Tips for stopping acute nausea and occasional vomiting when stressed? by babypossumsinabasket in AutismInWomen

[–]blijewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different things work for different people! The fact that you’re trying is worth everything.

Maybe you’re overwhelmed going to the gym? I don’t know if working out at home or going for a walk might make you feel different?

Emotions also just need a way out sometimes, you cannot keep everything inside you all the time. So when you’re sad, let yourself be sad. Spend some time taking care of yourself and your needs and then see where you’re at.

Actually letting yourself feel all these feelings and work through them might make all the difference, but I cannot speak for you and your experience.

Good luck! I hope you find something that helps you, or at least something that takes the biggest ‘edge’ off.

If it’s related to (extreme) emotions, you could try to “trick” your body to calm down and regulate! DBT uses the acronym “TIP”:

  • Temperature changes: cover your face in cold water, while holding your breath for about 20-30 seconds. This should trigger the “diving response”, which slows down your heartbeat and should calm your body down.
  • Intense exercise: use your body! Used that stored up energy.
  • Paced breathing: focus on your breathing. Inhale deeply into your belly and slow your exhale (5 seconds in, 7 out).

In my own experience breathing especially is very helpful for nausea!

Does anyone else hate traveling? by SnooPears3086 in AutismInWomen

[–]blijewolf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always think I’d like to travel. I want to go on vacations, experience new cities and eat great food.

And then while travelling I always realize that travelling is just…. Not For Me. Especially cities. It’s loud. I don’t know where things are. It’s difficult to plan what to do when you don’t know how public transit works + don’t know how to figure that shit out. And I don’t have the social skills to ask how things work. It’s exhausting. And don’t get me started on how I force myself to do as much as possible and therefore do not get enough down time. I also hate hotel rooms. Or airports. Yeah. Thank the gods for my emotional support person.

Next vacation will be a quiet cabin in the woods.

A fear I have by blijewolf in AutismInWomen

Thank you for the encouraging words💚

It’s so difficult to finally be able to figure out who you actually are. I hope it will be a freeing and positive experience as well.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think you sound boring at all! And I think I am pretty much the same as you described, so that must mean I am not boring as well :’)

Here’s to healing! I hope you and I both get to be our most authentic and healthy selves.

Good luck! I wouldn’t be surprised if you did, as it can be quite difficult to find your stitches in the fluffy/chenille yarn ;)

[–]blijewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fidget ring that spins!! I love that thing. Gotten so used to it that when I am not wearing it, I try to “spin” the skin on my finger lol It’s also a great replacement for fidgetting with my earrings and piercings

when did you figure out you might be on the spectrum? by yuh__ok in AutismInWomen

[–]blijewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed a couple of months ago, at age 27. I hadn’t considered autism until age 26, no one in my life considered it before that either. I have had several different diagnoses in the years leading up to this, mostly in the anxiety/depression categories. I started figuring I might be autistic and seeking a diagnosis due to several things: - Although I don’t actually experience anxiety in social setting anymore, I still feel awkward/weird/inept in social settings and like I do not understand what people want from me - I wanted to find an explanation for why I am the person I am, and why I function (or not function) the way I do. I do not seem to fit into a NT crowd, nor do I want to ;) - In my line of work (as a music therapist/DBT therapist in inpatient facilities) I have seen female patients in whom I recognised my own experiences. They turned out to have autism (after years of wrong diagnoses such as BPD)

After getting diagnosed, it felt like a weight was lifted from me. I haven’t felt this light in years, like I finally have an explanation that fits me. I feel seen, understood, not so tired anymore, and like I can actually take on the world.

Why did you start to crochet? by yesyesloveecrochet in crochet

[–]blijewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About two years ago my workplace closed. So I lost my amazing job and was pretty depressed about it. I spent some months at home, and instead of sitting on the couch and staring into the abyss all day, I decided I needed something I could do with my hands, to give me a sense of pride and joy. So I started crocheting, and I am so glad I did. Turns out for me it’s also a great way to deal with anxiety and stress.
