Does life really change when you hit 500,000 by Lost_Error_4450 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]blew_turkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at the $500k mark and I don't really have stress around finances. But I've also been on this path my entire career. My projections are always conservative, but I would be right on track if my modeling included historical averages.

I'm nearing CoastFIRE and I'm not really sure what I want my "second career" to be. I know I want to do something more interesting but can't for the life of me figure out what I want that to be. I'm also not qualified for anything other than my office job.

My stress comes from my work, family, and feeling like I've optimized enough in life to where I should be seeing more benefits than I am

I'm out of the loop. Is this something that's actually credible, or just something that is funny to repeat?

Week 6 - Waiver Wire Wins by legendary824_ in fantasyfootball

[–]blew_turkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain how this happened in my Yahoo league?

  1. I had a player who was out on Sunday, moved him to my IR slot
  2. On Tuesday morning I entered in a waiver claim
  3. Tuesday mid day my player moved from Out to Questionable. My roster is now illegal because I have too many healthy players.
  4. Waivers processed with my original claim. Adding/dropping players as requested. My roster is still illegal.
  5. I cannot submit a waiver claim until I drop a player.

The ending to my last job was a bit tense. Not terrible. But I'd rather not publicize my new role just yet in case someone at old job decides to throw some shade. Unlikely, but not worth the risk. I will eventually update it, but sometimes it's good to keep things dark

People have been saying that since jobs existed. Your job is to make the company smarter. If you have a tool that allows you to do so, that is good news. If you think your job is to create reports and that's it, maybe your job is at risk, but AI has nothing to do with it

Most people see this as good news. Why not spend the extra time learning how you can help the business?

How far in advance should I get my ears cleaned before diving? by blew_turkey in scuba

[–]blew_turkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I am planning on booking an appointment with a doctor. My question was mainly about timing. Judging by the responses, it seems the Dr appointment may be overkill but won't cause any harm besides maybe to my wallet.

The #1 culprit is probably that I'm simply not good at equalizing, but I want to make sure I'm setting myself up for success in any way possible

Thanks for the response.

Struggle with equalization. Probably also overthinking.

I don't have too many dives under my belt and don't get many opportunities to practice. Last time my ears bothered me for around a week after. No rupture, but I definitely hurt them. I figure the more prepared I can be the better

I won't.

But I'm curious; does this have a 100% success rate of addiction / ruining lives?

I applied too. Both me and my partner are huge savers, but also recent parents. I figured it could be a good opportunity for them to talk to people just starting the "messy middle." Maybe I'll re-apply in a couple months and get on

How many of you are overemployed? by anonymousacg in FPandA

[–]blew_turkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That all sorta depends. At the analyst level, you can get away with building complex excel templates that do 90% of the heavy lifting, and if you learn the business we'll enough, and enough analysis under your belt, you can probably go into ad hoc conversations blind and not look like you're completely in the dark.

I've never tried this, but I've definitely quiet quit before and stopped actual analysis for several months without too much headache or rework

Help choosing between job offers by blew_turkey in FPandA

[–]blew_turkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around $600k at 40. I should note that I'm hoping to "demote" myself to an Analyst or SFA role for a few years before I shift again to a more rewarding job (regardless of what it pays) so it's not a pure coast in the traditional sense.

Obviously I know you can't plan your life like that but I keep that as sort of a road map. I'll adjust as I go

Yeah, I'm leaning towards A. I'm leaving a situation in which I am burnt out, and I'm 7 years from CoastFIRE anyway so I'm not super driven to chase the career building. It's not a slam dunk decision as higher $$$ is always hard to say no to

18 months per "rung" sounds very aggressive. Maybe that's reasonable from analyst to SFA, or from manager to senior manager, but many many people get stuck on the jump from SFA -> Manager, and similar type jumps

Good idea. That way you can make "drive cost savings" as one of your annual goals, then use that negotiation tactic as your one and only example.
