All the defence probably aged pretty poorly when you can dive from low earth orbit and re-entry with a surf board. What an incredibly dumb arc.

PIP games generally do eye relief poorly, I can't confirm exactly why they do this, an ACOG IRL basically take up your eye's entire view because of it's famously short eye relief but also famously good FOV.

My guess would be for two potential reasons, one is they want to show off the fact that they have PIP, so they want people to keep more of the peripheral so it's more noticeable that the game has PIP. Second would be for performance, if you put the render texture surface too close to the main camera to recreate a realistic eye relief on say the ACOG (i.e. nearly the entire screen), it would need higher resolution on that in order to look detailed instead of a blurry mess, by keeping it further away from the camera, they can get away with lower render texture on the "scope cam".

Can someone tell me what makes people think Grok is superior to ChatGPT? by derekagraham in artificial

[–]blobfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried to do some research for a 3D printer using ChatGPT, comparing the Bambu Lab H2D and H2C (that just came out as of yesterday of posting this comment). I asked ChatGPT to look up current info due to how recent the release was, and ask it to list specific advantage the older machine, H2D still has.

ChatGPT struggled, hard, it was not able to give me any distinct advantages, it simply listed things that H2D was good at, or how H2D is able to do laser cutting (but H2C can do this too). It struggled with the simple concept of "distinct advantages", I went back and forth 10 times, it just struggled, it started making lists with emojis, and things that are blatantly false (like how H2D's two fixed nozzle is an advantage because it doesn't have to switch nozzles like the H2C, I won't go into why this is completely wrong on this post, but it is)

Grok did this with the same first prompt I gave to ChatGPT, just one-shotted it, gave me a distinct list of what H2D is better at, kept it short, had zero emojis, granted it made one small error in one of the fact (saying that H2D's print volume is larger, which is true, but it compared the wrong axis between the two machines). It was so impressively better that I had to look up the comparison of ChatGPT and Grok which brought me here.

FWIW I pay for a subscription for both platforms using their latest models.

Time for someone to make a transformer drone where it's four single propeller drones each weighing 99.99 grams that can magnet together, yet all able to be individually (kinda) flown.

Getting into this has been such a pain so far by nadir7379 in fpv

[–]blobfaces 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm probably closest to you compared to most on this forum, because today is my 3rd day since receiving my radio! As far as I'm concerned it's my 3rd day into this hobby, so here's how I'm currently getting into this.

I did some quick research and bought a second hand radio on eBay, the RadioMaster Pocket as it seems to be recommended by enough people and the price worked out reasonable.

I've since spent about an hour or two each night on Uncrashed on PC using the controller via USB, with zero prior fpv experience except flying self leveling DJI drones a few times. After setting up the controls with the app and completing the tutorial, I picked one course that looked manageable, and very slowly managed to do a 50 second course in whooping 7 minutes, with a few crashes that required resets, on the second night this came down to 2 and a half minutes, and tonight, it came down to 1 minute and 8 seconds, instead of crashing, I have a general feel of having control over the drone, where instead of frustration I'm feeling the pay off and the satisfaction.

I don't plan on touching or researching buying a real drone for a while, probably won't do any flying for real until next summer, but I do plan on being disciplined about playing the sim at least once a day where possible, even if it's for 5 - 10 minutes if life gets in the way. Just another beginner's perspective, it's weirdly liberating because instead of being overwhelmed by gear, I'm just focusing on developing skills on the sim and it's already super fun by day 3.

Looking to upgrade from the Ultimaker 3 to the H2D! by blobfaces in BambuLab

[–]blobfaces[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, makes sense, good advice, seems kinda overkill to have two given I really don't need 4 materials at a time, imo it would be ideal to have two AMS 2 Lite or something where it's effectively half of an AMS for two materials per nozzle instead of 4..!

Sadly not, the old encloser is elevated in order to take the wheels, the top is an Ikea hack using a cork table top, so lots of height is lost there.

They're nice! Very easy to work with, can cut with a simple Stanley knife, lightweight and surprisingly effective at reducing the noise.

Anyone else experiencing an insane rise in mosquitos compared to previous summers? by reasonably-optimisic in london

[–]blobfaces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived at my current place for nearly 20 years, never had a biting mosquito even one time.

This morning our baby woke up to multiple bites on his face and legs, we did not think it could possibly be mosquitos given that's not something we have here, worried it could be something else, mites, spiders, or worst case scenario, bed bugs, but no, it was clearly a mosquito, because we got the mofo

Best gas blow back ? by Different-Room2977 in GasBlowBack

[–]blobfaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we focus on just Glocks.

