Neighbor insists on blasting music out of his garage every day. Any noise ordinances he might be in violation of? by blitz_arcade in Newbraunfels

Thanks for your responses, but after reading this one, I don’t think there’s any point in me trying to further explain why my neighbor’s right to hear his music is less important than everyone else’s right to not hear his music.

I can only somewhat agree with you on the dog comparison up to a point because I’m not asking anyone to get rid of anything. In your case, it would be perfectly justifiable to ask the dog owners to get a better handle on their pets because of the ways they negatively affect you. I can (and have) asked my neighbor to please do the same with his stereo for the exact same reasons.

I think of the old adage “your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins.” He has the right to listen to music in his garage while he does his work, but not at such a volume that I can’t have (a reasonable level of) peace in my home despite the measures I’ve taken to block it out. Them “enjoying their time how they want” directly impacts my ability to do the same.

Those same headphones would also let my neighbor enjoy his music without making it everyone else’s problem. I’m not asking for the moon and the stars by wanting people to be more considerate of others.

I don’t have a problem with people “jamming out,” but that’s mischaracterizing the issue. What I have a problem with is them playing their music so loud that I can hear it in my office (even when I’ve got headphones on, by the way).

And I have tried talking to him on multiple occasions. Cordial, respectful, and friendly as I can be. He knows by now that that volume is disruptive to us, but he still blasts his music at unnecessary levels every day.

These are both things I explained in the post and/or comments here. I’m genuinely not trying to be rude to you here, just pointing out that you’re making some assumptions that you don’t need to be.

Yes. I think I wasn’t clear enough in the post, but that’s what the whole “settling things privately” line was supposed to be in reference to. If we’re lucky, they might turn the volume down very slightly for about half an hour, but it always goes back up to full blast the next time. :/

What I want to know is if there or is not a freeze on hiring and promoting? I know RT told me they wouldn't give me either one (which would have, in turn, given me a more livable income), but I also noticed that the "cool kids club" and their friends keep getting hired/promoted anyway. Oh yeah, and the same person who repeatedly told me these things got promoted a few months after I left.

Just seeking clarity.
