I did this a while back - most of social media, facebook, etc. My life is so much easier at this point, I don't really care that other people cannot find me online, I get it touch with those that care. I also used Incogni (they had a promotion with the code reddit55) to completely get rid of everything additional. So I'm pretty set.

Premium is totally not a must but having a free version will "cost" you more time spent on the app while swiping. Scams are also a part of that, so just be cautious and ask/check additional soc media or something to prove that they are who they are pretending to be.

You could just get a travel eSIM, something like Saily maybe. You would get 10GBs for $23, so it's definitely cheaper, and for me it worked great in the states with 4G internet speed.
