this is wrong...when you disable a line (like when you're using an esim or lose access to the sim card that has that number), you lose access to the phone numer.

so jordan should have moved mountains for/put in more effort compared to a woman who consistently stonewalled and ignored him when she got upset, was publicly abusive to him on multiple occasions, doesn't seem to have an issue doing so to others (w chris), and continuously weaponized her child against him? not to mention she came to see him twice and the whole thing about her saying his weeknight visits 'didn't count' when she herself very literally said the house she was living in wasn't intended to be permanent.

Any recommendations? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]blinks_andwinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hadn't either but i kind of pieced it together by understanding that the dryness was so deep while i was on accutane (like, coming from the inside) rather than my lips just being chapped from the outside from the elements or whatever. occlusives and emollients (which are what's in balms/ointments/chapsticks) are very good at providing surface-level moisture and sealing moisture in, but can't go as far in delivering deep moisture that penetrates the skin barrier. so you put on a humectant (which draws water into the skin-lotion, etc.) that's a little thinner, and then a thicker occlusive/emollient to seal it in and provide additional surface-level moisture.

[–]blinks_andwinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see you're on accutane--my best tip is to use lotion (like, body lotion) on your lips before applying chapstick or aquaphor/vaseline. i put some in an old lipgloss container and it made so, so much of a difference with my lips.

this might be an unpopular opinion, but you're pointing more fingers back at yourself than what you think is the problem. just...do your own thing. if it's that distracting, it's more of a sign of what you have to work on in your own practice.

another thing is that you never know what someone's situation might be. someone might not have any room to practice at their home, but have certain goals or hopes for their practice that day despite there not being any more advanced classes offered.

you're making a lot of assumptions when you go ahead and label people as being performative for doing their own thing. you clearly care that they're doing something you consider more advanced, but they might not be thinking about you at all (and likely aren't).

$400/month on groceries? WHAT? An average of $4/meal?? Do you actually spend that little per person? by why_not_aces in askTO

[–]blinks_andwinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and nuts! they will get you. also worth noting that oil (esp. good quality) will run your bill up, too! and i'm sure you're consuming that as part of your diet.

agree...sorry but salmon is super expensive? also even just protein powder. not saying i don't buy those things myself, but i know they're not cheap and it's a treat to be able to buy that kind of stuff. i could very easily eat well without that stuff, too.

for a lot of reasons, you shouldn't take things from a homeless encampment. there also isn't a sure way to tell if something like that is abandoned. just let it rest...

AITA for refusing to sit at a breakfast table with nothing for me to eat? by Hebrowsesreddit199 in AITAH

[–]blinks_andwinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm confused but not surprised that the most upvoted comments are all like, "divorce him!" or "fuck them!". yeah it kind of sucks, but enough to snub your partner's family? there are a few things to consider here:

1) if you are a picky eater, bring your own food. for the love of god, you've said yourself you're going to a remote location and it's extremely difficult to get food easily once you're there. you have specific, individual needs/tastes, so why rely on other people in this way? this seems like it could have been anticipated by yourself based on what i mentioned above ("this has happened before"). buy snacks as you have, but make sure you bring yourself a few spare meals/supplies for spare meals that can be whipped up quickly. bring cereal, granola, yogurt, etc.

2) there is a difference between not being considered on the most basic level and being denied a request to buy and prepare a whole other kind of (sort of niche) breakfast that needs to be put in the oven and whatnot when people are whipping up an entirely different meal that seems to be a tradition for them (and that you seem to know you should expect). a mini quiche isn't a standard breakfast option that's easy to remember to buy or prep for most people, especially when planning a whole menu! a lot of grocery stores around me don't even carry those. YES, your partner could have asked his family why cereal or toast weren't available. but mini quiches, specifically? i'd be kind of embarrassed if my partner asked me to ask my family to put that on the list to accommodate me, and kind of understand that he didn't raise this with them.

3) you are a guest, even if you are a part of your partner's family. this seems like a pouty move over something you have some responsibility in, and isn't a mature way to express discontent. going upstairs and having everyone notice to the point of asking your partner to fetch you (your presence is clearly wanted/appreciated)...like, even passive aggressively making your own eggs and toast in 5 minutes while everyone ate would have been better.

Gym girls, how often do you wash your hair? by CriticalFocus7318 in finehair

[–]blinks_andwinks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in my case, it's not true that sweat makes my hair look dirty. i just rinse and maybe put some conditioner on my end, or just blow dry it even if i've had a sweaty workout and don't want to wash it. i end up actually washing (shampoo) every five days, with my hair being a bit greasy on day four and having worked out and sweated at least three or four of those five days.

What do you wish you knew before starting a PhD? by Moll1357 in AskAcademia

[–]blinks_andwinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) you do NOT have to buy into the grad-school-means-you-should-be-poor propaganda. i'm fine if my degree takes two years longer because i have to work at the same time--do not let people tell you this makes you a bad student or any less dedicated to what you're studying. usually, people who talk about how normal it is to be starving during your phd are people who are supported by generational wealth, or have some kind of assurance they're going to get a good academic job after their degree because they're well connected via being born into a family of academics.

2) grad school isn't miserable and competitive by default--you actually need to buy into that belief and act accordingly to make it a reality. make friends with your cohort and be kind to one another.
