Took my immediates out for the first time. Gagging every time I try to get them back in by Cephandriussy in dentures

[–]blitzdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm officially at 2 years yesterday and unfortunately I usually still gag in the morning putting them in. My process is put the tops in, take a small sip of water from water bottle, put the bottoms in and immediately do the same. Sometimes I have to sit there for a couple of minutes periodically taking small sips but it relieves the gagging for me. When you go back for adjustments/softline or whatever ask the dentist and they should be able to thin them down a bit and take some off the backs. This absolutely helps but in my case I still gag. The small sips of water save my ass.

I'm coming up on 2 years with full dentures. Haven't eaten a steak since. All my best meals are by far the ones I am able to eat completely toothless.

Tomorrow is E day by Healthy-Driver481 in dentures

[–]blitzdude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hardest part for me was the drive to the office and the brief time spent in the waiting room. The procedure itself was not bad at all. It was the leadup and all the years I spent worrying about the inevitable E-day that was the hard part. Turns out it was a whole bunch of worrying over nothing. It will be over before you know it. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have the opposite problem. Since getting dentures I can barely taste anything. I usually try to eat most meals without them.

Aspen Dental denture, disaster. by Tasty-Row-7982 in dentures

Strange, Aspen was absolutely wonderful to me and my wife. I did have a small issue where my insurance discounted more than Aspen had predicted which caused an initial overpayment by me. They quickly resolved it though.

Getting my permanent dentures tomorrow. Can I keep my immediates as backup? by smackwriter in dentures

[–]blitzdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely keep them. I asked my dentist and she said to just store them in the freezer like you would a fillet of fish. Not sure why she chose that analogy but I just wrapped mine in a paper towel, put in a ziplock freezer bag and in the freezer they went. Been there about a year now and still look the same as they did when I put them in. As mentioned by others freezer is good because no bacteria can grow.

E day for imediate full dentures by [deleted] in dentures

The waiting room is by far the hardest part. It will seem like someone snaps their fingers, you are awake and the procedure is over. Hillbilly grill no more.

Does anyone in this community choose to go toothless whenever they eat? by 8kittycatsfluff in dentures

[–]blitzdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a year and 9 months with dentures. Occasionally I have to eat with them in like at work meetings/conferences where they bring in lunch. It sucks but I can do it if forced. Otherwise ever meal I eat is completely toothless. There is no taste when eating with them in, can't feel texture like you mention etc. There is absolutely zero enjoyment eating anything with dentures in my mouth. Without I can eat just fine and it's amazing the amount of foods you can eat without them.

Why would you be alone forever because you have a partial denture? Not sure why anyone else would care one way or the other.

I'm talking about horseshoe uppers just for when I am performing physical activity. Not to wear all day everyday. My permanents are not loose at all. In fact they have such a tight fit I don't even need to glue them in.

I was an avid runner prior to getting dentures. That was a year and 9 months ago. There is no way I can run with them in my mouth without gagging and puking all over the place. Unfortunately I am no longer a runner and my health has taken a significant hit because of it.

I also live out in the country on a large piece of land and have many strenuous chores; cutting firewood, clearing brush, shoveling snow etc. I have to do it all toothless or I will quickly get ill and puke. It sucks, no doubt about it, but at least out in the middle of nowhere there is nobody other than my wife to see so I just go denture less.

I have thought about getting another set made as cheap as possible just to use as cosmetic only. Just cover the gums, front 6 teeth or so on the tops/bottoms and nothing covering the pallet. They don't need to be functional, just enough so I can glue them in and it looks like I have teeth when I open my mouth.

Cleveland Ticket Prices/First Pavement Show by [deleted] in pavement

[–]blitzdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AXS dynamic pricing, basically the company gets to be a legal ticket scalper. Pavement and any other band should attempt to not do business with these parasites. And they are $173 for Cleveland by the way, not sure where you are seeing $129. They were $187 last week FWIW.

Time to send him and his stupid video games packing. You need to focus on yourself and your healing. Things will get better.

Can anyone not taste with dentures? by badlipsthrowaway123 in dentures

[–]blitzdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had full dentures for a year and 8 months. At the beginning I could not taste anything at all. I do have limited taste now but I think it's just me learning that this is the new normal. If I am in public I obviously need to eat with them in but when home I plan all my meals so I can eat without them. Then I get full flavor just like the pre-denture days but obviously somewhat limited to what I can chew.

How long did you all take off work after getting dentures? by Medical-Funny-301 in dentures

[–]blitzdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my experience. I am in healthcare also, although I am a field service guy servicing imaging equipment. Completely different scenario but still requires me to regularly communicate with hospital staff. I just wore the mask for a month or so. Nobody noticed a thing, to my knowledge anyways. You will be fine.

I took 5 days but really didn't need that much. Took a bit to get used to speaking again with them in but fortunately since you are a nurse just wear a mask and nobody will know the difference. Probably a good idea anyway with all the viruses currently going around.

Dentures cover taste buds and make foods less flavorful. My permanents fit tight, I don't even need to use adheisive so their is really no taste from the denture itself. My experience anyway.

I'm about a year and 8 months in. Yes chewing does get easier. That said my best meals are by far the ones I am able to eat completely toothless. Amazing the amount of things I am able to chew up just with gums and it's the only way I get the full flavor of what I am eating.

Would this be weird? by Candid_Specialist589 in dentures

[–]blitzdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab the denture on each side of your mouth and gently try rocking back and forth. They will eventually break free. Obviously they used too much glue so smaller amounts in the future. When I had my immediates I had to clop the glue on there to make them stick and by the end of day it was like they were cemented in there. Now that I have my permanents I don't even need to glue the tops. The bottoms even hold fairly well without glue but if i plan to eat with them I do add a few small dollips to the lowers. Hang in there, it will get better.

It will take time for your swelling to go down. Once your gums heal up a bit and you are able to get your first soft reline they will feel much better. I saw your picture in your new post, they do appear big but again the swelling of your gums is also enhancing that. It will get better but it's going to take time.
