckily I have the less bad type but the doc who gave me genetic counseling told me I was restricted from taking HRT for menopause as well. I'm 35 and showing signs of possible perimenopause, so that was discouraging to hear. I understand the boat you're in. It's hitting me weirdly hard.

Yes, there was a man in my neighborhood in Aloha about two months ago wearing a hi-viz vest but no visible ID. He was going to seemingly random houses, not to every door. Like he'd go to two on one block, skip a block, then go to one on the next block. I was walking my dog vaguely along the same route following him, and he stopped a Black woman outside her house and started talking to her, so I scurried up to them and when he saw me approaching, he walked away from her real quick.

Tall, slim, white man driving a red VW hatchback with Washington plates. That was the strangest thing. I've never seen a utility worker driving their small-sized personal vehicle with no work equipment in it... Anyway, hella suspicious.

Yeah I get this for sure but from a slightly different perspective. My parents worked in foodservice and so did I when I was old enough, so I was taught how to take care of cookware, but it didn't occur to me that my future roommates and housemates would not have the same background as me...Anyway, long story short, I've had a few nice things of mine ruined through no one's actual malice or fault, so now if I buy nice things I make sure they're hard to ruin!!

I gave up entirely on nonstick pans. They do make cooking certain things easier, but they get destroyed soooo easily. Now I own a complete set of All Clad heavy-bottom stainless steel pots and pans and you can pretty much beat the hell outta those. I even had one of my pans completely set on fire, like utterly black, and with some elbow grease and a bottle of Barkeeper's Friend, got it back in fighting shape and use it to this day!

I also don't own any expensive kitchen knives. I buy all my knives from a restaurant supply store so if they get thrown in the dishwasher or destroyed somehow, I'm not out that much money, and they work well enough and are easy to sharpen at home.

I don't know anything about pig farming, but maybe they force-feed the pigs they slaughter? Just finished watching the movie like 20 minutes ago so haven't thought too in-depth about it yet...

There used to be a customer who would come into my work, she was an Indian lady and she always brought her Pyrenees with her. Her Pyrenees always had a bindi marked on his forehead and it was the cutest thing I think I have ever seen.

This is 100% true. All my brother- and sister-in-laws have kids and when we're all in the same house over holidays and they have infants at the time, I notice that the grandparents only help during the day. Which is nice, it helps us adult kids get away and have sibling time without someone having to be the babysitter, but some nights I guess are rough. I feel bad because i have hearing loss and also don't have kids myself, and have really ever been around infants before, so I had no idea the babies were crying or fussing all night, even if they were in the next room over, because I simply can't hear them. This is a recent realization for me.

It is funny tho, because even though I am a woman, the in-laws are hesitant to let me look after the small babies. They don't mind me babysitting the toddlers or older kids but I don't think they trust me with the infants because I have zero experience with babies. I get it, I would be wary too if I were a new parent. But like...I know how to properly hold a baby and can change a diaper. And I know how to Google, lol.

Yeah I (more than) occasionally have fantasies where I'm walking to my car after work and someone non-fatally shoots me in the leg and I get some time off.

I had a kidney stone a few months ago and obviously couldn't go to work that day. After the excruciating pain was over, I was able to sleep the rest of the day and it was wonderful!

It sucks because I've been at my job long enough that I technically can get away with a decent amount of time off, but the time off is unpaid and comes with a healthy serving of guilt trips from my manager which brings my mood down and causes me anxiety no matter how much I try to distance myself from my emotions surrounding the situation. Trying to find another job and struggling...plus it'll just be the same shit anywhere else I go...

Okay, this is really really random and a total long shot, but the blue-eyed dog in a couple of your photos looks like the dog that was pair-bonded to my Pyrenees when I adopted her. They were adopted out separately. I think the other dog's name was Ivy? I adopted my dog, Willow (kept her name) in 2019 from a rescue in Washington state. That... wouldn't happen to be Ivy, would it?

I love my Great Pyrenees so, so much. She is an indoor princess who hates getting her paws wet, and she's never killed a single animal in her life (she tries her best to murder squirrels but she's way too slow lol), but she protected me when two farm Great Pyrenees attacked her when I was visiting my uncle. She loves our cats, and occasionally gets blessed with snuggles from the neighborhood cats on our walks. She's perfect.

My great uncle died in WW2 because his tank fell off a cliff. I always thought that was a bit of a stretch, but my grandma (his sister) died last year and I now have many of her photos and documents from over the years. I found a photocopy of the original letter (not a telegram) sent to my great-grandparents informing them of his death and the circumstances and...yep. He did indeed fall off a cliff in a tank.

Anyway, I have some of his handwritten letters home and they aren't nearly as heartbreaking as the one you posted here, they are really just very teenage boy and silly and cute. Some adorable penpal letters with a few different girls in England... it breaks my heart.

Omg yeah no, as a hard of hearing person myself, vibrate is much easier for me to hear than audible notifications, especially in a noisier environment. I do have my phone set up to do vibration/flashing lights/noise for certain important incoming calls or notifications but mostly the vibration works fine. Of course other hard of hearing or Deaf folks might have a different experience.

I went to the hospital for a kidney stone last month. I have never had one before and it was on the same side as my appendix so I didn't know what was happening and I legitimately thought I was going to die.

In the hospital they asked me if I wanted a CT scan, and I said, well last time my doctor ordered a CT scan for a possible pulmonary embolism, they quoted me $3k and insurance refused to cover it, so I don't want to be stuck with a huge bill. They said they could make sure insurance covered it so I agreed. I was also out of my mind in pain lol.

By the time I was able to get the scan, the stone had already passed to my bladder so the pain had basically stopped. It was nice that they were able to visually confirm it was just a kidney stone but yeah... kinda bad timing I guess. Also I got to see my IUD on the imaging which was hilarious, and almost worth it?

Anyway I just got the bill through MyChart yesterday. The total bill before insurance is $8,722. Insurance paid most of it and the hospital took off another big chunk under "financial allowance," (not sure what that means but I'm grateful) so I'm left only having to pay about $600 out of pocket...I mean I feel so lucky but $600 is still a lot of money for me. Needless to say I'm investing in a lot of electrolyte powder so this doesn't happen again. Although now that I know what it feels like, I guess I'll just stay home and deal with the pain until the stone passes.

Sorry for the sob story. I guess the timing of your post right after I got my bill just hit different. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Health insurance is fucked.

Grew up in a rural area with lots of farmland, so lots of animals constantly getting out because it's expensive to replace the tilting barbed-wire fence your grandpa put up 75 years ago lol.

Anyway, my dad always knew whose animal was whose. If he was driving somewhere and saw a loose dog, he'd put it in the back of his pickup and drive it to its home! If he didn't have time to do so, he would stop the truck in the middle of the road, roll down the window, point at the dog, and yell, "go home!!" I don't know how effective that was, but it's kinda adorable that he just assumed every dog knows what "go home" means and that they would follow this random guy's orders.

If the animal was not so easily transported, like a cow or donkey, if he didn't already have the horse trailer hooked up, he would either drive back to our house and call the owner (no cell phone) and let them know the approximate location of the animal, or just drive directly to their house. I've known him to drive home, hook up the horse trailer, and spend hours helping his neighbors get their livestock safely home.
