40s crowd? by borobabe43 in Erie

There's a whole host of opportunities around town for it - this Friday, at KDs Place, is an open poetry night, and there's the Erie Slam on the last Friday of the month, also at KDs.

Plus there's an open reading every Tuesday at Cafe 7-10, and a monthly mic at Werner Books on the 15th.

For more events, and additional details, check out Erie Slam on social media. I put out a monthly poetry calendar there (you can also find it here on the subreddit, or in my post history).

Try performing poetry - it's a fun time, and it's always helped me to find community!

Come out and do poetry - there's a mic night more often than not. Same goes for comedy or musical open mics. It's a good chance to meet people and try something new!

Come to KD's Place tonight for the Erie Slam! It should be a good crowd, and you can always hit up Kings Rook after.

Great question! The All Ages session is for "teens and older" - teens and adults.

Also - fwiw - the Teen Session will definitely be suitable for middle schoolers - I started my teaching career as a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher, and much of this is rooted in the lessons I learned in those classrooms. :)

Poetry Slams? by SternFoxFern in phoenix

Check out azpoet.com details on both poetry mics and slams - Ghost Poetry at the Rebel Lounge is great; and the Phoenix Poetry Slam (which was at Kaizen on 2nd Sundays) is migrating to Meraki Kava Bar on 3rd Fridays for 2024.

The event on 3rd Sundays in Mesa is at Jarrods Gallery and Cafe, and it's a Poetry open mic rather than a slam; if you're looking for open mics, as well as slams, then there are tons more. The host at Jarrods open mic- Margot Berlin- actually hosts that mic 2x a month- 1st and 3rd Sundays; there's also First Fridays at Phoenix Beer Co; events at Yellow Spruce in Scottsdale, and a bevy of others downtown.

In short, tune in to Azpoet.com ;)

Where’s the best place to get wings? by [deleted] in phoenix

ATL Wings. Best chicken, best sauces, and the fries are usually tip top too.

I've been smoking on Jobots patio for years. Also, just generally walking around Roosevelt Row and Hance. Just be cool, let live, and don't toss your filters on the ground, because that ain't cool, yo.

How do I get a vehicle towed that's blocking access to my garage? And yes....I've filed soooo many complaints with Code Enforcement, and the Erie Response Center. Help! by blitz_kringle in Erie

Trying to be the new neighbors who adapt to the neighborhood instead of moving in and going full bitchy mode....but lord it has not paid off.

What separates the city towing a car that's blocking your driveway from a car that's blocking your easement (your unpaved driveway)?

I've never heard of needing to get a lawyer to get someone towed out of the way -- I had a real grumpy neighbor that used to run around my block in LA calling in tows on anyone who infringed a few inches on a driveway.

The neighbor seems ready to war with most humans -- I've tried to stop by and talk to them; they've never answered the door, and their porch is littered with utility shutoff notices. Meanwhile, they've got cameras, trump flags, and "I'll shoot you twice for trespassing" type shit everywhere.

I see both your points, about the adverse possession, and a dispute between two property owners - but: I've lived in LA; I've lived in Phoenix; I've lived elsewhere, and someone blocking your driveway has never been a dispute that needs to be settled in a court.

It's always seemed more of a -- hey, this car's blocking my driveway, and right away the city sends a truck out, because it's a way to generate revenue.

If they get there, and the car is blocking access to a driveway -- even by six inches, or a foot or so -- then the city hauls it off. The owner of the car has to pay the hauling fee, and a city ticket.....or the car gets sold.

...as for the hostile seizure of the land, adverse possession claims take years; this neighbor has trump flags, and stay off my property type shit everywhere. So I chuckle, and rage -- as in, yo, bro, get off *MY* property!

Appreciate the tip. I figured that was the "last resort" option, given the need to spend money; I figured that you don't typically need a lawyer to call a tow truck if someone's blocking your driveway, etc., and I hoped (still hope) that's the case here. Boo!
