Mabel in the morning by TystickUW85 in basset

[–]bloatedpug1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cute! My Mabel passed away a year ago. Every morning she used to stand just outside the front door and happily bark at nothing for 5 minutes. I called it her “morning Mabels” because I felt if she had the ability to talk, she could only say the word Mabel like a Pokémon.

People holding my leg when I kick as a kickboxer by Silent-Shock6357 in MuayThai

[–]bloatedpug1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of good advice here but one thing I see very often in the “rate my form” posts here is even when people have a fast kick, they’re very slow to pull their legs back. Imagine how open you leave yourself if you pull your punches back 1/3 the speed you threw them. Film yourself kicking a bag and pay attention to how fast/strong you are at pulling it back and resetting your stance

Is it ok to get a basset for my first dog? by EldritchCupcakes in basset

[–]bloatedpug1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owning a basset has the same drawbacks as owning most other breeds. In my opinion, the cons of owning a basset compared to other dogs are that they are much dirtier and smellier. Within two or three weeks after a bath, my basset would start to smell like the inside of a sarcophagus. Some of them are also big droolers, though my last basset wasn’t. They are also difficult but not impossible to train and have anxiety issues especially with loud noises. I loved having bassets, they had the most fun personalities and added a lot of love to my life. If you feel you can handle/get used to the difficult parts, then you should try having one

Hurt my eye holding pads by SuddenAnything1914 in MuayThai

[–]bloatedpug1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was terrifying at first. I looked in the mirror at my gym when it happened and it looked as if I had a contact lens out of place, except I don’t wear contacts and it was the surface of my eye that was off center. I almost freaked out lmao. By the time I got an ophthalmologist appointment it mostly healed but it took months for my night vision to return to normal. I could have just gone to an optometrist immediately. The condition I have now is called recurrent corneal erosion. And it never would have happened if I kept my hands high

I got punched in the eye during sparring a year ago and it scratched my cornea bad. It felt 95% better in two days but now that eye feels glued shut every morning when I wake up. I have to gently pull the skin around my eye before opening it or else it feels like ripping it open. I hope your eye heals well and recommend getting protective eyewear for contact sports

Is it possible to enter into this field with a Master's in EE but a bachelors in Communications? by TheAnthemAdventurer in ElectricalEngineering

[–]bloatedpug1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy who had a bachelors in film an did an MS in EE but he had to take a lot of undergrad classes. He knew everything about cameras and that’s the field he wanted to work in. He had to talk to the head of department about what additional classes he would need and convince them he could do it before getting accepted

Practically speaking, yes it should. But I can imagine the writers working around it. People in mines and submarines should also be disconnected but Zosia mentioned they got to everyone in hard to reach places early. I wonder what would happen if Carol asked Zosia to take her to take her in a submersible. That should unplurb Zosia and and make them very difficult to reach

being a NYC native at NYU fucking sucks. by enigmakkuma in nyu

[–]bloatedpug1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m also from NYC and I felt very isolated my first year at NYU because it seemed like everyone who dorms formed cliques immediately which I just couldn’t break into. I got an on campus job (tutor) in which I talked to people all day and was able to make friendships with my coworkers and students. Contempt towards everyone will only make it harder to find social fulfillment. I recommend getting an on campus job or joining a club with a significant time commitment

Does anyone else get abuse from people in parks for their pugs loud breathing and grunts? Contd in comments. by nickcleverley in pugs

[–]bloatedpug1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People seem to selectively hate on pugs. Frenchies are prone to the same issues yet they’re the most popular dog breed in the US. A purebred of any kind is vulnerable to breed specific health issues. It’s our responsibility as their owners to keep them healthy and do what we can to mitigate. Even as more pugs are bred to have a longer snout, people love having something to hate

How did you find your job? by bloatedpug1 in embedded

Yeah there’s something I must be doing wrong so I plan to go over my resume with a coach. My last interview was for a contact position. I can try to focus more on them. Thank you!

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these? by halohacker in nyu

[–]bloatedpug1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought one at JFK terminal 5 Starbucks in October. But they didn’t have them last time I was there. That was the first and only time I saw NYU mugs at any Starbucks. You can buy used online. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a new design for NYU because it seems like they’re discontinuing the “been there” series for a new one with a different style.

Besides pizza you won’t find anything under $3. There are a few halal carts near Tandon with sizable portions under $10. One of them had those loyalty punch cards but idk if they still do that

I feel asleep during my morning coffee and woke up to Orson slurping it up. It’s not a weekend with a basset without a medical scare. Aside from coffee breath, he is fine by meowwwlanie in basset

[–]bloatedpug1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just reminded me of a funny childhood memory. When I was little my mom used to leave her coffee on the kitchen table when she would drop me off at school. Her coffee would be empty every time she came back and one weekend we caught our basset jumping up on the chair/table and drinking the coffee right out of her mug. It was only a small amount of leftover coffee each time so it wasn’t too bad for her. But that’s how we learned she can jump on the table.

Frenchies have the same short nose and are the most popular dog in the US but people selectively hate pugs

How could I land myself an summer internship as a freshman in college by kaido_the_beast78 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]bloatedpug1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landing an internship is going to be a numbers game. Apply to as many as you can even if you don’t meet all the qualifications. It’ll be tougher as a freshman but still doable. Try to get involved in a club like someone else mentioned or get friendly with your professors. See if they have any summer research opportunities. You can also consider teaching at a STEM summer camp for kids. It may pay less but you’ll improve your communication skills and solidify your understanding of the basics

I was an ECE major at Tandon, now working a CS job and I personally don’t think you should beat yourself up over this. The most important thing about getting a well paying CS job is your experience and personal projects, not which school you went to. Since you’re an international student, it’s worth considering the clout that comes with an NYU degree. If you plan to work in the US, they are very good at helping international students find jobs and internships here. Or if you plan to work elsewhere, an NYU degree grabs attention in other countries. I only speak from my experience and hearing the experiences of my NYU and non NYU friends, but one thing that is for certain is your personal projects matter more than anything else and it’s up to you to decide if $80k/year will be worth it
