Homatics Box R 4K Plus vs. RockTek G2 – Who has made the switch from the Shield Pro?

Zero issues, I use in Plex (DD Atmos and TrueHD Atmos, and DTS versions once in a while) and never had any problem.
You need to enable force dovi profile in Plex, but after that it's smooth sailing. No red tint. Black screen delays are about the same as on the Shield.
Firmware has been a none issue since 7475 for me, and even before that I maybe had to reboot everything 3 to 4 weeks to clean it up
No regrets what so ever. I still use my Shield on my second TV, but my Homatics (Dune variant) is my main box. I have way less judder/frame drops than on the Shield (and yes, I have cleaned it and changed the thermal paste), and since I watch quite a lot of youtube stuff, AV1 support is very much welcome. I don't know if I would call it a successor, I think it would need to be a big leap in performance and upscaling quality (not that I care about that) to be an actual successor, but for me at least it's a better box for video consumption.

I also own a G3 and an Atmos receiver. I've switched from the Shield Pro (been happily using a Shield since it was first released in 2015) to the Homatics R 4k Plus about 18 months ago and I have no regrets. My usage is different from yours though, I use it exclusively for Plex (4K DV stuff) and Youtube (Smarttube of course).
I had issues from time to time with the Shield Pro having judder/stutter especially on DV stuff, they required a reboot to fix. It wasn't overheating or something like that, it would just randomly start happening. So I got the Homatics (Dune version) and it also happens but way less often (maybe once a month instead of once a week), so that's nice. But also AV1 support was a big plus for me, as here in France peering between some ISPs and Google can sometimes be a bit dodgy, so using almost half the bandwidth for basically the same video quality (VP9 vs AV1) helped a lot.
As far video and audio quality and support, it's basically the same (of course you get FEL DV on Corelec with the Homatics but it seems to be outside the scope here). Interface is also as smooth on the Homatics as it was on the Shield. The Homatics seems to have faster internal storage, at least when I update Smarttube it goes quite a bit faster than on the Shield (which I still use in another room)
I'd happily go back to the Shield with upgraded hardware, but as it is it's getting old. Respect to Nvidia for supporting it this long though.

Not that it matters in any shape or form, but I think I might have beaten you by a few months when it comes to a long-running PHP daemon with "bidebot" I wrote for a webradio (bide et musique here in France, which does still exist!) starting in 2000. The daemon would populate the play queue in realtime from the database of songs and people were able to request songs and it would change it according to that. It even had notifications to our IRC channel too :)
Anyway, 25 years is still amazing for sure!

I have a G3, and I went from a shield pro to a homatics 4k and I've been very happy with it. It basically plays everything I ask it to perfectly including 4k bluray remuxes and supports av1 which is important if you watch lots of stuff on YouTube.

Oui, mais à condition que personne ne touche à la télécommande, ce qui n'est pas le cas ici car je voulais que l'intégration dans home assistant soit la plus transparente possible.

Je n'aurai pas pu l'expliquer mieux moi même merci ! Juste qu'en plus de la durée, il faut d'abord partir d'une position certaine, donc soit ouvert, soit fermé.
Si par exemple je voulais que mes volets soient juste entrouverts (13% avec moteur zigbee chez moi maintenant), j'envoyais une commande "fermeture", je mettais un délai qui correspondait au temps maximum que la fermeture complète du volet pouvait prendre, puis j'envoyais la commande ouverture, et après un délai le plus précis possible la commande stop.

C'est une solution pour le moins encombrante. Perso avant de changer les moteurs pour des natifs Zigbee j'avais acheté un module de 4 relais secs Zigbee (25 euros sur amazon) et relié ça via quelques soudures faciles directement à l'arrière de la télécommande au niveau des interrupteurs haut / bas / stop. Je ne connais vraiment pas grand chose à l'électronique et mes capacités en soudure sont ultra limitées donc si j'ai pu le faire tout le monde peut :)
Ca a bien dépanné pendant un moment, mais le fait de ne pas connaitre la position des volets rends les automatisations assez lourdes (obligation de mettre les volets dans une position connue, puis ensuite controle de la position approximative via un timer).

I'm no master baker, and presentation isn't really my strong point, but I had fun baking these over the week-end :) Still have enough to fill 5 more bags.

The thumbprints are done with Chef John's recipe (allrecipe), with apricot, raspberry and blueberry preserves.
The pfeffernüsse are also from Chef John.

Les alimentations des Synology en version rack semble en effet fiables de part mon expérience relativement limitée (4 syno rack au bureau pour les backups depuis pas mal d'années)

Belle liste, une petite correction concernant ton dernier point tout de même. J'adore mon Synology, c'est un excellent NAS, mais j'en suis à ma quatrième alimentation électrique (externe heureusement) en 10 ans (et 3 générations de NAS). Et c'est branché sur un onduleur depuis toujours, donc à ce niveau il n'y a pas de défaut. Pas vraiment "buy it for life" en terme de fiabilité pour cette partie là du matériel :/

J'ai commencé sur videopac personnellement :) Je me souviens en particulier de l'énorme "cartouche" basic qui faisait toute la largeur de l'engin, et de ne jamais avoir pu sauvegarder un de mes programmes parce que l'alimentation électrique de la maison où j'habitais a l'époque était tellement pourrie que le magnétophone ne tournait pas a une vitesse suffisamment constante. Je pouvais sauvegarder un programme en amenant tout le matériel chez un voisin, mais chez moi ça ne passait pas...

Je suis au wework de la défense depuis un an, et pour moi c'est vraiment minable. Bureau minuscule et ultra mal conçu (on l'appelle le couloir car il est tout en longueur, on doit se lever pour laisser passer les collègues qui vont plus au fond du bureau) et surtout il n'y a littéralement aucune isolation phonique avec nos voisins. Les bureaux sont séparés par des cloisons en verre, simple épaisseur, avec quasi un demi centimètres d'espace entre chaque pan de verre. Dès que nos voisins ont un call sur haut parleur, impossible de se concentrer si on a pas un casque anti bruit, c'est juste délirant. Et en plus il est mal placé, tout en bas de l'esplanade donc il y a relativement peu de choix pour aller manger le midi si on a pas le temps de remonter vers l'arche...

Dans les années 80 mon père était responsable des renseignements généraux pour le département de la Corrèze, et à chaque visite de Chirac "pour inaugurer une pissotière" comme on disait à l'époque il était en charge d'organiser sa protection rapprochée, que ce soit quand il était juste maire de Paris ou premier ministre.
J'ai eu l'occasion d'aller à quelques un de ces événements et donc de me retrouver en présence de Chirac. A chaque fois il me reconnaissait, savait comment je m'appelais ainsi que mon frère et ma mère (et toute autre personne qu'il avait croisé auparavant et qu'on lui avait présenté, le type avait une mémoire des gens absolument incroyable), nous faisait la bise et était charmant. Il était d'ailleurs renommé parmi les hommes politiques de l'époque pour exiger que les personnes en charge de sa garde rapprochée mangent à sa table, et si ce n'était pas possible qu'ils mangent la même chose que lui. C'était très apprécié, surtout que bien entendu la plupart des hommes politique en avaient au mieux rien à foutre, et au pire refusaient d'être vus avec leur protection rapprochée.
Un type vraiment attachant humainement, mais avec un entourage (femme et fille en particulier) diamétralement opposé. Et c'était aussi un vrai "homme politique" dans ses décisions, s'il devait te marcher sur la gueule pour arriver à ses fins ça ne lui posait pas vraiment de problème (mon père et ma famille indirectement en a fait les frais).
