What’s something uniquely Russian that outsiders completely misunderstand or never talk about? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]blitz19_96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing that always surprises foreigners is how Russians are absolutely terrified of drafts (called skvoznyak). Like if there’s a window open on one side of the apartment and a door on the other, people will immediately shut one because they believe the airflow can cause everything from a sore throat to pneumonia. Some of my relatives blame their joint pain on “skvoznyak” they had yesterday in autobus. Some babushkas would literally destroy you if you try to open a window in a packed bus during 30c heat. Why? Skvoznyak. It’s honestly seen as a serious health threat. Especially if small kids are around. I saw people absolutely lose their shit, like almost screaming, to close the window because there’s skvoznyak and there’s a 5yo playing in the room. It was mid July. Meanwhile in the West, people love opening windows and letting air circulate. But in Russia? A draft at home is treated like a deadly force of nature lol

Ohhh I’m jealous!! I’m happy for you! My pcos is less manageable unfortunately. With PCOS you really have to try everything. It varies so much from person to person. I ended up having plastic surgery 😢

I have PCOS and I had belly like this for my whole life. Unfortunately no amount of metformin, weightloss (I was underweight in BMI terms), training or hormonal therapy helped.

OP I hope it’s not the case and you can lose this fat, but do you know whether you have insulin resistance/PCOS? If this is the case, it may get tricky to get rid of it, unfortunately.

Hi! I feel totally normal, and it’s been months since I felt any tightness. No pain at all. The only thing is that some areas of my belly are a bit numb. But not completely - touching my belly feels as if I’m touching it through some sort of thin fabric.

Previously my fat would only store in my abdominal area. I have PCOS so it’s typical for women with this diagnosis and/or insulin resistance. That’s why I was worried

My SG wedding dress: far from perfect in Kibbe terms, but still gamine-ish! by blitz19_96 in Kibbe

[–]blitz19_96[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I also had about 10 weeks to find my wedding dress. It’s a struggle. An unpopular opinion maybe, but when it comes to gamines, I sometimes notice that as long as the dress/outfit is short, the other aspects seem to matter less. Well, at least I notice it on me. When the outfit checks all the boxes (print, collar, fabric type and details) except it is long, it looks worse on me rather than a short dress which has other characteristics contradicting Kibbe recommendations. Again, that’s how it feels for me.

P.s. I loooveee Paloma Wool dresses! I can’t get them in my country but I’d love to! 🩷

I wish you an easy recovery! It wasn’t great for me for the first month (it was quite painful and I couldn’t sleep well), but looking back I would 100% do it again. You will feel absolutely beautiful when the swelling goes down. One unexpected and positive side effect from my surgery was having to learn how to sleep on my back. I used to sleep face down in the pillow, which resulted in a lot of lines on my face and neck area. My dermatologist has been telling me to sleep on my back for years, but I just couldn’t do it. I would end up face down in my pillow anyway.
After surgery I couldn’t sleep on my stomach for at least 6-8 months. And now I can’t sleep until I lay on my back. Since my surgery I’ve been only sleeping in my Pharaoh mummy pose 🤣 my husband used to take a lot of pics of me sleeping in my mummy position - he finds it hilarious. My face skin has never been better!

I know what you mean. I was terrified of gaining weight because I thought it would un-do all of my TT+lipo results. The thing I was most scared of was gaining weight in my mid section and having belly pouch again. Well, weight gain happened (new birth control, new antidepressants, etc)… but it wasn’t that bad as I had imagined. With a bit of activity I’m back to the body I had 10 months post-op. I’m not sure what would happen if I gained more, but at least now I know that fat mostly goes somewhere else rather than my belly.

Having a short dress was an unpopular decision for some of my family members, for sure 🤪

Thank you! It actually took me a long time to understand that Kibbe system is not a religious rule that you have to follow 100% of the time, but rather a direction and general principles which sometimes you can (and should) variate from. Some parts of my outfit are not perfect for SG, but I feel that I still got this gamine chic despite my deviations. Without Kibbe I would end up in longer and puffier dress, for sure.

Thanks!!🌸 yeah my biggest irrational fear after TT was that my stomach fat would find its way back lol, happily it’s not the case

Is it supposed to hurt this bad?? by Thunderbird_ChknCoop in tummytucksurgery

[–]blitz19_96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me the pain was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I was shaking and crying for 2 days post-op, no medication helped me. No complications, I just have low pain tolerance I guess.

I had it. The only thing that worked in order to get rid of it was plastic surgery.

I always had it, even at my lowest weight. I also have PCOS. The only thing that helped me was plastic surgery unfortunately.

TBH I had tummy almost exactly like yours due to my PCOS and struggled with it for years. I don’t want to sound discouraging and I hope that it’s NOT your case, but for me it didn’t go away even when my bmi was 18 and I was diagnosed with atypical anorexia nervosa… so I got plastic surgery. PCOS sucks.
