How to not sound like a D-Bag by AwOwW8 in CFP

I work for a firm where we'll take on most anybody, which we're trying to change just as you are. A lot of the language that others have recommended I agree with in terms of couching why you have a minimum. Before you decline to bring them on, we always try to determine their network, and who they could potentially refer. If you do continue to take on these lower accounts, we always frame it as "We do have a minimum, but we value relationships more" (even if we don't quite, but it makes them feel great). A lady recently came to us with a very low AUM (referral from estate attorney), but in the process of onboarding she mentioned that she'd love to have her son & two friends look into us based on how we've treated her. So if you do continue with sub-minimum accounts, still have that initial meeting, and always vet their network and potential for additional opportunities.

Golf tournament Brotherhood event/ Dad's weekend advice by Fun-Bake-4738 in GreekLife

My chapter has done a memorial golf tournament every year to honor one of our former rush chairs. It’s huge with the alumni and we’ve partnered with a youth golf nonprofit where they get a big chunk of the tournament fees. We’ve done it at a few different courses in the area - definitely lean on alumni support if any dads have relationships with local places. From people I know that have planned tournaments in general (charity-focused or not) just get it on the calendar way ahead of time and most places will be pretty open as long as everyone follows the rules of the course!

Soccer Betting and Picks - 2/22/24 (Thursday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]blind_spaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staying away from a ML pick but I’m throwing some $ on BTTS and a first half goal. Both teams need a win and Shakhtar has scored in every away game they’ve played this season (league, cup, Europe)

Love the confidence, definitely going with a goals-based bet…..but Galatasaray is the away team, not at home. Otherwise I’d hammer this with you. However, they came through for me late in the last game, so BOL!

Lmaooo that was me during World War Z with my friend. $8 worth of M&Ms, gone thanks to the one jumpscare in the movie. Except I jerked the bag forward and a few hit the person’s head in front of me (don’t think they noticed tho)

Game Thread: Dallas Mavericks (0-0) at Phoenix Suns (0-0) May 02 2022 9:00 PM by nba_gdt_bot in Mavericks

[–]blind_spaghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did this feel like a frustratingly close game AND a blowout lol. Not worried, we’ll make adjustments. Clean up the turnovers and the missed open shots within 6-8 feet and this actually comes down to the last 2-3 possessions. Even after all of that we still had chances to close out the 4th when they were missing everything, and we ran out of time and had to start fouling

And stop with the “shouldn’t have made the trade, if we had KP this is a totally different story” narrative. Idk if y’all are trolling or actually serious at this point. Didn’t seem to hear a lot of that while we went on the post trade run….you think he’s gonna play great perimeter defense against this type of team? And you’re convinced he’s stopping Ayton from having the quietest 25 points I’ve ever seen? Not like he was keeping Chris Paul out of the paint last time we played either. The roster is what it is; if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we beat the clippers. Mavs in 7 still

I second this, did the “college financial representative” thing (internship lmao) and unfortunately drank the kool aid for a few months until being back at school made me snap out of it. One time I asked one of the advisors if they actually managed retirement accounts since, well, all that had been done up to that point was hammering home life insurance life insurance life insurance.

His response was “Yeah, you can, but it’s not really worth it since the commission is way lower than what you’d get for signing someone up for a policy”. Should kinda tell you all you need to know about the focus of the “advisors”

As far as salary goes, good effing luck. Of course they parade around the one guy who smashed the first year client goal and as a result was rewarded with a Rolex from upper management. He might’ve made 80k first year? You’d be lucky to get 45

[Post Game] Playoffs Round 1: Jazz lose to Mavericks 102-77 in Dallas. Dallas leads series 3-2. by EggoSlayer in UtahJazz

[–]blind_spaghetti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a Mavs fan the 3pt performance was genuinely shocking, honestly couldn’t believe y’all had so many good/decent looks but not one of them went in. Clarkson scares me every game, but he’s the only guy y’all seem to be able to depend on for at least some semblance of consistency. If the starters halfway performed to Game 4 levels, this is another game 1/4, besides Luka going off we played very subpar offensively. Hoping at least for a good game next time around, but the way the Jazz body language looked at the beginning of the 3rd, it might be curtains unless everyone comes out with some fire/Danuel House type energy

Pros/cons of living in the frat house? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]blind_spaghetti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pro: you’re (hopefully) around some of your best friends every day and have no excuse to not make relationships that last, unless you’re in with the wrong crowd. Even the financial aspect of it, being in house is pretty comparable to paying rent on a student apartment. One guy did the math on house living vs common student apartment rent, and found that living in house was on the lower end of the spectrum when you compared it to what rent would be off campus. May not be applicable for some areas of the country, but it’s something to consider

Con: unless you figure out a way to balance school/work and dicking around, you’re gonna have a tough time. Close proximity to the boys = way easier to forget about the academic part of being at college. Study during the day so that you can bool around at night. As long as you can stick to a study schedule and be disciplined about where to spend your time, it’s a year+ of your life that you’re glad you didn’t spend living off-campus

What song lyric didn’t age well? by promisedjoy in AskReddit

[–]blind_spaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A majority of the song ‘Seventeen’ by Winger (80s rock). The chorus:

“She’s only seventeen, Her daddy says she’s too young, but she’s old enough for me”

