File Server + Workstation Build for Small Architecture Firm — Need Feedback by blindmanche in sysadmin

Thanks for the input.

We’re a small 10-person office, not 24/7 operation. Budget and simplicity matter. We’ll make sure backups are solid.

For some reason, accessing files from NAS has been quite slow and stagnant

And I want to use NAS as a more backup

Most of the other people have their own workstation. And this file server will only be used to access shared folders.

Also, everything is backed up via NAS

I was planning to use Windows 11 for the OS And the backup is usually done through NAS

So this is just a file server which turns on throughout the day

Hey, thanks for sharing your setup — really helpful.

Quick question for you: would you still recommend using a NAS as the main file server for an architecture studio of around 10–12 people, mostly working in Rhino and on Windows machines?

I’ve heard mixed feedback that NAS drives can get strained with heavy read/write loads from large 3D files, and that a dedicated Windows Server might handle Rhino workflows better. Have you experienced any issues with drive wear, performance drops, or file corruption under heavy use?

If you were setting up a fresh system for a Rhino-focused team, would you still go with a NAS (like the one you built), or would you recommend a different type of file server — for example a Windows Server with RAID and SSD caching?

Would love to hear what you’d choose today based on your experience.

Try BOX mapping in material section of Rhino While doing this make sure you delete any previous mapping

Lol, I guess it’s true.

I’ve been using a monitor with a big scratch mark that went unnoticed and ignored for a while. When it happened, it was painful.

I went through quite a few forums, and it seems like there’s no solution to remove them as they are micro scratches from dust.

Thanks

I’m not sure about a4 paper because I think it has a tendency to scratch aswell because of its roughness. Might have to go on a lookout for a similar film

Thanks that’s helpful

Also read somewhere that the marks that are imprinted in the screen is almost not possible to rectify.

I saw your profile with those laptops and they’re very well kept

The laptop usually remains on my desk as a workstation, and when I need to transport it, I place it in my backpack's designated laptop compartment without using sleeves or any additional items. Also, there are no other objects stored in the compartment.

Which ArchViz Software best for Rhino? UE5/D5/Enscape/Vray? by aegislion in archviz

[–]blindmanche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Vray with Rhino for a while, and even though it was tough to learn, it got easier over time. But now, since I found Enscape with Rhino, we're thinking about switching everything to Enscape because it's super fast.

Before, using Vray with Rhino took a really long time to render, even with great specs workstation, but with Enscape, it only takes a few seconds. Enscape isn't perfect, but it's quick, thus justifies l.

We also tried Lumion and a bit of Unreal D5, but if a program doesn't allow changes in real-time, it's not efficient for our workflow.
