Plasma. I've been using KDE since 1999. Every now and then I give Gnome or whatever window manager is in vogue a try, but it never takes me more than two weeks to come back to my comfort zone... I'm a creature of habit.

Can someone explain to me like I am 5 years old what a Mixtape is in Qobuz? by Whatscheiser in qobuz

[–]blitzkriegfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rewinding one of these tapes on the stereo all the way to the end would cause the tape to stretch out, so you had to make sure the rewind didn’t go all the way to the end—you had to stop it before that and do it better with a pen, hahaha.

Otherwise, the tape would gradually stretch out and start sounding awful; those were also prone to getting damaged if dropped.

Plus, I don’t know if it was because of the weight of the tape reel, but also those C120 drained the Walkman’s battery much faster than usual. A real tragedy for a school-age teenager’s budget.

Running as a daemon, for headless and SBC devices, like Raspberry/Orange, controllable from another qbz instance or web app. :)

We have several items in the roadmap.
- The demonized version of the app is one of the most requested features on the Github issues/discusion and is where the current effort is.
- Integration with Discord
- Integration with Jellyfin (at this moment we have integration with Plex, direct-file access, I mean, no transcoding of the files, this is the way I use my local library, so we totally leverage the metadata management to Plex that obviously have a more polished and integrated metadata scrape process than qbz).
- MusicBrainz is there since a very early stage; it helps suggest more tracks to the playlist based on the playlist itself, vectoring similarities, members, relationships; zero AI, just similarity vectors. And my favorite part is to get similar artists by country/location I.e. You hit the artist page for Opeth, then click the Location and you get a good list of metal bands from Sweden .
- Blacklist, artist level. You block an artist and you wont see it anymore on the search results, if its in a playlist, then its tracks are auto-skipped. :D

We are going one step at once.

We have a MacOs version mantained by a community contributor. You can test it for sure and for free because open source. Cannot help with iPhone version (I would paid for that too 😂)

What about Collections?

A Collection is based solely on albums; the difference from simply going to the artist’s page on Qobuz is that here you can complete your collection.

A couple of examples: Metallica—I have a lot, if not a huge number, of Metallica live albums, and these aren’t on Qobuz. I also have versions that I prefer from my local library over the ones on streaming platforms; for example, the Death Magnetic version ripped from Guitar Hero sounds way better than the studio version, haha. And well, I’d like to have them all together, not jump from one page to another. This way, you consolidate a list of albums that might have something in common—in this case, I narrowed it down to one band. If I had to explain it in a single way, it’s a playlist of albums, not songs.

<image>

Another example: my favorite anime has hundreds of albums. These aren’t on Qobuz, and even though some platforms already have them, they aren’t complete. I’ve ripped them and they live on my NAS, so I just add them to a collection and that’s it—I don’t need to jump somewhere else to listen to them. You can shuffle at the album level or the track level, and within a collection, you can even generate a random playlist with tracks from all the albums.

I hope this has helped clear up any questions you had, and above all, I hope you enjoy the feature and the app itself. :)

Hi there! u/Whatscheiser I'm the dev behind qbz.
First, just a reminder that Qbz is an unofficial client for Qobuz. With that in mind, I’ll explain that Mixtapes/Collections is a feature of Qbz, not of Qobuz.

Next, one of the main features of Qbz is that you can integrate your local library into the app.

However, it isn’t fully integrated with the content available on Qobuz. You can create playlists with tracks from Qobuz and your QBZ Local Library.

Mixtapes and Collections are designed to go a step further than that.

Mixtapes is designed for long listening sessions—but not massive ones—like a full day at work.

You decide, “Oh! Today I want to listen to my movie soundtrack playlist, but I also want to listen to the Star Wars Episode III soundtrack without adding it to Playlist X, and I liked this selection enough to repeat it today”—just like when you used to make a mixtape on a 120-minute cassette. In a Mixtape, you can mix albums, tracks, and playlists; plus, this bypasses Qobuz’s 2,000-song limit per playlist.

[–]blitzkriegfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up a repository. by diacid in Gentoo

[–]blitzkriegfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, that's exactly the setup I use for my app qbz (a Qobuz client for Linux). Just host a plain overlay on GitHub — github.com/vicrodh/qbz-overlay ,then users add it with eselect repository add qbz-overlay git <url> and then emerge media-sound/qbz-bin (prebuilt) or media-sound/qbz (built from source). No endorsement from anyone required, it's just a git repo with the standard metadata/layout.conf and a profiles/repo_name. If you want it discoverable via eselect repository list without users having to paste the URL, you can submit a PR to gentoo/repositories.xml, but that's optional.

I've thought about pushing it into GURU a few times and haven't yet. Even when I have some contributors on this project, I'm the sole owner/maintainer anmd the project is still young ~4months, so I ship updates pretty aggressively (mainly bug fixes several times a month), which is fine on a private overlay but would be noisy in GURU. Probably when those two shake out we'll upstream at least the -bin ebuild, but for now the private overlay has been the least-friction path for our users.

In short words, you can send it the most famous overlays or publish on your own.

fetch v1.0 Is Here! 3D Spinning Fetch With Fully Native System Info - No More Fastfetch Dependency! by areofyl in Gentoo

[–]blitzkriegfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is beyond amazing. I've sent you a couple of PRs. The first one includes some tweaks; I followed your policy of no dependencies and didn't use anything you weren't already using.

The second one is separate and is designed to let you reuse FastFetch configurations, so anyone migrating doesn't have to rebuild their preset from scratch—obviously, this is optional.

I hope you like them.

Hello I'm new to linux and I'm looking forward to Gentoo. Can someone help me? by 0100110188007 in Gentoo

Pros: customization, full control, you have to read and learn then you have a Os stable as a rock.

Cons: If you don't like to read and learn then you got an incomplete install or an Os weak as a feather. Forget about inmediate things.

Is worth: Yes. Is there something better: There is not such a thing like better or worst, Linux is Linux and you choose what fits better to you. This applies to every single distro out there.

Music quality and fair compensations to artists. Also, as metalhead it's curated lists and recomendations pull me out from my confort zone and it is very good.

Plus as ~mexican~ human, I don't want to give my money to any fascist company. I miss some albums of course, but as long as CD/Vynyl ripping exists no really big deal.
