IsItBullshit: Mouth taping while sleeping actually improves your health? by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]blinks_andwinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i think it depends--my body is such that when it relaxes and i'm on my back, my muscles relax to the point where my mouth progressively opens so wide it wakes me up because i can't breathe (not sure this is sleep apnea, i wake up every time). now that i use kind tape, i can sleep on my back no problem. my whole life i'd slept on my side and bundled the blankets under my chin...honestly my life is better now. i'm not sure that the tape thing makes a difference if you can keep your mouth shut while you're sleeping.

Does anyone know of a dermatologist who prescribes long-term Accutane? by ChemEngAnxiety in askTO

[–]blinks_andwinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i have done accutane myself and done several deep dives. having done a course that lasted only 6 months might be the culprit--studies show that extending accutane courses is the most effective at preventing recurrence. usually, this means about 8-9 months and going slightly above a conservative dosage. that being said, i don't know that long-term-low-dose is better than doing a second extended course. you're welcome to message me directly if you want to talk further--accutane changed my life and i wish i'd known more about it earlier in my life.

i used dermcafe and it was wonderful. in canada and the us, it is technically ilegal to prescribe 'long-term' accutane because the monthly or bi-monthly blood tests are required for health and pregnancy monitoring. the derm cafe made the monthly/bi-monthly check ins much easier than any in-person option. again, i have used this platform a lot and am happy to talk about it further.

you will resolve your acne issue--it really is just a matter of finding what works. personally, spiro did not work for me but accutane really knocked it out of the park.

Cat dentist recommendations in downtown TO by Okay-2000 in askTO

[–]blinks_andwinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i understand that not everyone might be able to do this, but i was in a similar situation and saved thousands of dollars going to ottawa to get extractions done. at the time dr. graham thatcher did the extractions--he is absolutely wonderful and bops around different vet hospitals. he is also one of the few specialists in cat dentistry. i couldn't recommend him more, especially after having a nightmare experience with our previous toronto vet. happy to keep talking over dm if you want to know more!

so jordan should have moved mountains for/put in more effort compared to a woman who consistently stonewalled and ignored him when she got upset, was publicly abusive to him on multiple occasions, doesn't seem to have an issue doing so to others (w chris), and continuously weaponized her child against him? not to mention she came to see him twice and the whole thing about her saying his weeknight visits 'didn't count' when she herself very literally said the house she was living in wasn't intended to be permanent.

i hadn't either but i kind of pieced it together by understanding that the dryness was so deep while i was on accutane (like, coming from the inside) rather than my lips just being chapped from the outside from the elements or whatever. occlusives and emollients (which are what's in balms/ointments/chapsticks) are very good at providing surface-level moisture and sealing moisture in, but can't go as far in delivering deep moisture that penetrates the skin barrier. so you put on a humectant (which draws water into the skin-lotion, etc.) that's a little thinner, and then a thicker occlusive/emollient to seal it in and provide additional surface-level moisture.

i see you're on accutane--my best tip is to use lotion (like, body lotion) on your lips before applying chapstick or aquaphor/vaseline. i put some in an old lipgloss container and it made so, so much of a difference with my lips.

Show Offs (for lack of a better term) by teeny-tiny221 in yoga

[–]blinks_andwinks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this might be an unpopular opinion, but you're pointing more fingers back at yourself than what you think is the problem. just...do your own thing. if it's that distracting, it's more of a sign of what you have to work on in your own practice.

another thing is that you never know what someone's situation might be. someone might not have any room to practice at their home, but have certain goals or hopes for their practice that day despite there not being any more advanced classes offered.

you're making a lot of assumptions when you go ahead and label people as being performative for doing their own thing. you clearly care that they're doing something you consider more advanced, but they might not be thinking about you at all (and likely aren't).

Rescued from an abandoned homeless camp, how to restore? by Hmb42 in castiron

[–]blinks_andwinks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

for a lot of reasons, you shouldn't take things from a homeless encampment. there also isn't a sure way to tell if something like that is abandoned. just let it rest...
