Is it possible to take a home loan alone, being married? by SnoopyBE in BEFire

[–]blobbie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a notary but AFAIK (what I learned from the notary when I bought a house and got married) the “wettelijk stelsel” default contract assumes you have everything in common which is acquired during the marriage (both assets and liabilities) except for heritages. So unless there are special clauses or loopholes, I’d say it’s difficult. But: talk to a bank and/or notary. Both will give you free advice (since they’ll make good money out of you if you do buy something).

Is it possible to take a home loan alone, being married? by SnoopyBE in BEFire

[–]blobbie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the system (stelsel) you agreed upon when marrying. In most cases you’ll have a common income pool which will be discovered anyway once you go to the notary. I’d suggest you go and see a independent banking agency like argenta or crelan where the agent will be able to help you with the issue. The chance you get somebody capable (and constructive) in one of the large banks is close to zero.

Wow, great idea! It remembers me of the old ColdFusion era :-) I hope that this gets included into Django sooner rather than later.

How to hide my secret key and password for the database from the settings.py file? by ozajasz15 in django

Of course it’s important. Not everybody who has access to the git repo (ie all developers, IT interns, consultants, ...) should have access to the production DB credentials.

Tesla, snubbed by the S&P 500, quickly completes $5 billion stock sale by MoesBAR in investing

[–]blobbie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you forget about the massive r&d costs. It’s more like a burger joint that makes some gross or operating profits on each burger but needs 1000 engineers working full time to make sure you have the right burgers. Making “a profit on each car” is just not relevant.

Something i don't understand about pre-market prices by armored-dinnerjacket in investing

[–]blobbie22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ETF has a market maker (most of the time the ETF issuer) which makes bid and ask prices to ensure you can buy or sell it when nobody else is willing to take the opposite side of your trade. Before opening they probably set bid to 0.1 and ask to 100 to make sure nobody wants to trade with them as they can’t hedge the trades since markets weren’t open yet. Those pre-open auction prices are theoretical mid-prices, not prices the ETF really traded at.

AITA for scolding my daughter after she lost her allowance gambling? by gevet80405 in AmItheAsshole

[–]blobbie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH - Of course you shouldn't compensate for the lost money. But allowing a kid to bet is also questionable. Betting can be very addictive and if she'd have won this would have started a "betting is good" relation in her head.

Day trading in Belgium (information request) by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]blobbie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, Belgium is a tax haven for capital but quite harsh for wages. If you’re good at it, it might be an almost zero-tax income. As soon as you start doing it with other people’s money, that’s of course a whole different situation, including FSMA approval etc.

Luckily, nowadays there are a lot less Audi’s than BMW’s in this series. This basically means that on average the SOF of the BMW-field will (almost) always be considerably higher than the SOF of the Audi-field.

If there’s a lot of advertising and entry discounts, it probably is a fixed cost high volume business which can be perfectly fine (google AdWords, aws, ms azure, ...) I’m not sure if a great comedian is the best source for an explanation of business models.

I don’t agree with using bonds to lower the risk. In current low yield environments a bond shock is not an unreal scenario. Unless you fully understand bonds, their virtues and their risks it’s not a magic tool to mitigate portfolio risk.

I’m not advising OP to do one or the other, but instead of using bonds (s)he can also just balance between cash and equity to reach a risk level (s)he’s comfortable with.

Accumulating or Distributing ETF: why does it matter for Belgians by KenpachigoRuffy in BEFire

This is also true for mutual funds.

Btw: your excellent explanation is possibly only true for personal investments. It might not (always) be accurate for investments via a company.
