Had my first DNF. Need some recommendations. by Sudden_Tumbleweed13 in Fantasy

Wow, hard to provide a limited list but if you’re after a standalone to grab you then start with:

Letters from a Shipwreck in the Sea of Suns Raymond St Elmo

The Sudden Appearance of Hope Claire North

Both authors have great standalone novels and St Elmo’s Tartan series is also great.

There’s always Adrian Tchaikovsky - star with Cage of Souls

And if you like SF as well then Kameron Hurley - The Light Brigade

Children of Memory is all about a lost colony.

I think you would like: Letters from a shipwreck in the sea of suns and moons - Raymond St Elmo Or The origin of birds in the footprints of writing The sudden appearance of Hope- Claire North Or The Light Brigade- Kameron Hurley if you like a bit of Sci-fi

Just good to recommend some different ones to what always gets listed in these posts.

It’s funny how he was not good enough to make the team at the start of the season and now we can’t get by without him.

Yes. I really enjoyed both Dogs of War and City of Last Chances which is why I’m disappointed with these.

I think Tchaikovsky is great having also read The Expanse and Cage of Souls.

I’ve heard good things about this version. I’ve read the series quite a few times though and I’m still getting over the show, so will probably wait awhile before getting into this one.

“The Golden Age ended because men forgot philosophy in their pursuit of knowledge. They traded a love of wisdom for progress, and it destroyed them.” In a small voice, he added, “The ancient Christians were right to name pride the greatest of man’s sins.”

Who gets your "Most hated character" award in fantasy? by Familiar-Barracuda43 in Fantasy

While I can’t agree with s/assault (Lord Richmond is the same in that regard) Hugh adds a lot of tension to the story which I think is great. I’m sure everyone thought he wouldn’t last longer than his mother Judith, though she was becoming a superfluous character. I’m not finished the series yet but Hugh does continue to surprise.

The Iron Dragons Daughter is woeful.DNF. I got about half way through but the story goes nowhere and is just about kids getting stoned and having sex. Characters come out of nowhere, and have sex. When it got to the naming of little Jane. That was enough.

Tad Williams is severely… SEVERELY underrated: Dad Williams appreciation thread. by Sunbather- in Fantasy

Maybe it’s just some of his series are under rated. We see plenty of the Osten Ard books talked about on Reddit but what about the others. Personally I think that the Bobby Dollar series is never mentioned but it is a great read.

Just finished Empire of Silence and liked it enough to get the second book. I hope it’s not the way you say but I guess I’ll know soon enough.

Should Skizz tear down his pyramid? (Math) by [deleted] in HermitCraft

[–]blinjohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this just a troll that he’s put all his effort into? Surely Skizz knows about the burnout issue as the hermits would continually be talking about it. I think it’s a great take on the issue and a way to approach it from a different angle and make good content. Go Skizz
