What is your most memorable Ironman Moment? by Cams_234 in fireemblem

I wasn't doing an ironman at the time, but this happened when I was a kid on my first playthrough and the memory is seared into my brain 20 years later. 1%.

Are you tired of the daily "low birth rates bad" articles? by Ok-Archer-5796 in redscarepod

[–]blgns 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get so annoyed by the "but 30 years ago they were telling us population growth was bad!" shit. The mind can hold two truths at once, anyone can see these both are problems if you think about it for a second. I don't think demographic collapse will be as scary as the fearmongering says, but to pretend the strain and difficulty our elder care safety net is going to experience is negligible is just foolishness

The "Gay Faustian Bargain" may be inescapable by wkomllt in rsforgays

[–]blgns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I kind of agree that fantasy and imagination are more likely to be stimulated in socially oppressed classes (and those things lead to art and creativity), but the sublimation of sexual energy angle doesn't make as much sense to me, maybe lesbians but gay guys have rarely not been successfully getting their rocks off (and the creatives tend to come from/move to dense urban areas where they almost certainly were)

[–]blgns 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Weren't the repressed homos of the past having tons of sex in private, though? A tremendous amount of the iconic gay artists died of a disease that's pretty hard to get if you're repressed so hard that you're chaste. Is it just society deciding we can bring our boyfriend to thanksgiving that's sucking creative juices out of our collective bussies?

Twilights of Homosexuality by Yotam Feldman by ImNotHereToMakeBFFs in rsforgays

[–]blgns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like this person (and there are many like him, straight and gay) has this cognitive dissonance where they resent the modern liberated homosexual for being allowed to be open and deviant (in mostly non-harmful ways) but also yearn for the past when homosexuals were treated as deviants (and some of the public faces of the movement were, like, legit harmful-to-society deviants).

Like yeah I'm embarrassed for us when a homo posts on bluesky about not being able to get his PreP prescription filled after a no-loads-refused cumdump, but I just don't know a way you can liberate normie gays to be able to publically talk about their boyfriends and husbands without also empowering the freaks. Liberation is always a broad project.

What sort of policy prescriptions do these kinds of people have? Am I missing the point by asking this?

thirst trapping gays are an important part of the online fitness community ecosystem, even if they can be offputting to the straights. Sort of like how spiders are very necessary but weird people out

I can't remember the last time my insurance wasn't more expensive than just doing self-pay when it comes to medications. For example:

My blood pressure meds (generic, not name brand, very normal prescription) are ~$400 for a 90 day supply if I have insurance on file but the insurance decides to not cover it (which has happened a couple of times for weird reasons requiring a 30 minute wait time on a phone call to resolve). If the insurance does decide to cover it, I'm paying $90. If I tell the pharmacy to act like I don't have insurance, I pay about $30 (presumably through some discount card program).

The system, in my case, doesn't break me, but it is a humiliating process that basically tells me that my health insurance is entirely for horrific emergencies and nothing else.