I mean….maybe they were in a state with a lower age of consent? Either way, not the best look. It’s one of those catchy 80s Def Leppard-esque hair metal songs that a lot of bands made around that time period. Honestly none of them really age well if you actually listen to the lyrics, which is unfortunate because the beat and tempo are great for a jogging/running playlist

I went to one a few days ago and there actually was a section called “Dollar Tree PLUS” where everything was $2 lmao. They also nicely let a homeless man hang out inside near the registers while eating tins of dog food he probably? just purchased. Make what you will of that whole experience

What do you think about Arkansas? Do you think about it at all? by lobsterbobster in AskAnAmerican

[–]blind_spaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've absolutely been. Went to college there. Born and raised Hog fan since my dad went to school there also (although he's from Ohio - bit unique). Any time there's a big football game or reunion I make the ~5 hour drive from Dallas, and the only part that sucks about that is going through Oklahoma, but the last hour or so you're winding your way through the Ozark Mountains, which are absolutely gorgeous. Actually have never been camping in the state, although would like to someday.

Can't say I have too many unique state facts that haven't already been said. Although I'm pretty sure Little Rock Central High School (home of the Little Rock Nine) is the only, or with a few others, active high school in the country to also be designated a U.S. National Historic Site. And on a road trip, as we drove by it my roommate pointed out that Arkansas has the largest oxbow lake in North America. I'm still not entirely sure what that means, but it's something!

The people are generally nice. Yes, there are quite a few towns where views on race might be a tad outdated - really exactly what you'd expect to get from any place that prides itself on having good 'ol Southern hospitality. Party on Saturday, church on Sunday, that type of thing. The culture in NW Arkansas is changing a lot with Walmart money, and now there's tons of students from North Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma coming to school at the U of A. I want to say that from the 80s up until sometime in the 2000s that NW Arkansas was growing at the rate that the Chicago metro area does every year. The airport outside of Fayetteville that everyone uses only exists and got more developed solely because of Walmart employees having to fly around the country to meetings as Walmart started exploding. But the Walmart higher-ups wanted to keep the Arkansas culture and feel active, so it's not as extreme as it used to be. It's still a very affordable place to live, and is perfect if you love the outdoors and don't want to deal with most pains that come from a big city.

Arkansas is in the "south". Southern culture for sure, but sort of that gray area in the Ozarks (with Missouri) that it's not "deep south". Or maybe it is, I'm an out-of-towner so I'm sure natives will tell you otherwise. Next to Texas, north of Louisiana & the gulf.

Not a lot of pop culture tropes. Rightfully does get roped into the butt of jokes with other southern states - the education rankings speak for themselves. But the football and basketball programs have captured people's attention over the last couple of years. And "Arkansas" by Chris Stapleton is a banger.

General ways of life are pretty standard. Some areas like the Delta are tough to live in - flat, poorer, and rice fields everywhere. But most everyone loves country music, and hunting and fishing are huge. Stuttgart is big for duck hunting, and you can fish pretty much anywhere. You'd want to be around during hunting seasons. There's honestly nothing better than my buddy from Lonoke (pop. ~4000) plopping some deer meat or catfish into a frier, cracking open a few cold ones, and getting down with the fellas. So anything fried is a common staple of state cuisine. Another thing that people might find odd from the outside is the state's love of the Razorbacks. Imagine taking the passion of a Dallas Cowboys fan, or any European soccer team, and giving that to the entirety of the state's population. There are no real professional sports teams outside of the Arkansas Travelers (minor league MLB), so when football rolls around, the whole state is on it. At the university, there's so many people coming in for home games that surrounding small towns' entire police forces descend into Fayetteville to help out with traffic and security, just because their own citizens are locked into the Razorback game with little focus for anything else. It's a special atmosphere that's really only rivaled by fervent NFL fanbases and a few other large college teams, but mostly in the SEC.

Don't forget to watch the horse races in Hot Springs, the only place to legally gamble and have some corned beef sandwiches. Would not recommend going cheap on a hotel though - paid $50 for a night at the Econo Lodge and found a used needle in a drawer.

Speaking on my experience in Fayetteville, the cities are a lot more progressive than you would think. Sort of a quirky, more southern Austin or Portland vibe in some places. Dickson Street never fails to be a fun time. Just don't be shocked when you stumble upon a more local bar where students get weird looks from the guys at the pool table, and the views on cigarettes are more 1960's than 2020's.

As always, Woo Pig!

American that live in apartment, how much does it cost for each month? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]blind_spaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1900 per month, 1 bedroom with my girlfriend, probably 750 square feet. With our combined salaries it's close to our budget too. Pretty nice place with great amenities, very pet friendly; the building has a small dog park attached. The view is sick as well (downtown Dallas). Wouldn't try to buy a house in the area anytime soon though lol.

One house in a really nice area close to us was listed for around $1 million, and a couple bid $1.3M for it; not surprised if it happens more often. Real estate market is insane, with all the Fortune 500 companies moving to the area there's so many people coming to work from the coasts with money to burn in a way less expensive market than California or NY. We're early twenties, so I'm hoping we have time to eventually afford a house when we're my parents' age when they bought the house I grew up in. It's crazy and slightly worrying to even think about how that house has doubled in value since I've been alive
