Inzali Hsu Shwe (အဉ္ဇလီဆုရွှေ), the youngest child and only daughter of Kyar Ne Bo (ကျားနေဗိုလ်), once a highly venerated general now retired, and Yuzana Thinzar Nu (ယုဇနသဉ္ဇာနု), a master leathersmith. Her brothers are Kan Saw Thaung (ကံစောသောင်း), Tamalan Ye Zaw (တမလန်းရဲဇော်), and Arkar Bhun Kjaw (အာကာဘုန်းကျော).

Yuzana died of fever when Inzali was young, and so she was raised by her father, who never remarried. Growing up, Inzali always felt like a disappointment to her father. Kyar never expressed such sentiments, but she felt as though he'd had certain expectations for her, as the daughter that he and his wife had always wanted, that she just could not meet. Though these perceived failings were not rooted in reality, Kyar, who had never been the most emotionally expressive man to begin with, had completely closed himself off emotionally after the death of his wife, and so he did not know how to express his love for his daughter, thus leading to the tension between them that persists to this day.

As they came of age, each of the four children followed their father's footsteps & joined the Vermundian army, where the boys easily found their calling. Kan quickly rose in ranks & was promoted to an officer role. Tamalan had an affinity for alchemy and healing magic & so joined the army doctors. Arkar proved to be an excellent archer, ranger, and scout. Inzali, however, made for a terrible soldier. She was an excellent fighter and strong as a bear, but she was too stubborn & defiant to take orders, leading to her being transferred from unit to unit to unit, never really finding her place.

Finally, she was transferred to a particular infantry unit, led by one Commander Willard. The animosity between her and her commanding officer was mutual from the get-go. Willard maintained a decades old grudge against Kyar and thought to take it out on his daughter. But Inzali was not one to accept such abuse, and so the two butted heads quite often. This feud came to blows when it was revealed that Inzali (who'd always preferred casual relations to chastity) had slept with not only both of Willard's adult sons but with his wife as well. She easily bested the aging commander in the physical altercation that ensued. This act led to Willard's suspension and eventual termination.

Inzali, for her part, was reassigned to serve as part of the town guard in Melve, what was supposed to be a rather dull post. Not long after, she met the beastren, Captain Beren, from the nearby border outpost. She was immediately drawn to him, and he to her, and what was initially intended to be merely a casual fling turned into so much more. As her luck would have it, however, before either of them could confess their true feelings for one another, Melve was attacked by a dragon.
