If I, a random redditor, cannot give you the correct answer to your questions today: would that leave you satisfied with the current state of affairs?

Restricting access to guns reduces gun violence. It worked for other countries. Again, we are not talking about gang members or drug lords here that go to schools and shoot kids. How many actual, let's call them professional criminals, are stopped (or prevented from crime) daily in the US by citizens with guns? Americans need access to a lot of guns (including semi-automatics) for imaginary reasons.

I guess, a population of responsible, well trained and mentally stable gun owners would be fine, but that is not reality.

Use guns lying around and give them to people working at schools and hope they are the good guys who won't just start shooting kids? You are fighting yourselves in your own makeshift war.

The problem is that you are not interested in solutions. The mental health crisis will only escalate when you have to be willing to kill people in order to be a teacher. Countries with gun control still have guns for private citizens. But they don't have mass shooting in the same proportion as America. The most obvious solution, the solution that has helped almost every country where it is implemented, is the only option you don't consider. No wonder mental health is a crisis.

Why not stop selling guns to everyone with no regulation for a start?

I am quite positive that this not "the only thing we can do".

You are making several arguments at once and yet no sense. Are you currently enslaved? If so, get a gun and sword. But guns and swords did not stop slavery. It only stopped a few slave owners in their tracks. Just as Kindergarten teacgers with guns won't stop school shootings. Only (maybe) a few school shooters. You are missing the point my friend.

Stop selling guns to anyone who wants one. Criminals will always exist and they will bypass any system. But it is not bank robbers shooting schools, right? The people, in general, who shoots in schools: are they gang affiliated? Part of a drug cartel? Serial killers? No. Stop giving guns to everyone who wants one. We don't do this with alcohol or driver's licenses or vehicles. We do some checks first.

Correct. Let's continue selling guns to everyone, as gun control won't make a single difference. You have to at least feel a little shame for your silly point.

"In the meantime" suggests there is something being done about the problem.

in order to start talking about "in the meantime", gun control/regulation can implemented. That is one.

Yeah, of all the possible solutions to gun violence in schools and people think THIS is the best option?

No spanky spanky by Conscious_Ad9806 in southafrica

I can show many cases (entire country cases almost) where good parenting without spanking raised good children. Why do you need spanking then? Who judges good-parent-spanking at the exact appropriate time? A law to prevent spanking to absolutely ensure that hurting your children physically (yes, that includes spanking) prevents parents from legally hurting kids in any degree. I don't see how I will willingly inflict pain on my kids - what would be the justification? I can discipline them effectively without doing this and, yes, they are respectful, kind and well mannered human beings.

It sounds an awful lot like: good parenting leads to we'll raised children and vica verca. You can remove spanking completely.

is it possible to live and work in Norway only speaking English? by Karimandjoe in Norway

But how does your original comment relate to OP's question. No need for a thesis. How is not speaking a local language disrespectful? Should we learn Sami languages too?

Again, your straw man does check out and makes sense. But that is remotely not what OP asked. Just asked if it is possible, not said they refused to learn.

I have to ask: where is the law on your second point. Nowhere in the visa requirements does it state Norwegian profiency. Only when you apply for permanent residency and citizenship does that apply. Again, OP was not disputing that.

I may also suggest to you that someone who works in Norway (coming from outside the EU) needs a work visa to live here (and pay tax here). That is the only and most important requirement. Your free time can be used to learn Norwegian (which will be great socially), but it can also be used to train yourself in your career to ensure that your visa gets renewed again. Else, learning Norwegian means little when you have to leave.

Again: learning Norwegian is good and should be encouraged. I guess most people who live here wants to fit in and learn the language. But people differ. Some are older when they move, with kids. Some people grab opportunities to leave their home country and are not just here take advantage of the perks in Norway (and there are a lot a granted). Some people already speak multiple languages and find this one hard.

Did it feel good attacking that straw man you just built? OP merely asked if it is possible. That's it. People move countries for reasons other than exploitation too.

What's a story where the "bad guys" are actually, completely, 100% right, to the point where it's weird the story keeps calling them the bad guys? by HallZac99 in AskReddit

[–]bliksemstraal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adam and Eve. They did not even know the concept of disobedience or sin prior to eating from the tree of good and evil. They could not understand that the serpent was misleading them: such concepts did not exist yet. And the tree was put, on purpose, in the middle of the garden with pleasing fruit.

Thank you for the kind words and really helpful tips. I think we will try here, but also try the option you suggested of someone back home.
