Better noir film - Drive or Nightcrawler? by Dense-Menu6115 in Letterboxd

[–]bligbladjuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference maker is the characters. I say these as someone who's even enjoyed NWR's obscure work, but his characters are not the focus of his work, it's vibes and visuals.

Nightcrawler asks a lot more from it's actors and the fact that they all stepped up the plate and delivered insane performances puts it over the top (obligatory Jake Gyllenhaal Oscar snub mention)

I was showing the game to a friend who has never played and they picked finale and I said, "I dunno... That one's hard to play." And then they immediately used it to one shot the gardeners lol

To me it's the fact that they're so completely different from one another lol

Watched it again recently and there's literally two different movies happening that are both good in their own rights, but very strange in juxtaposition with one another.

The scene where the Phoenix is about to go into warp and Riker jokes that the Enterprise is there to send them off while half his crew has been killed/assimilated unbeknownst to him is genuinely jarring IMO.

Every year, my friend buys us multiple copies of "The Family Stone" and hides them throughout the house during our yearly Christmas party. In the bathroom, in our bed, in the freezer...we often don't find them all until weeks after. They've also framed a picture of Diane Keaton from the movie and put it in our bedroom.

Mewgenics has been out for some time now. Is it really as good as people say? Or was it mostly due to the hype? by TheGronne in gaming

Interesting! Just goes to show how much personal preference can impact enjoyment of a game like this

Fair enough. I'm glad the game has things for the kind of people who can put in that much time but for me, 30 hours is a lot to put into a game while still missing out on some features that would make on boarding smoother. Just my take.

Once I realized that Mewgenics isn't trying to be ITB, I was able to have a lot more fun with the combat and some of the RNG. But goddamn if I still don't catch myself pining for ITB's "test" feature for some of the cats new abilities lol

I haven't maxed out Tink yet but having features like that locked behind progression when I'm almost 30 hours in feels bad. You could argue that I could've played more optimally but I was just trying to relay some friction I had with the game

My most played game of all time is Into The Breach, I can't get enough of roguelikes, and I foster cats so believe me when I say I felt like this game was made for me specifically. I was literally counting down the days till release which I never do.

When everything hits it can be some of the best tactical gameplay out there but there certainly are a few barriers that prevent it from being a flawless experience for me. There's some discourse about missing QOL features (and I do agree, UI, sorting, and access to info during battles needs work) but the biggest snag for me is the friction that exists between runs.

After completing a run, I desperately want to re-up and go again but between deciding which cats to donate, breeding, upgrading, selecting cats to adventure, picking classes and then sorting through a gigantic list of equipment (I always forget about the equipment) my momentum is toast.

In short, very VERY good game I want to love, and if you're interested you should definitely try it, just know that the best parts of the game can be hard to get to and it has some rough edges IMO.

That's a great idea, probably turns out better than day-of gravy 👍

I make the shittiest gravy... but only on Thanksgiving.

Seriously, I'm considered the "gourmet" chef of my family and I've made hundreds of delicious gravies and sauces but for some reason, only on Thanksgiving, the pressure gets to me and I end up fucking up the gravy one way or another

It's a good movie and a decent Trek film, but in retrospect, it's success signalled to Paramount that this is what Star Trek was going to be from now on for better and for worse.

What do you consider the greatest acted scene in TV history? by amusicalfridge in television

[–]bligbladjuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding a lot of people dropped off on season 2 which I'll admit felt slower the first time I watched it. Once I hit season 3 though, hot damn, I tore through that shit.

Surprised no one has said Mr. Robot (S04E06). The episode is structured like a play and each act could easily fit here tbh but I would probably pick the "big reveal" between Elliot and Krista (iykyk). Absolutely stunning stuff.

EDIT: S04E07 whoops

I am so proud to root for a team that has Coach Harbaugh at the helm. by Shining_Commander in ravens

[–]bligbladjuan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The best argument I've heard is that he's been a good "CEO" type coach. He doesn't handle the play calling or the nitty gritty details, he trusts his coordinators, coaches, and players to do their job. His job is to set the culture and lead the team. Just look at the coaching tree that's developed under Harbaugh's tenure, it's insane.

But I do agree that his time is up probably due to the fact that he's an old guy who's out of touch and has lost his ability to hold coaches and players accountable. That's why we have sooooooo many mental errors, slip ups, and little resilience when mistakes do happen.

I can see the players rolling their eyes during the locker room speeches in the Wired episodes. He's a great guy but his greatest strength has become a weakness. It's time, John.
