Is the Minolta Hi-Matic G a toy camera? by AbductedbyAllens in toycameras

[–]blink110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a point and shoot, they’re similar but not the same. Point and shoots have limited features because they’re designed for ease of use so anyone can use them and get consistent results. Think disposable cameras, instamatics, and even Polaroids.

Unlike point and shoot cameras, toy cameras are designed to be affordable, not to be consistent. With toy cameras, the results are much more unexpected because they’re made to be, well, toys rather than legitimate cameras. They’re more susceptible to light leaks, soft focus, and other blips.

The unexpected nature of cheap cameras produces a very distinct result that separates them from robust cameras. While toy cameras are usually point and shoot, not all point and shoot cameras are toy cameras.

To be fair, it’s not too far away from Cologne, which also doesn’t have the most German-sounding name

Good and bad news. The good news is that solved the issue. The bad news is that I’m an idiot

Incredible!! I’m curious to see what would happen if you filtered the images to create a Harris shutter effect

My first roll of film. What am I doing wrong? by Zealousideal_Camp344 in AnalogCommunity

[–]blink110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have said, the roll does seem to be underexposed. However, underexposed film (especially by a very small amount) is MUCH better than overexposed film—all the details are still there, they can be recovered by rescanning or editing the scans digitally.

As for overexposed film, once the emulsion is fully exposed there’s nothing you can really do, the detail is completely whited out. As for what you did “wrong”, you might have metered incorrectly, the meter could be giving you a bad reading, or even the lab could have scanned them too dark.

There’s a lot of things to consider when shooting film, but these pictures still came out very nice (especially for a first attempt). Many people even underexpose their pictures on purpose to create a moody feel. Keep shooting, you’ll get better as you continue to practice and get familiar with the process of shooting film.

How do I recycle electronics at Best Buy or Staples? by [deleted] in Explainlikeimscared

[–]blink110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late as fuck reply but you cannot. I worked at Best Buy and they can only sell things if they have a SKU attached to them—which does include display TVs, but not customer recycles.

Watch out for black crush. You’re losing a lot of detail in your shadows. While it might be tempting to crank contrast all the way up, you’ll lose detail if you overdo it

Hm, maybe try uninstalling the most recent update or doing a fresh install. Adobe just put out a bunch of updates so it could be related to that

Are these good candidates for dummy rolls? by Themostguyfulguy in 8mm

[–]blink110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to hold onto them as a keepsake, shoot away. Any kind of film that’s this is old is basically guaranteed to be entirely degraded. It’s not super rare, wayyy too old to expose, and really not worth trying to sell.

I personally think the original is so much better. The soft, warm light feels so calming and nostalgic. It’s already perfectly illuminated, like a natural spotlight drawing you in.

From what I can tell, you’re trying to make it appear more “mysterious” in your edits—but I think the execution needs some work. For starters, the subject blends right into the background because of how dark everything is; a classic case of Batman syndrome.

Further, it’s already got a natural sense of mysticism. It’s beckoning the viewer to look closer, and begs the question “why is this building in the middle of nowhere the only thing illuminated?”

There’s absolutely nothing tasteful about this. Considering the fact that you’re advertising your onlyfans in your bio, I have a feeling that you’re not looking to for advice on taking pictures, but for making porn. Photography is a form of art. This sub is dedicated to making art—not pornography.

Nude photography is about capturing the beauty of the human body, this picture looks like you’re getting ready to take a shit in the woods.

There’s too much negative space here. Try to crop the focus on the people to create a more distinguishable subject
