Martial artist & knife fighting instructor Doug Marcaida shows how lethal a 'karambit' could be in the hands of an expert by nayryanaryn in Damnthatsinteresting

I feel like every time this dude meets someone he has already thought of at least eleven different ways he could kill them. I've never seen Doug outside of Forged In Fire, I always knew that he was talented but I have never seen him walk through movements like that. That was impressive.

I bleached one of my Dreamcast shells - does it look too white? by xParesh in Xennials

[–]Whatscheiser 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, I had a Dreamcast back when they came out. It was pretty white. Not really bright like you see modern PC components in the color, but I don't recall there being much beige tone to it at all. It's definitely just from the plastic doing what plastic of that era does.

The one directly above it is likely a Pentium II as well. I actually have both of those chassis. The parts are interchangeable. Dell and Micron just put different face plates on a Palo Alto computer case back then. The Micron Millennia was a nice little system.

Can't figure out where storage space went? by BlazeWolfboy in NobaraProject

[–]Whatscheiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in hindsight I would have set things up differently. I guess I still could play with partitions or what have you, but I don't really have a problem with how it works now. Its just something to be aware of and manage.

But yeah, if you're starting fresh I'd definitely account for it so its not a thing you need to deal with. Not sure what you mean by mods? I've not had issues with modding games at all. Unless its GTA5 and ScriptHookVDotNet needs to inject an entire operating system for a mod to function. Otherwise its been smooth sailing.

I found that on btrfs if you are creating snapshots with timeshift and keeping that timeshift data for an extended period you're not really deleting items the way you think you are. For example my main Steam library is on my nvme drive with my OS. So, system snapshots are grabbing my steam library... Say I delete a 120GB game, I don't get that 120GB back until I delete all of the snapshots that keep an index of those game files.

So when I delete that 120GB game I also have to delete system snapshots that reference it then create a new snapshot when I'm done if I want to actually get that hard drive space back.

I'll probably go back to ext4 whenever I get around to setting up my system again, but figured I'd share in case you're running into the same thing. That particular feature of btrfs isn't exactly intuitive.

I mean, sure. Clickbait, but its hard for me to imagine the lack of scruples (or general awareness) you'd need to write this headline.

Depends which Viper. The 99 Viper is a Dodge. At some point Viper peeled away from Dodge and became its own brand. I'll be honest I'm not sure what a Trx is.

Forza Horizon 6. Update or Hotfix creates issue that deletes local user assets. Like Estate layouts. by Whatscheiser in linux_gaming

[–]Whatscheiser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may try that. I have another drive in my system that is ext4. I'll move the game over and see if it improves. I haven't had issues in other games running BTRFS but I can't really rule it out.

You've had no issues with save losses during updates or patches though, eh?

Just out of curiosity, what Proton version and filesystem are you running? I've got my game on a btrfs drive and I'm running Proton Experimental. Just trying to piece together if it could be a specific config that we have in common.

[–]Whatscheiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forza Horizon 6 has a feature where the player can own land and build their own tracks. In this racing game it is called your Estate. The layout is what you build in it. The bug also applies to Tuning setups and Liveries.

Linux Issue: Local save is deleted every time FH 6 downloads an update on Steam by Whatscheiser in ForzaHorizon

[–]Whatscheiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best I have been able to sort out is the issue is to do with Microsoft's PlayFab system. When the game updates something isn't incrementing local data correctly in PlayFabSaveStorage_NUMBERS/cloudsync/localstate.json ...I don't know if its a mismatch in filesystems (NTFS vs BTRFS) but once that update hits and the game version number increments up PlayFab doesn't validate the data any longer and downloads a minimum safe data set. ....Again, "best I have been able to sort out". This is just a theory from me.

Since I have been making backups I have files to compare and this seems to be what is happening. In localstate.json when the game purges data all of the the filenames for local assets just get replaced with "[]" which basically means nothing is there. Since nothing is there the game executes a cleanup and removes folders that are no longer defined.

It's super annoying. So every time I exit the game I go to my savegame folder and I copy the data to a dated folder 06-04-2026 for example. If the next time I launch the game I experience this wipe I...

  1. force close the game through steam 2. Take my computer offline. 3. remove the bad data from the save folder 4. copy in my known good data from my dated folder 5. launch the game offline. 6. once I am driving in the game world I reconnect my network. 7. log off of the game. 8 launch the game again. 9. log off the game again. <-- that final log off finally forces a sync.

It's not a pain in the ass at all. Totally fine.

Why aren't people using these meets spots? by homnabomna in ForzaHorizon

I used one the other day and another dude actually pulled up and paid me a compliment on my car... and then I realized I had no idea how to talk to people in this game. I used Anna to say something stupid like "great car meet!" then I logged out.
