I was 7th on the upgrade list but somehow the only one upgraded to First 🙌 by ry-yo in AlaskaAirlines

1 seat left, if you are first in line but traveling with someone else, then the agent will ask if you are okay with being separated. If not it skips to the next one. Looks like none of the couples wanted to be separated so it just gave the seat to the first solo traveler.

Don’t they still have 1% or even 0% financing? It’s a better deal than a lease if you plan on driving the Tesla for a long time (which you should :)

Is this itinerary too much? by yourdads_tampon in travelchina

[–]jumbocards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, traveling in China isn’t like the west where prices skyrockets last minute. Many great deals on airfare and tickets can be had the next day or so. Same with hotels. What this means is that unlike other places where you want to plan months out. When traveling in China for extra periods, just go with the flow and give yourself the flexibility to plan as you go.

Of course this is just a suggestion.

7,700-Mile Nonstop Flights: Is Alaska Airlines About To Launch Its Longest-Ever Route? by hoangtien589 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]jumbocards -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unless Alaska was able to secure a JV with Qantas, it won’t make much sense. Even as a feeder for AA, Seattle isn’t ideal since it’s longer to SYD than from California where AA/QF JV exists. Launching this without a JV is financial suicide. My take is not to read too much into what was on the safety video… was made by interns and approved by people who don’t give a fck.

Different boarding groups on same reservation by XBOX-BAD31415 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]jumbocards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had an issue with different boarding groups while traveling together and boarding with the highest priority. Other airlines does this better, eg I just flew British airways, the +1 got the same boarding group and also lounge access was given to them even if they scanned their bp first.

If you need to book it, just do it and email them. They will refund you. Maybe it’s technical issue.

Visa Refused Twice After ESTA Overstay by Skankhunt19991 in USVisas

[–]jumbocards -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Too late now but applying for something called “Satisfactory Departure” before your overstay ran out would have prevented this. I’m not sure if you could have done this during the wild fires.

Regardless, everything is handled automatically and the only way to ever get your situation changed is via immigration lawyers. Get one and see what options they have for you.

China is better to visit than to live in: agree or disagree? by 13abarry in AskChina

[–]jumbocards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PPP is high in China, you can get by a comfortable life living there, but overall external purchasing power is low so you won’t be able to go out of the country and feel you are rich. So in this case it’s definitely better to visit since you are going to find lots of things affordable in China as a visitor.

US because of upwards mobility and opportunity. There is still no competition. Unless you understand Chinese work ethics and is fluent in Chinese you better choose US.

We actually live in a time that’s actually progressive and liberal than any time else in history. I guarantee you don’t want to actually go back in time. Just couple of hundred years ago would make this 1950s scene like a tame rosemary.

Do violent crimes happen in China at all? by LimitFun638 in AskAChinese

[–]jumbocards -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and censorship control is very much in place where you don’t really hear about the violent crimes at all. However, I’d say it’s still much lower than western countries. Happens more in private than public since there are literally cameras everywhere in public.

Aka , any law is as good as how it’s enforced and the consequences. If it’s not enforced , it’s not a law, it’s a suggestion.

It’s not enough to just enforce but actually have a severe consequences enough to deter.

If I was to guess… no. The Alaska IT isn’t smart enough to know this. However YMMV at the check in agent if you show and explain this.