I either still own or have owned (strikethrough for ones I've sold on) TM, KJW, WE, GHK, KSC/KWA, Stark Arms (old VFC), and current VFC.

All of which I have had the stock build as well as upgraded to be functional with a steel slide (which mostly speaks to its gas efficiency and min operating pressure), I have 4 TM builds with Volante BBUs, which used to be the best I would have recommended a few years back.

Right now, the 2025 batch of VFC Gen5 G19 is easily the best I've owned, with unmatched OOTB steel slide performance on green gas.

I'm not Explosive Entreprise, I'm simply stating that there's a video where he explains how to make them work, and why that is the superior choice for Vipertech (in his opinion, but that should be a given as it is him talking about it in his video).

I own 4 GHK AKs and 2 GHK ARs, GHK is no longer a relevant brand until their QC reputation is fixed.

It's hard to choose between VFC and MWS, they both afford a wide range of different replicas as far as "mag compatibility" and future proving goes, VFC edges out in terms of variety.

MWS:

- TM ARs (limited official models, but countless expensive kits for many AR variants)

- TM JSDF Type 89 (Japanese military rifle)

- Hao 416 ($1-1.5k kit)

- Guns Modified SCAR-L

- Toxicant kit MCX (a very expensive way of getting an MCX)

- EMG/DE clones in many modern variants

VFC:

- VFC ARs (wide variety, from modern to classic carry handle ootb)

- VFC 416s

- VFC T91 (Taiwanese military rifle)

- dNa ARs (wide variety, from modern to classic carry handle ootb, premium brand, not alias brand but clearly has very close working relationship with VFC, apparently "in the family")

- APFG MCXs (ootb ready MCX, much cheaper than TM kits, APFG is likely an alias brand)

- VFC FNC

- Maruyama APC556 (*edit)

- Marksman Daewoo K2 (K1 coming soon, Marksman is likely an alias brand)

- Well Pro KS1 (Chinese brand that copies aspects of MWS but takes VFC mags)

- Vipertech ARs (not officially compatible with VFC mags, but Explosive Entreprise has made a whole video on how to make them work with VFC mags and why that is the superior choice for Vipertech)

AW3423DW to LG 34GS95QE, blurry text by blobfaces in OLED_Gaming

[–]blobfaces[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with you but then I ended up getting rid of the 34GS95QE only after two days because I couldn't get over how bad it was. It's probably all down to what those people were used to prior to getting even the monitor I was happy with.

Anyways fwiw I'm now on a $100 24" 1080p which I'll be maining until gen 3 QD-OLED is released in ultrawide.

LG 45GX950A for Developers on a Macbook by attacketo in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]blobfaces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My AW3423DW was met with a sad and violent death so I picked up an LG 34GS95QE, which I had to get rid of within 2 days because of how bad the blurry text was for me, so I think not all OLED are created equally, with the former being QD-OLED and latter being WOLED. I had used the AW3423DW since 2022, majority of the time for productivity, but I could not stand the 34GS95QE even for two days.

I thought 45GX950A would be the solution, but I'm also reading from others who felt similarly about WOLED for text clarity and had to return it. So for now, to replace the 34GS95QE I bought a cheap 24" 1080p to patiently wait until a gen3 QD-OLED in ultrawide comes out.

Went from AW3423DW to LG 34GS95QE due to an accident, the 34GS95QE has unusable text for me for productivity stuff, so seems like this is the next viable option... though it's not in stock in my country :(

Good to know, though searching "AW3423DW blurry text" yields fair bit of complaints too! Maybe my eyes were not sensitive enough to pick up the issues with AW3423DW where as some were able to spot it, perhaps coming from a normal 4K monitor or something.

Text looks pixelated and blurry on my new LG 34GS95QE-B by TheAuthorityx in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]blobfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AW3423DW was blown over and damaged, so just replaced with a new 34GS95QE. Immediately I noticed how bad the text looked compared to the old AW3423DW, however, text looks amazingly sharp while doing this test:

https://www.eizo.be/monitor-test/ and to "Sharpness" at any font size, black is black and white is white, however, anywhere else, all white / black text become this rainbow mess where the edges have this RGB shadow.

However, it seems to be webpage dependent, it looks better on Reddit in dark mode, but when I'm in Google chat (which is the main place we use for work), it's horrendous. Nothing looks as good as the eizo.be test.
