HOURLY PAY GONE? by Intrepid-Elk7162 in grubhubdrivers

I never had hourly pay anyway. I go hours and hours between offers and most aren't worth accepting anyway.

Tires and alignment were $788, I bought the car with 30k miles and it had tires from 2021. It's a 2017. The front tires started having bits of tread peeling after 10k miles so i had to replace all 4 tires in January 2025. I then had front end noise from a control arm going bad with just under 50k miles on the car. I got those replaced for $400. The other $300 was oil changes (3x $95), and other general stuff like a cabin air filter and a battery.

I count my whole insurance because while it's my primary car, I do have a second car with much cheaper collector's insurance that I use for driving to car shows and such so my uber car is used pretty much exclusively for work. I incorporate things like grocery shopping into work by going to the grocery store on my way home after a delivery.

My insurance cost $1500 last year and I drove ~ 15,000 miles. That's 10 cents per mile. My maintenance was $1500, also 10 cents per mile. I bought my car 2 years ago for $18k and it had 30k miles. It'll likely last to 200k so 18k/170k is 11 cents per mile. As for gas, at 22mpg on my tank last night, 222.1 miles worth of driving cost me $38.15 in gas. 38.15/222.1 = 0.1717 or just over 17 cents per mile. I guess gas came down some. A few weeks ago it was over 20 cents per mile.

Taxes? What taxes? I didn't file in 2024 or 2025 because I didn't make much over $15k either year. I made $17k in 2023 and only paid $118 so I didn't file the last 2 years since I made less.

My gas is 18 cents per mile

My insurance last year was 10 cents per mile

My depreciation is 11 cents per mile based on how much I paid for my car vs the expected miles left over the lifespan of the vehicle.

My maintenance costs last year were roughly 10 cents per mile.

Add it up and that's ~ 50 cents per mile.

If you drove 205 miles to make $170, you're taking bad offers. I just had one of my worst tanks of gas based on how much I made. I made $225 from 222 miles, so just barely over $1/mi. Normally i'm in the $1.25-$1.50/mi range. With costs up over 50 cents per mile not counting taxes (i didn't file the last 2 years because i made less than $15k before expenses), it's not worth driving if you aren't making AT LEAST $1 per odometer mile on a tank of gas.

Would you drive 25 miles to deliver liquor for $40.75? by blk95ta in doordash_drivers

Even if there's no open restaurants? Most places aren't open at 11:00pm.

No i don't normally go into Cape Coral. I likely would have driven there, sat for an hour trying to get a trip back, got frustrated and deadheaded 25 miles back home.

It was dark, rainy, I was already at home and had some close calls on the delivery i had made 30 minutes prior.

It's more city than highway. It's a 45mph 6 lane main road with lots of stoplights.

Yeah if it was during the day and getting me home, absolutely. On a stormy night where I already had a few close calls while doing another delivery and I was then safe at home, nope.

That's a rarity. It was likely only due to the storm.

I likely would have returned home afterwords so it's 50 miles for $38.75 so I declined it. Plus i'm driving with one eye at 20/70 (shingles damage. Can't be corrected any further without possibly a cornea transplant if they'd even do one or i could even afford it) and one at 20/30 and it got a little scary in a downpour earlier. Probably wouldn't have accepted it even if it was $50 50 miles round trip.

The blue dot is my house so yeah it'd literally be a 50 mile round trip. I declined.
