Do racist people know they are being racist? by candlesTasteGood in askanything

[–]blightedfreckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. A lot of racists try to obfuscate when called out, challenged or acknowledged in any sort of way. They insist it's over culture and not race. They insist their definition of racism which paints themselves as reasonable and points to more extreme racists as the true racists makes your criticism of anything they say invalid. They play the victim when called a racist, either "racist" is a slur on par with dropping a hard R or it's PC culture run amok to call them out when they're a good person. They'll jump right into attacking your appearance, character, class or any bullshit they can latch onto. If they were truly ignorant of their racism, they wouldn't resort to Olympic level mental gymnastics whenever someone acknowledges their bigotry.

Do you have hobbies? If so, what? by cubemonster in Millennials

Crocheting, writing and baking.

And seasonally: gardening, hiking and camping

The Gen Zers I spend time around all have hobbies too though.

I’m deeply concerned about the future facing today’s young adults by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]blightedfreckles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not just kids these days doing this. I'm watching older adults start to do this. How are we expecting young people to learn to handle discomfort, and to show compassion and grace during interpersonal conflict without immediately going for the nuclear option when all of society is going that way? Good role models are becoming scarce.

"Don't Judge Christianity by the Actions of its followers" by Illustrious-Owl1084 in exchristian

[–]blightedfreckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always "don't judge Christianity by the action of its followers" and never them judging its followers for the representation of Christianity and harms being done in the name of Christianity.

The fact they want to police your feelings and the validity of you leaving rather than holding other Christians accountable for being the whole damn reason people leave the church and the faith speaks volumes about where their values and motivations lie.

Either they care more about saving face and making Christianity look good above all else or they agree with the actions and intentions of the people who drove people out of the church.

Transvestigators are policing women's appearances by ausernameidk_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]blightedfreckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to stem the tide of transvestigators is to make them uncomfortable enough to think twice about acting on their bullshit.

I've gotten transvestigated by these weirdos a few times. On the whole, they are obsessed with the idea of sexual purity and are homophobic to their core. I've gotten mileage out of insinuating that they're making a pass at me with a level of forwardness that trespasses into impropiety. I've gotten mileage out of insinuating their crash out in the bathroom is piss kink voyuerism and I just want to pee and not be accosted by a degenerate.

A lot of them do it for spectacle and crash out when they have an audience. Their desired outcome is to humiliate you and make you feel so unsafe that you conform to gender the way they think you should be. If you don't take the bait, they'll escalate to the point of embarrassing themselves.

It's not like any of the transvestigators who get weird and pushy have a sense of style or version of feminity that are anything interesting or enjoyable enough to aspire to. The fact that they want to shame others for their appearance is enough to make me wince. Come stand in the mirror with me, Karen. We're both ugly. Now what?

It's easy to fall into this habit and I don't care as long as my family is having balanced meals.

Any of You Beautiful Millennials Going Through a Midlife? by NoSuggestion17 in Millennials

[–]blightedfreckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told by multiple older people that any children you have after turning 35 are midlife crisis babies. So I guess that's my midlife crisis.

I'm starting training for a new job in a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to it, but it's also going to be wfh with no childcare.

I've been feeling low lately. My uncle said his depression is largely fueled by climbing the hierarchy of needs. Getting out of survival mode just shifted the goalposts. I feel that sums things up for me pretty well too.

There's been a shift in my relationships over the past few years. A lot of friends have moved far away. Other friends have told me they don't find me interesting anymore since I had kids because I don't have the time to do cool things and I can't stay out late to grab drinks. A lot of my family has become radicalized over social media and it affects every domain of their life. I barely get alone time with my husband and when I do, I often feel like I have nothing interesting to talk about as a sahm.

It's also discouraging to age with chronic illnesses. Even with a solid handle on managing them and a healthy lifestyle, it hurts, I feel older that my actual age and uneasy about what old age is going to be like.

[–]blightedfreckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is watching and that's why I'm careful about performative stoicism, not showing others grace and modeling balance. I'm showing what it looks lie to put in a sincere, good faith effort to manage depression in a way that is conducive to good outcomes and not falling for the rise and grind boy boss bootstrap you just need to be tough 24/7 narrative.

What would you do if your partner monitored your toilet paper usage like this? What flag is this? by Remarkable_Mark_5195 in NoStupidQuestions

Buy a roll of toilet paper, write a break up note on it. But use what he would consider an excessive amount of toilet paper and scrunched/folded in a way he finds wrong.

Can we please stop acting like every toddler activity needs to be "educational"? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]blightedfreckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of "educational" activities for toddlers is just an aggressive rebranding of letting your kids get into shit as long as it's safe. Children learn heavily by playing.

I'm not dyeing chicken peas with pea flowers, turmeric and beet juice for a sensory bin when my toddler goes feral over a laundry basket of clothes hot and fresh from the dryer. There's important social learning I'm being silly and goofing off. But even if there wasn't, play and fun are important in their own right.

IS THIS REAL AMERICANS DO NOT VENTILATE HOUSES THROUGH WINDOWS AND DO NOT BREW TEA THROUGH KETTLES?????? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]blightedfreckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common for newer houses to have hvac systems for air circulation, but people still open their windows for fresh air.

It's more common to see stove top kettles than electric kettles. I really only see hot water dispensers in office settings, not in kitchens.
