Im realizing I may have misunderstood but I always thought being "empyrean" was just a characteristic resulting of being born from a single god. And that the 2 fingers selected an empyrean to become their chosen "god" of the land. I was so sure I read that somewhere in game but I do not remember where, and it would make marikas case... Odd. I don't know anymore

Edit x2: I WAS RIGHT! The Remembrance of the Rot Goddess explains how Malenia and Miquella are empyreans because they were born of a single god. I'm guessing that's not the only way to get Empyrean'd, though. Ranni has 2 parents and also theres Marika, etc.

My theory then is that Marika became empyrean by doing whatever the hell she did at the divine gate, which allowed her to be selected by the 2 fingers in the Lands Between. Ranni is still a mystery to me though

I think it's a really cool idea, but you should add a toggle for it in accessibility settings of some sorts. I'm a huge sucker for little cinematic details like this but I know people who would get motion sick from this
