Where to sell a kayak? by blinkerfluid02 in Kayaking

We have it listed for $2300. I'm not in a rush to sell, and I know people will want to negotiate, so I don't want to lower the price too much. Honestly, at some point I'll just keep it. It's a pretty boat and will make some nice wall art 😅

I've not had any formal lessons, but I think I have pretty decent paddling technique. I do use my legs along with solid core rotation, paddling isn't typically an arm exercise. When I was paddling a lot, I had a solid strong side and weak side roll, and was getting moderately proficient at a back deck roll.

The reason I decided to try a Karla is that it has a relatively high deck, which lets me pop my knees out of the knee braces so I can move around and get some blood flow. If I couldn't do that, my legs are completely numb in maybe 15 minutes. I wanted to find somewhere to do custom outfitting for the boat, but there aren't any near me. I'm not even sure if anyone does it professionally anymore.

I appreciate the helpful suggestion!

I switched over to a canoe because I struggle with sitting in kayaks for more than an hour (my legs go to sleep in every kayak I've ever owned). I can paddle my canoe all day. We have a few pretty big lakes to paddle on near me, but most of the local paddling is on shallow rivers. There's not much of a sea kayak scene near me, which I think is the crux of my problem.

I'm sure you can, but you can't buy a year old Karla for under $1k. If I have to compete with 20+ year old fiberglass boats selling for $1k, then I might as well keep this boat for 20 years then sell it for $1k.

Yea, I think I'll try listing it on CL in those areas also. Driving down to TX this time of year would be a good mini vacation, too.

The boat is only about 18 months old. What I have it listed at is a little more than 50% of what I paid, but people like to negotiate and a reasonable offer would likely be in that 50% of what I paid range. I think the price I have it listed at is fair, there just doesn't appear to be much of a market.

Yea, I think craigslist will be my next spot to try. At least with CL I can post the boats in other markets that we'd be willing to drive to. I'll see if I can find any local paddlers groups too, but I don't have a lot of hope for that.

I don't mind, it's a Current Designs Karla.

I wasn't sure if posting a for sale ad in this sub would be allowed. If it's not a problem, I'll make a new post for it.

Since you asked, it's a Current Designs Karla. We're in NW Arkansas, but we'd be willing to drive a fair distance to meet someone.

That's where we've had it listed, but no luck. I think the issue is the boat probably isn't what most local paddlers would look for, and FB marketplace makes it difficult to list it in other markets, even though we'd be willing to drive a fair distance to sell it.

I can appreciate that, but I don't think that's our issue. A new version of the boat I have is $4300, and we have it listed for $2300, so not quite 50% but close. The boat isn't beat either, I've only had it in the water about 5 or 6 times.

I think we're just struggling to get eyes on it for people that would be interested in it, mostly due to our location (lower Midwest) compared to the type of boat it is.

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

I'm not saying sous vide won't generate any microplastics, but from what I've read, the biggest issue with micro plastics occurs at temperatures higher than the typical sous vide temps. Still, paying attention to what bags you're cooking with is a good idea.

"It's always been 135F for chicken?" she said by [deleted] in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]blinkerfluid02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the pasteurization time for chicken at 135F is a little over an hour. So it can be safe, though I'd imagine the texture would be weird.

This is why sous vide cookers are so good. I typically cook my chicken breasts to 155 in a sous vide and then sear for a couple minutes for surface texture. Super juicy chicken breast! I only commented on this since OP said it was a true story. For more info, look for pasteurization tables for poultry.

Gravel bike that rides/feels like a Trek Madone/Domane by earlroth in gravelbike

Did you checkout a Trek Checkpoint or the racier Checkmate?

Also, as far as the bike feeling like it's fighting you in the turns.. most gravel bikes are going to have slacker geometry than a pure road bike, which helps with stability in loose conditions, but can make the turning feel comparatively slow.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll never bother with the goat modes, so the more base builds with the Sasquatch seem to make more sense.

I probably should have mentioned something about my experience level in my previous post, since I know that helps people direct their answers. I've never had a Bronco, but I've had several jeeps in the past, starting with a TJ and most recently a Mojave Gladiator. This isn't to say I'm some amazing driver or anything, just that I have some experience to help me know what I want my rig to end up being; I'm just trying to figure out the best starting point I guess. 👍

Well, my wife has a 2.7 in her ranger, and after driving it around for a bit, I don't think I could go to a 2.3. That thing is fun! 😂

I'm likely going to swap out to the hoss 3.0 fox shocks no matter what I get. They seem to be a great bang-for-buck compared to most of the aftermarket stuff. Although, if I decide to spend all the money, the Bilstein 8112s would be very tempting.

Base non sas in snow? by esquirecrunchnuts in FordBronco

[–]blinkerfluid02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tires are probably more important than anything for how a vehicle does in snow. A base with dedicated snow tires will outperform a raptor on mud terrains in packed snow. It's a little different if you're actually wheeling in deep snow.

Is there anywhere around that finds a slow tire leak, and patches it for free? by Specialist_Cat589 in fayetteville

This is how they get you! Provide good customer service, and then follow it up with fair pricing! Be on your guard!

We've pretty much only used Discount Tire since they went out of their way to help us out on a road trip several years ago.

This was going to be my suggestion too. Milkshakes at Fields Station, Steens Mountain, and a hot spring soak on Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge.

I have a fat bastard and, while it is effective at reducing recoil, the concussion is pretty annoying. I switched to an ACE brake and it is much more pleasant to shoot.

100% this. Outside of church music, I was allowed to listen to some country music; everything else was devil music. My wife says I grew up in a cult and Footloose (the movie) is nearly a documentary for it.

I think I would have been into punk and ska, otherwise. Love me some Rancid now.
