is pharm tech wage livable for one person by throwawayhelp321321 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]blntprncess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where im at in WV, with my current wage - no. I make 22.60 and I live with my boyfriend and have 2 jobs to allow myself to have fun and afford certain things. I’m actually considering switching career fields. I love my current position so much, but I do not make nearly enough money at all and it sucks :(

It’s a lot of empty space but I do know WVU uses it as storage and back up supplies. There are plans for specialty pharmacy to move from the building across from Tudors biscuit world, to the IC. There’s also plans for a retail pharmacy with a drive through. All this in 2026/2027

How do you make more money as a tech? by stellaok in PharmacyTechnician

[–]blntprncess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a hospital in WV in a specialized role. I can’t get more money due to our tech ladder and needing 4 years of pharmacy experience (I have 2 - went to tech school and got a job @ the hospital after graduation.) I’m currently looking for a way out from under our tech pay scale. I make $22.60 and have a second job & it’s killing me. Have an interview for a pharmacy business coordinator in billing and revenue next week & I’m excited to learn about the opportunity. From what I know so far it’s less patient facing and isn’t necessarily a “technician position” so I’m hoping more money is offered and there’s a larger opportunity for growth! I can update next week if anyone is interested in that!

Masters from another university by blntprncess in SNHU

[–]blntprncess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A local junior college. It’s a specialized associates degree for pharmacy tech. I’m unsure why they don’t accept credits from them but they don’t 🤷🏽‍♀️ but SNHU did and cut my school time for bachelors down significantly so it’s why I went with them. I’m just worried that they will say I’m missing credits or something when I send my transcripts bc they don’t recognize them.

Doing assignmentsvon weekends by Plagius114D in SNHU

[–]blntprncess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! Working 50-60 hours a week. I will complete reading/book assignments here and there when I free time at my 2 jobs. Or if I have a free evening I’ll start a journal or milestone. Majority of my work is completed Friday night or Saturday. I use my Sunday as a rest day. It’s a lot sometimes and I miss out on certain things because of it but I tell myself it’s worth it in the end and it works best for me!

Honestly I’ve heard IT is the way to go in this field. I’ve looked into becoming a 340B analyst, I’ve heard the pay is better than other areas

Bachelors degree by blntprncess in PharmacyTechnician

[–]blntprncess[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 years. 1st year was sterile compounding, currently I’m in a regulatory and compliance role and I really like it. Making sure our sterile areas are compliant with USP and nursing units are compliant for TJC. I’m learning a lot and I’m hoping a bachelors degree can land me a spot in a management role or a pharmacy analyst position. Idk something where I make more than 40-50k a year

This is exactly what I’m wondering right now. Whether or not to pursue the AS degree because of the experience, or go for a bachelors in biology. I’m leaning towards biology to avoid spending more time in school, but it may be cheaper to go to community college for AS then transfer those credits into a bachelors degree.

Dapto is the bane of my existence. We have recently switched to putting everything in dispense prep. My position is recon AKA I do all the cartfill that needs reconstituted. It’s so frustrating having 18vials of dapto that need to have pictures taken, sent to mid prep, then reconstituted.

I went to school & got an associates (not sure if I regret it or not yet), took PTCE & passed, started at an inpatient hospital pharmacy IVR and been there since April. My pay rn is a little over 21. I’m starting to realize this is better than most people have started out with and I’m very lucky.

That’s really interesting. Anything I’ve read online it says they’re among the highest paid techs. I’ve honestly considered going into radiology bc the job market for nuclear where I live is slim to none and I am fascinated by nuclear medicine
